oh i see, in my country we used to watch dubbed anime as morning show, they broadcasted it on local channel so it was easy to access, we used to have japan variety show like tv champion and takeshi's castle too and that was on local channel as well, but as tv is not as popular as back then we need online platform like WeTV, iqiyi, and gmmtv in japan version now :(

it would be great if j-drama reach more audience... but i dont see japan opening this gatekeeping anytime soon, even after some of their famous actor talking about this exact concern before

it is totally their loss :( it is a shame because japan was leading drama land in 2000s. currently it is still hard to access their drama legally that now neighbor countries like korea, philippine, thailand, and china are surpassing them.

i doubt they dont know how though. for anime, a lot of their popular series in 2000's have official dubbing across asia and we just need to have television to watch those amazing animes.. but it is not the case for dorama and their music industry.. if they don't want to make a contract with western streaming sites, they should have made their own streaming platform for japanese released and provide the eng sub themself. just copy how china has Tencent Video and they make sub company named WeTV for international market or how thai has gmmtv :/

i dont know where you come from, but talking about you are catholic christian. christianity, chatolic, it is considered a "new" religion here in my area ( in my case south east asia ) and also east asia as we are talking about kdrama scenes ( south korea, japan, etc ) ,

that is why it is still common thing practicing our ancestor belief to preserve our tradition and culture. east asia mainly have buddhist background, but you will be more shocked learning south east asia culture, because we have tons of traditional belief beside the popular one ( hindu, buddhist, islam, christianity, etc ) but it is all still connected to one other way 😂
