While it’s clear there’s a disclaimer stating that the drama doesn’t accurately reflect a specific dynasty, we can still infer that it’s set during the MING dynasty. However, it’s unfortunate that the ML Mom’s death from necrosis wasn’t handled realistically. In that era, the treatment methods of YANGYI, a form of surgical external medicine, should have been employed. Ultimately, they would have used Chemical and mixtures to eat away the dying flesh, revealing the healthy flesh underneath; followed by softer topical treatments and or medicated silk threads pierced and drug through the affected areas. This drama emphasizes the Lin family’s knowledge and education, so it’s surprising that her mom didn’t seek the best treatment or at least consult someone. In other dramas, when such situations arise, physicians typically create topical pastes to treat the condition. Unfortunately, when the ML Mom consulted the imperial physician, it was too late because the necrosis had spread to her abdomen. It would have been great to include the information regarding necrosis being the biggest threat during the Chinese middle ages ( spanning from 1368 to 1644CE).... in the drama to showcase the well-resourced nature of the Lin family during that time. The middle ages in China would have dealt with a similar situation, and there are numerous techniques available. A quick Google search revealed a timeline of treatments that should have been used even from the Tang, Song, and Yuan dynasties if the writing team didn't really care about adding specific dynasty information.. I’m disappointed that this wasn’t included in the drama. Although it’s not a heavy medical drama, I expected more attention to detail, especially since the characters are well-versed in medical matters. Also, it's unfortunate that the rest of the family have been married off and are likely preoccupied with their own affairs. I wondered why they didn’t notice her seclusion or pale complexion. I thought her maid would've have accidentally mentioned it to the FL maid team, but that didn’t happen. Even when the physician suggested amputation, I was surprised because it would have been considered the last option since the body was heavily believed to be a gift from the great heavens.... and amputation would've been seen as a sin.

So, I haven’t finished the drama yet, but it’s always jarring when the female lead constantly attacks the male lead head and blasts their moral differences. I feel like the writers haven’t even portrayed ML in a negative light, it never connects to me why FL feels compelled to constantly criticize ML, even if he’s the General of the left side of the army. I don’t think that equates to him being the evil lion who terrorizes people .He’s always shown trying to rectify mistakes that may have been overlooked by his peers, just like the other people on the right side who try to rebel with Prince Han. So, I don’t understand why she’s always trying to tell him about himself or give him criticism, even if she thinks he’s in a position to be sacrificed for his power while not reaping the benefits..( because maybe his grandfather is benefiting instead of him).

Many of these guys born into nobility can only do so much without offending their superiors, or should I say their grandfathers superiors.. The way she wants him to act is the reason why her family ended up getting slaughtered. I wonder if she realized she liked him before sprouting her Daoism...lol.. Honestly, I sometimes struggle to understand her character. She doesn’t actively interfere in palace affairs or similar matters. Instead, she has a strong sense of justice, but her portrayal often falls short of conveying her genuine concern for justice..... I think this is what we should've seen more of especially with her contributions towards the military, and just seeing the collective actions that she can do, but then again this is also not legend of the female general.... and I'm not even gonna lie. I was expecting her to fight....hhhhhhh, especially when it comes to opposing those who were truly responsible for massacring her entire family.... honestly it would've been crazy if her main MO was trying to get as close to the emperor to kill his ass, but I don't think he was the person who got her family killed back then... so sometimes I don't really get her persistent hostility regarding "the ways" of the palace...

Ultimately, her attitude and her father’s attitude regarding righteousness led to the Shens' demise because they couldn’t remain silent when necessary. I’m not suggesting that silence is always the answer, but it’s a difficult choice when you know that defying authority will result in the deaths of those you care about. Alternatively, you could choose to retire from court service instead of risking your life or contributing to a faction or ruler you don’t align with. Another point I’ve noticed on RedNote is that the English translation may not fully capture the nuances of the original Chinese adaptation of the drama. If I’m falling short in my explanation, please forgive me. This is just my interpretation of episode 39.

The main story is slowly coming together...I can't wait to see the whole fam flourish because all of them have such a low confidence level to the point of discomfort....Great script writing in that aspect but when are they going to be okay? The amount of access the rich characters have to supportive resources yet choose not to seek counseling ... Also I thought when the mom abandoned the children she could've sent "care packages" or even some money but she really dropped her family to be a caretaker and a cook...look how her prized new daughter dashed her to the side...lmfaoo crazy..does she even have a savings account? I was completely astounded by the exceptional camera quality. Initially, I was bewildered when I noticed the lighting. I had assumed that these long dramas would have a high production quality, but I guess not. It’s intriguing because I was engaged in a discussion with other users about Netflix’s handling of recent Korean dramas. I often feel that those dramas were quite high-quality productions, even though they’re quite short.

I also find the way these dramas are curated to be interesting. The writing is generally good, and this particular one is particularly intriguing. I’m genuinely curious to see how the story progresses. The writing is a bit choppy, but that’s okay. The clichés hasn't appeared no memory losses yet.haha

The age jump the time jump, definitely parallels with the Korean dating scene with the millennials.. however why set the stage with the clashing between the FL and her sister about her role on being "a worker" versus "getting what she wants" if it won't contribute to the FL character development?

I was really hoping to see more momentum challenging the idea of people were born into certain roles and it seems like it just fizzled out or the FL just accepted her life. I guess? that's disappointing. I never agree when screenwriter introduce a very needed moral take for a character and they just abandon it. I never understand that.

Could this be a very Korean way of thinking ? maybe? It doesn't seem like the FL character is created to defy social norms or expectations. I guess they really created her with the idea of following everything to the tea but being OK with having a child out of wedlock.?
And then an episode three with the father, losing the house to gangsters and FL just agreeing to just move?? it didn't make sense that they just accepted the Dad back?? an episode four seems like the middle brother never finish school and he's just lackadaisical, so I guess she never followed up with the fight against the rich people at the school??

I know the focus is gonna be on reuniting the ML and the FL and their son ...but is this the best way they could've put backstory/pretext together? I think it was poorly done.... :- (

This is my first Korean soap.. storyline seems interesting but I can't help to notice that maybe the lighting designer wasn't around when they filmed indoor scenes for the main leads houses... the lighting is so bright and harsh and it's crazy because you can see the accent lighting on the wall, but you just see this huge hospital like lighting and it's so distracting lol

I'm currently binge-ing this....OH my God, the ML he just knows how to play his role, which is the dumbfounded, slow witted, drug induced, lofty, kind of guy... even down to the way he puckers his crusty lips. what a great job ...his character frustrates me, but there's some guys who's really the embodiment of this persona... esp in college... I'm talking about self preservation skills on 2%...

You know this show really highlights poor mental health and the lack of resources a plethora of characters had... this is why well funded and accessible social resources and safety nets are basic necessities for every country.
