am I the only one that finds the character Jung Woo quite lame? The actor is handsome and I´ve seen him play better roles. But this one is just so meh. I just don´t get it. what´s so attractive about his personality that most people on the comment section are so drawn to him? If I didn´t know any better, I would think that Sun Ho is the ML at least it seems like there is more to him in comparison to JW. Whether you´re rooting for SH or not at least you must have to admit that his character is way more interesting than the ML. He likes the FL from the beginning, helps her and her family out, but also keeps a safe distance, plus not to mention that there´s lots of friction and conflicts that if they want to be a couple they must overcome. It does sound like the main couple of a kdrama, doesn´t it?
HY was sorting out her feelings for JW, but SH confessed and he liked her, so she's going crazy because Jung-woo…
@yibbeunni. I really hope you 're wrong. To me SH is a much better character. He was introducced first and his backstory, their mothers hating each other adds to the drama, making it more interesting. In terms of JW he has had it easy from the get go. HY liked him and and he did also. The only thing standing in the way was himself. Something that i never understood or found appealing. So yeah i'm on SH 's team. It makes more sense
You're missing out. It is quite interesting. One of the best dramas currently airing
Maybe this is just not for you! If you watched all the way to episode 4 and you're still not hooked then it is not for you. Better off watching something else. I actually enjoyed the swaping identities dynamics and the gray characters, but i can understand how it might be confussing or frustrating for some people.
do they handle different types of cases every episode? or just one case the whole series?
It's more complicated than that. If i had to describe it i guess, this drama is about two very damaged individuals and their journey to recovery. In my opinion very powerful and brave take on it.
Seo In Guk is simply fantastic! He is more than just eye candy. He can do no wrong. Gorgeous face and killer acting skills. He is perhaps the most charming leading man in the kdrama world. His charm is so effortless.
Just finished the final episode and all i can say IS WOW what a ride that was. Loved, LOVED IT all through and through. Such a special drama, of course not for everyone since it depicts very flawed people. But for me, just about right, i give it a 10. Excellent writing, great directing and a superb cast. 👏👏👏👏👏👏🌻
I first watched this drama about a year ago and i remember thinking that it was too silly for my taste... What kept me going? Yeah, you 've guessed it, the beautiful eye candy AKA Seo In Guk. So i was bored and i decided to watch it again and I finally got it. This is a wonderful drama. The leads, yes the are silly, but so endeering and great. The story and the all the characters are fantastic. Yes everything is so over the top, but it works! This has become one of my favorite dramas to rewatch
I love both leads; Victoria Song was phenomenal in Find Yourself, one of my all time favorite cdramas. Timmy Xu was mesmerizing in Addicted Heroine, another wonderful cdrama. All i can say about Almost Lover after episode 6 is that the story and the chemistry is underwhelming... The whole thing lacks charm, it all feels too bland for my taste not very interesting so far....
It is undeniable that the main leads are Deok Sun and Sun Woo even though their stories weren´t linked romantically. Their parallel stories move the whole plot forward.
I believe that Choi Taek was supposed to be the ML(FL's love interest) from the start and Ryu Joon Yeol was always meant to play the pitiful one dimensional second male lead (SML), that´s why his character is missing in the last two episodes. In those final episodes we were supposed to root for the Main couple: Deok Sun and Choi Taek. I don´t think that the writers foresaw what a tremendous actor Ryu Joon Yeol is, so his story arc ended abruptly because the SML character was never meant to be important. They obviously got it wrong. We needed a better and more satisfying closure for him. Therefore, we were left with a bittersweet end unlike the previous “Replies”.
So why the heartache?
Here´s my analysis: The casting of main and supporting characters was superb, maybe too perfect! The chemistry of the whole ensemble was uncanny unlike its predecessor R1997 and R1994, where the leads were great, but some of the supporting characters fell short. I don´t think that the director/writer foresaw what Ryu Joon Yeol was capable of achieving with a one dimensional/filler character. As we all know that the role of a SML is often used as a device to provoke and strengthen the Main pair relationship, but in this case that assumption went to shit when new comer Ryu Joon Yeol gave so much depth to that character. He not only stole the spotlight, but our hearts as well.
Perhaps that´s why this Reply feels more like friendship and family driven drama and not a romantic one. The chemistry between Lee Hye Ri and Park Bo Gum was good, but when Ryu came on screen no one stood a chance. His only rival was himself and that became evident from the beginning. Jung Hwan didn´t need to have a line to make the FL´s and our hearts flutter.
I think that the producers decided not to show the progression of Deok Sun and Choi Taek´s love affair because their chemistry as a couple wasn´t as strong, and it felt more like sibling kind of love and that´s a bit off putting. So they omitted it in the end and left us to imagine what that was like. In my opinion, Choi Taek in current time and in 1988 was a bit bland. So it felt like our spunky FL settled for whoever told her that they liked her, like it could´ve been anyone basically. Not very romantic....
That´s why even to this day people ask themselves who the ML in this series really was? So I strongly believethat it was initially meant to be Park Bo Gum, but that damn charismatic and sexy Ryu came along and confussed the shit out of everyone ;)
Don't drop the ratings. Complete the show first. It's better than any show airing now.
Totally agree! Regardless of ratings this is by far way superior to any show currently airing. Falling Into You started out good and just went to shit; Love In Contract is very stupid with inmature writing and charmless cast; Law Cafe IS totally bland.... and the list goes on....
