Woojung is the worst. Like I am taking a break from ep 8 because she's a big dumb dumb.
So there's a time sensitive audition show and you decide to take it upon yourself to watch a stranger die. The judges should've disqualified her because how are you going to be late to a live broadcast?
The scene where Woojung confronts Hwakyung after the competition makes my blood boil. Woojung is manipulative af, talking in graphic detail and giving hwakyung a play by play of her father's death. I would've slapped the shit out of her after she said "when his hand dropped". Her father is dead and thank God, his character was annoying and super pathetic to watch....
I can't wait for Hwakyung to destroy her
Btw: So far my biggest complaint is how much screentime Woocheol and the other side characters have. I think that's why I dropped this previously because I got tired of basically skipping half of an episode.
No one cares about Woocheol and his clarinet. I surely don't.
I need to make myself like Young-Chae because I find her so annoying π I feel like she hasn't developed AT…
omg. I have physical copies of all the books and I've read them so much the covers are falling off. I actually like the books better than the show, but the show is good too like Season 3 to the first half of 4 was peak television π
But back to a graceful liar...
I think Youngchae is planting the seeds of what she can do... whatever she has planned probably won't happen until the design team starts working
A redemption would feel so fake. Like jeongwon is not the type... I know it's really too early to tell, but I feel like this will end with jeongwon dying due to her Ripley syndome and hyera living in regret.
Jeongwon is literally playing mind games with Hyera, shes not going to stop with one simple apology.
I will say I liked it when Younchae was trying to convince haneul to get messy and join in on the drama lol because I was low-key hoping for the same thing. Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!
I'm honestly surprised at the pacing of this. I didn't think people would start connecting jeongwon = sua until like, episode 60 or something... Nansuk is cooking something up... but what
I am 1000% riding with Nansuk and Jeongwon into the firey pit because it's so entertaining to see how far they are willing to go for their desires. (But at the same time I actually like Youngchae now that she's fighting back lol) This is a story of wretched excess and how some people will stomp over familial ties to do so. I don't think this drama will have a happy ending. I actually don't want it to. Everyone will probably end up ruined by their greed - I love how this drama is turning all the daily drama tropes on their head ie:
We all know dailies are going to usually center around a chaebol company and a graceful liar is no different. However I like how the team came together. I liked how it was spun as Semi proposing a team. It's not going to be 3 minor characters who support the FL and serve as comedic relief. It's going to be the FL, her enemy, and their allies. This is way more interesting and I like how Semi (who is actually relevant to the plot) will be their boss... who will eventually get engaged to the FLs lover....
I also like Ahn Jina lol... For those of us who watched gold mask I'm glad that her actress is speaking in her natural tone in this roleπ
This feels so messy and I'm enjoying every second of it.... it reminds me of a daily drama with the tone/aesthetic of gossip girl which is like my favorite series ever. That may be why I'm enjoying this so much
I had posted some info in the comment section of TWWSTS but since this has its own page now I'll paraphrase the…
First Man Writer: Seo Hyunjoo (Second Husband, Third Marriage, Pink Lipstick)
Actors and characters:
Ham Eunjung in a dual role. Oh Jang Mi and Ma Seorin. They are twins. Birth secret incoming. Oh Jang Mi is your standard down trodded lead with a bright personality. She is good at cooking and works lots of part time jobs to make her dream come true. (You know the type)
Ma Seorin is the reckless daughter of a chaebol* family (I'm looking forward to seeing Eunjung in this role tbh as she's described as a troublemaker who has nothing to fear. I also hope this sister is the FL/the one getting revenge but I'm not holding my breath lol)
*It hasn't been said but I wouldn't be surprised if her family was the one that owned Dream Group
Chae Hwayoung (Oh Hyunkyung) - "evil incarnate" a former top star who wants to acquire Dream Group [this drama's corporate setting] most likely... definitely an antagonist. She seems to be the main villain/final boss type of character
Male leads are named Kang Baekho (Park Seonwoo) and Kang Junho (Park Geon-il). They are brothers. Baekho is described as warm and popular. He has feelings for Jangmi. He's a lawyer with a strong sense of justice. Junho is a "cold city man" who doesn't believe in love until he meets Jangmi. He is a chef... I hope you guys like love triangles. Btw: Baekho is the older of the two!
Hong Jinjoo (Kim Minseol) another antagonist who "hates losing". She is an ambitious low level employee at dream group. She is not a fan of the fact that Baekho has feelings for Jangmi because she is trying and failing to win his heart. I see her and Hwayoung teaming up as our villains. Her character description explicitly says she will cause trouble for Jangmi...
Oh Taepyeong is going to be played by Lee Kichang and his goal is to become a singer. He views his dream positively even tho he's been scammed. I'm not sure if he's a main character but I find it amusing how often Seo Hyunjoo incorporates (usually, trot) singers into her plots... Jaemin was a trot singer at the beginning of the second husband and there was a trot singer that had a significant cameo in The Third Marriage. In Pink Lipstick the ML was a guitarist on the side in the beginning...
It also seems that Jangmi, Baekho, Jinjoo and Junho are all linked to each other due to this love square. I'm curious to see Seorin's role in all of this tbh. Just a few more weeks to go...
LOL, apparently one does not need any acting skills or passion for acting to become an actor, kdrama logic if…
Yes this is true to real life. There have been a fair amount of stories of casting directors "street casting" idols and actors based on their visuals! They usually then get invited to audition to get in and train for a bit...
Although these days instead of street casting, which was more common in the 90s and 2000s, social media scouting is also common these days (where they will scout you via DM)
Kim Yoojung as Ahjin is absolutely bone chilling (the scene where she calls 119 at the end of ep3???) . I haven't been gripped by a currently airing drama like this since SKY Castle.
Worth the wait so far, seconding the commenter below me and hoping they don't redeem BAJ lol (haven't had a chance to read the webtoon yet and I probably won't until this is done airing)
Sorry to be mean, but I agree. Woo-jung's actress sucks. Idk why people kept calling her the FL, it's clearly…
Myungjoon is a piece of work in his own right but he was speaking straight facts when he called the bio dad out. The way Woojung and her mom completely glaze over that fact that the bio dad is a selfish pos really pmo so I'm riding with Hwakyung to the end π€·πΎββοΈ I also want to see Woojung suffer as you can see I am reacting very strongly to how self-righteous she is....
Its funny for all the complaints this drama gets, Oh Seungah made out like a bandit iirc this was her breakout role she won an award for Hwakyung. The gap in charisma between her and Seo Haewon is so jarring! Like if Woojung was the lead this show would be unwatchable lol
Decided to circle back around to this because Dear X & A Graceful Liar got me appreciating female villain leads. Not only that but this has the same writer as AGL and Game of Witches. AGL is good so far and GoW is probably my favorite daily of all time. So I got curious...
Thoughts so far:
The way Woojung and her mom go about reuniting Hwakyung with her bio dad... I'd turn against them too. Like let's not act like he gave her up for noble reasons - he was an alcoholic who abandoned her. Why would she want to meet him after 20 years? You're going to broadcast your "best friend's" trauma so your mom can get views? it's wild because at NO point did they even ask Hwakyuung to be a part of this. Woojung TOLD her. My thing is ... how can Woojung act like she's a good person when she didn't even ask Hwakyung how she felt about any of this? Just guilt trips and manipulation because Woojung is projecting her want for a father onto Hwakyung. I know it sounds crazy but orphaned children have the right to not want to meet their bio parents lol. Myungjoon was 10,000% right when he called out the bio dad for being selfish. This may be controversial but I'm glad it didn't work out for Joowon and Woojung and their broadcast flopped. Hwakyung's bio dad also got what he deserved!
I'm also glad Hwakyung is the main character because sorry to the actress playing Woojung but she has no presence (her namuwiki entry says it all π) this is probably why this was her last role... 7 years ago... whereas I've seen other cast members in more recent roles. Oh Seungah is always great as a villain.... And I'll always love the evil fake daughter trope.
The MLs family and Woocheol (so pretty mucuh 95% of the gag scenes) annoy me and actually take me out the drama at times (because the story is pretty intense) so I fast forward through all their scenes.
It's also funny seeing No Jeonmin and Oh Seungah playing cat and mouse with each other after seeing them in The Third Marriage lol
The ratings tanked so bad because of all the cancellations and delays! It sucks cuz I genuinely like this drama.…
Just checked namuwiki and this drama won't end until March 6th... which means by the time the winter olympics happen, we'll most likely be in the climax of the drama. the cancellations are really going to hurt the rating of the drama then π
This might be a cultural differences thing but per Namuwiki, Jeongwon is the same age as me (1994). Not sure what…
The DNA tests have been BROUGHT OUT!!! Let's go! Jeongwon's revenge incarnate era starts NOW!!
Youngchae and Anna are going to be a fun partnership, I can feel it. Manager Gu backstabbing Nansuk was something I didn't see coming but he's cooked lmao. She figured him out pretty quickly π
I liked Jeongwon's wedding dress as well! Tomorrow's episode looks promising π
This might be a cultural differences thing but per Namuwiki, Jeongwon is the same age as me (1994). Not sure what Kibeom is smoking but 30/31 is definitely old enough for a child to ask about their mother and receive an honest answer. Grow up and be honest with your daughter... It is totally fair for a child to be curious about their (absent) biological parent(s). They deserve to know the truth...
What's even more mind boggling to me is that Jeongwon was completely calm in that scene. It's not like she was hysterical or hurt or anything. She was all business... which is why I love her as a FL lmao
Came across this drama, read the plot, thought "I wonder if Tia seen this, it sounds like something she would…
I got about 85% through episode 1... I like Dahae. (Doesn't help that Soo-ae is gorgeous lol)
My stomach did drop when I saw what Dahae went through with her father and step father but I am welcoming her and her ambition with open arms. πI'm excited to see how she ends up becoming the First Lady.
The way the drama opened hooked me ... (with the gunshot) I'll look into Artificial City
It's also nice seeing Lee Ilhwa here lol that's mother
what a way to end an episode!!! I was not expecting the reveal to go like that. Either way, looks like EVERYTHING is happening next episode (hopefully there's no more cancellations? π) Youngchae linking up with Anna is going to be interesting. Anna folded very quickly when Jeongwon as Youngchae called her out. Maybe learning the truth will empower her a bit...
Just like I predicted in my last comment, Nansuk vs Kibeom was my personal highlight of the episode. Nansuk gathered the hell out of him and left no crumbs. Am also glad that he did not die by getting hit by a KIA... I was so glad when jeongwon pulled him back lol. I still think he's going to do get killed though... Maybe by episode 40. Speaking of which, I think the most annoying thing about this subplot of Kibeom trying to stop Jeongwon is the insistence that someone put her up to it lol it's like Nansuk said, "you don't know your daughter"
So there's a time sensitive audition show and you decide to take it upon yourself to watch a stranger die. The judges should've disqualified her because how are you going to be late to a live broadcast?

i agree with you about Cinderella Game's pacing... There's still about 65 or so episodes left so I hope the writer for AGL doesn't go TOO fast
But back to a graceful liar...
I think Youngchae is planting the seeds of what she can do... whatever she has planned probably won't happen until the design team starts working

Of course Nansuk is villain of the year lol.
