Prince Changxin is from the same kingdom, he’s the son of the late emperor’s sister. So basically a nephew of the late emperor. Prince Changxin has two sons Sui Yuanhuai and Sui Yuanqing

As to why the maid instead of consort Qi, my guess is that at that time the late emperor was still trying to win her over so he wanted to show her that Wei Yan did improper deed but when the last emperor did not succeed he succumbed to the last method which to male them all suffer.

These are just my guess, those who have read the novel might help clarify better or have more insight.

I think the late emperor probably either learning about the relationship betweenWei Yan and Consort Qi or learning about what Wei Yan said about deposing the emperor.
So the emperor just wanna sabotage their relationship or take down Wei Yan by drugging him trying to get him executed (if you remember when the same situation happened to Xie Zheng, Wei Yan also said to the current emperor that this is the same dirty trick the royal family did).
But turned out that still wasn’t
enough to take down Wei Yan hence the prince Changxin situation happened after and the late emperor got deposed instead.

I wish the plot and the pacing was done better. Consider all the aspects this was almost perfect.

The cinematography was flawless, the acting is on point in many scenes, the consistency of the 'historical' aspect (fake dynasty but heavily based on Song dynasty artistic style).

I felt like too much was packed in ep.40 that I needed more than just 50 mins to take it in. And the arc after Lin'an was dragging for a bit too much for not a very solid development.

some potential that could be used to make the storyline more rounded and full circle like FL's hairpin, FL's knife or the ML's bird....was all abandoned. No story about FL's parents' background.

Overall I enjoy this director's work since Blossom but this could have been much better for its potential. I still enjoyed Zhuyu I just wish, really wish it was perfect.

I agree with you! I sympathized with WY though he wronged FL's family but the real culprit is the late emperor.

Moreover, I felt like the Li family especially the grand tutor got away too easily for his crime. I mean I could understand that the director might wanna give Li Huai'an a leeway but then to me the result of everything lost its weight and felt less convincing.

The blood sucking together with the embracing scene looks even more romantic (and erotic) than kissing or warming the bed scene.

ep4 when the FL pinched him and he screamed 'uhh' which sounds similar to è (饿) = hungry in Chinese got me laughing so hard 🤣🤣🤣 that was genius
