While the world was battling with COVID and other countries were churning out the same old dramas, we have Japan who chose to innovate and tell stories about the pandemic (Remolove, Trouble of the Blue Vampire) , or make use of 'social distancing' to tell simple stories involving few characters that were filmed in 1 location (Living, and case in point, this drama) and countless others..
For a 2 episode drama, this was pretty interesting. I was invested in the ML's character, and his relationships with his wife, the junior colleague and all the women. This should have been a 6-8 episode drama because it had an interesting premise, and an interesting ML.
I'd say watch it if you're looking for something short to kill time, but don't expect a fully developed story.
This deserved concise story-telling to make the impact, and that could have been achieved in a good 10 -12 episodes. There was little that happened for a good 3/4 of the drama, with the political discussions centering around the same dialogue each time, and because they dragged that I couldn't feel the tension and conflict between the neighbouring kingdoms. At least there were no evil or loud characters that you'd see in a typical lakorn. The best thing about this, though, were the leads, and the ML's friends cum guards. They were the only interesting characters in the show, and all 4 of them acted their parts well. The leads gave me a very fairytale-ish / Beauty and the Beast vibe and watching the ML fall in love with the FL and attempt to court her was lovely. They definitely kept me invested throughout and I wish the ending wasn't so underwhelming.
the synopsis sounds very sad but the reviews are very positive. Can someone tell me if this drama is too sad?…
It has heartwarming moments that may make you cry, but the overall message I have taken away from 10 episodes so far is of hope, strength and resilience. It's a very positive, inspiring and heartwarming show for me. I'd say give it 1 episode and see if it is for you.
Do you remember where you watched it? I can't seem to find E10 anywhere :(
Seems like there was a development between the leads in E10 which I missed... sigh. Anyway I like the leads a lot so I'll complete it. Thank you for your help :)
I thought episode 10 was the last and I binged the whole thing and now I have no idea how I am going to wait 1…
I couldn't agree more! That's the very reason I adore J dramas so so much. It makes me so happy to see more people appreciate J dramas and realise their greatness, and that Japan makes more than just shoujo manga adaptations.
Miyabi is such a soft, gentle and kind person who does her best each day despite the darkness she lives in, and…
Of course, I do! Probably my 2nd favourite drama after Unmet this year. It's called 'Owakare Hospital', starring Matsuyama Kenichi and Kishii Yukino. Highly highly recommend it! https://kisskh.at/759103-owakare-hospital

That's true. This drama definitely got me thinking about how important a role the past and our memories play in our daily lives. It is a reminder of who we are, and is also a huge part of our identity. I can't even imagine what it's like to live like Miyabi.. to start over every single day. Like you have no idea who's telling you the truth, who is hiding things from you.. there are important people / memories you don't know of and can't remember. That is really really sad. But there is one silver lining which Miyabi herself pointed out when she went to the museum; it allows her to live in the present and focus on what she is feeling now. Not the past, not the future, but now. And I think that sometimes we're just factoring in too many things that are not important today and confusing ourselves. At least I do. So one of the biggest takeaway from this drama for me is to cherish the past, but focus on the present. Because this is the time that once gone, will never ever come back. If you can live today to the fullest, then even if you don't have the ultimate plan for the future, it will all work out.
Sorry that was too long! I got carried away. Clearly.
RE: the ending - I have seriously no idea how this is going to end. I am not hoping or projecting any kind of ending because I trust that this writer knows best. Whether happy or sad, it's the message that I look out for. And in these 10 episodes, the message of hope, resilience and strength has been pretty clear for me.
