The whole "Luke, I am your father" shit is a bit too heavy handed. Can we go back to the day when we didn't spoon feed audiences information? It really takes a lot of pleasure out of the viewing experience.

I think they're getting a bit of a pass rn bc of the fact that he's the commander of the imperial army and also…
I would say that even 1% of the longing gazes being public is 1% too much, and having him recover from his wounds in the inner palace is political suicide. They even had the maid tell less political savvy viewers that people were gossiping about how inappropriate it was. We keep being told she's smart, but she blew that off because she wants the d. Not very smart. I'm all for great chemistry etc, but if we are repeatedly being told that someone is smart, I'd like to see her acting smart. The plot pretending that she wouldn't have been removed from her shaky political position due to accusations of sluttiness is kind of absurd. We could have had just as much chemistry if she was doing everything in private.

At this point it seems entirely plot armour, because no way back in the day would a woman get away with she and the captain lustily staring at each other. Her father is also politically vulnerable, and the emperor cannot excuse just any behavior that he wants to, because that also undermines his own power. I'm all for some lusty gazes, but for a woman who is supposedly very smart, it would be more sensible to hide said gazes. He's also not politically powerful, so any hint of an affair puts them both at risk of being accused of adultery and gross moral conduct.

I'm only half way through ep 8, so there may be info that I am missing, but for a woman who vowed to never marry or have children, and is politically vulmerable, all the intense staring and time alone together with her hot captain seems a bit silly. By all means she can discreetly take a lover when her political base is more established, and by all means she can sexually manipulate him now to her advantage discreetly, but in an age where she should not even be in court, giving every minister the ammunition to brand her a harlot and morally bankrupt because she appears to be an unmarried woman having an affair, seems more than a bit silly?

I feel like the reminder that "THEY ARE NOT R-E-L-A-T-E-D!" has to be said at least three times every…
Haha. Indeed. It's difficult to imagine chinese censors reviewing a modern drama and saying "Incest? No problem" and giving t their stamp of approval 🤣

What is the purpose of this not-even-news? People get tax debts all the time, particularly wealthier people with more complicated investment portfolios. They all have accountants who have arguments about the relevamt application of law with the taxation authority, and sometimes the accountants win, sometimes they don't.

I cried all the way through episode 18. It was so warm and beautiful, and I watched it after my best friend called me at 1am to let me know that her mother (who I call Mum) had died. Cherish your time my people, and may you all find beauty in the small moments that make up our lives ❤️

If you're called a bitch, it's based on someone's opinion of your behaviour. If you're called a hater, it's based on someone's opinion of your behaviour. If you're calling someone a hypocrite when you yourself do the same thing, you are criticising your own behaviour. Be a little more adult, and a little more self aware. Pat yourself on the back a bit less, and spend more time thinking about the fact that you don't like in other people what you yourself are guilty of

You're calling someone a hater and a hypocrite, both of which are derogatory terms, so I think you might be a little confused

The opening OST is written by a genius !
And the animation to go with it is superb. The two put together just create brilliant art.

I think I might be a fast reader, because for me subtitles were not fast at all 😅 But for the first time in…
Agree, I won't think they were any faster than any other political drama (I specify political, because I do find the dialogue tends to be a little faster in those dramas)

Wow, episode 1 was an absolute rip snorter. Opening credits are absolutely amazing (gives me The Bad Kids vibes) and everyone is right about the song for the closing credits. Chinese dramas are truly outstanding when done at their best. Nice to see FSF back. I hope we get at least one of his spectacular smiles
