It is perhaps because, almost all Thailand's BL series involves student characters. Me, myself is actually getting tired of it. That is why, as of the moment, what I like the most in terms of Thai BL is "Ingredients". And can't wait for "A Tale of Thousand Stars". And the reason why I am watching "The Shipper", I will give you two: Ohm and First.
Comparing his cover of this song, it is pack with more emotion. Unlike "Someone You Loved" where you approached it with technically "clean", pleasant to the ears. Meanwhile, this cover is definitely hits the heart. You can feel his emotion being transferred to you.
Between his covers of "Someone You Loved" and "Lay Me Down" it will boil down to preference. A choice between a controlled perfectly executed song or the raw emotional one. Either way, his performance is impeccable.
I don't think they are blood related. Khet saying they are distant relative, their convo in hospital, and their…
Just like HIStory: Stay Away From Me, but story-wise, it is nearer to My Bromance the movie. The taller Fluke, Golf, and assumed to be older... Like Kim is distant from Khet. Like Golf to Bank at first.
Man! He could hit those high notes, falsetto and runs! Have the looks and definitely can act. Can play the guitar. Another Thai actor that is a multi-talented. I'll go crazy if he can dance well! If he can, what a sad world! Why somebody can be so multi-talented while others have only have one or two.
My bias Ohm... First grew on me in "Blacklist" and in the said series, I felt indifferent with Prigkhing. Now, she is growing on me. I couldn't care less if this is het or BL, I am here for the journey of the story and doesn't matter who ends up with whom.
This series is bad not because of the lack of skinships and erotic scenes which are not a used-to-thing to thai…
I wont be surprise if 2G and TTtS are the only Thai BL you've seen so far...
Try to watch MIR 1&2, LS 1&2, TWM/TWM-TNC, SOTUS/SOTUS S, LBC, there's 2 Club Friday series, UWMA. HCTM, ToL, DBK and two of those will have a sequel and both are already doing workshops. There's this dark BL series too entitled "The Effect". And that's only for Thai BL. There's this iconic Taiwanese BL series that so far have 7 distinct story. There's also this iconic Chinese drama that people still asking for a sequel. SoKor BL movie often tends to have a sad/heartbreaking ending and a highly anticipated full BL series. Japan has 2 rom-com BL series, a number of movies. And among the 4 countries, Japan is the naughtiest.
And subsequent comments lacks depth and critical thinking. Rehashed or recycled ones that have been address in my original thread. You even use "blah blah blah" that shows that you can not have a logical argument.
At the end of the day, i still have 7 #1 reviews that most of them are for BL, 3 #2 reviews so I trust my critical thinking more than yours. Not to mention a verified account and been member since March 2018.
If you can not use a fresh, new perspective without "blah blah blah", I have a lot of better things to do than to respond to a simpleton.
This series is bad not because of the lack of skinships and erotic scenes which are not a used-to-thing to thai…
and you even compare the Man-Type to Wat-Tine? How many people were there in Man-Type's? 5... 6?
And Wat-Tine? Well practically those who attends the Music Festival which is around 20, that's only what the camera can capture.
And I am a gay man myself, I never did hug or kiss my boyfriend in public, but when I am in with less than 10 people, I don't mind hugging my partner.
You see, not unless you are a gay man whose been in a relationship, you will never know the dynamics of such relationship. Wat knows that he is Tine's first boyfriend. That is the same way I am with the partners which I was their first. I keep very minimal the skin to skin contact when there's people around. You have to consider how comfortable your partner when you do certain things in different scenario. The most I do in public when I'm with my partner, is to put my arm on his shoulder, like what friends do.
Your profile says your female, even you are a lesbian, you definitely have different norms in public. And it is more acceptable for females to hold hands in public even they are just friends.
Don't expect what you think is okay is also okay to conservative societies. Even other Asian BL's, Japanese, Taiwanese, they are not wrapping themselves together.
The problem with a lot of people is that they take things on its face value without stepping back, as Mil said, to assess things. And don't bother to ask why he/they acted in such a way.
And the last time I checked, most of my #1 review are BL. Because 1. I am a gay myself, so I know and been there in the characters at one point in my life, and 2. I don't take things as they appear. I often ask myself, why he acted that way? What is his history? And such.
This series is bad not because of the lack of skinships and erotic scenes which are not a used-to-thing to thai…
they cuddle twice, in the couch if I remember it correctly. And one instance is when Tine's older brother, Type, is staying with them. Different countries have different ways of showing affection, different social norms. They have their own traditions and culture. Don't expect what happen in your country happens there as well. That's basic sociology.
And have you ever seen in a Thai series o movie that handshake? They 'wai'. Japanese people bow their heads as greeting. And in Arab countries, they greet by means of cheeks and not hands.
this is the last time i am going to respond to my thread as lot of people are oblivious. GMMTV's parent company is GMM Grammy which is the largest entertainment company in Thailand. They have a social responsibility.
Lastly, if you have 7 #1 reviews and 3 #2 reviews, which obvious you do not have, puts me in a way better position to analyze things.
This series is bad not because of the lack of skinships and erotic scenes which are not a used-to-thing to thai…
clearly you did bother to read my very first comment... since you didn't i'll repost here:
"DO NOT * It is not polite to express your private affection by hugging and kissing your partener in public places. Holding hands is OK for foreigners, but rarely seen at locals."
Last time I check, the only country in the Asia that allows same sex marriage is Taiwan. And if you bother to check it online as well, in the said country, PDA is not widely accepted as well. Each country has their own way of showing affection. You can not expect what is happening in your country happens also in Thailand. And what was the first line in my original thread? "Expectations versus Reality". Your expectations of things most of the time won't be turned into reality, especially in Thai series and movies.
If hetero couple can be rarely seen kissing in Thailand and Taiwan, what more a gay couple?
And I think I am in a better position to be critical of things after being in this site for more than 2 years, an approved profile (a check beside my name), with 384 edits and having 7 #1 reviews and 3 #2 reviews. And most of those are Thai.
This series is bad not because of the lack of skinships and erotic scenes which are not a used-to-thing to thai…
The perennial problem of Thai BL stories, it lacks new ideas. It can be generally classified into: love at first sight, fake relationships or bitter enemies turned into sweetest lovers. Never did I commented about the story being fresh. In fact, up until now I haven't watched WHY R U?, En of Love and My Engineer. I am tired of watching university/school setting. Out of the 4, why I choose 2gether to watch? It has the most number of members of the cast that I know of and I hoped that this is what Frank and Drake need as a follow-up to their Our Skyy episode, thinking that they are co-main couple.
And I won't start comparing Thai entertainment to that of the USA. Primarily is because of the very rich history of Hollywood. And, the US have definitely more talents, thus, can think of more creative and new plots. And a great deal of BL series in Thailand are based on novels. Novels are more on one-on-one thing can be more explicit than being viewed by a large audience. There are a lot of social factors to be consider if you want to produce for a mass media. And the BL genre is Thailand is still in its infancy stage. Thai films rose to prominence through their horror/suspense movies. It just since 2014(?) when it started to gain traction despite "Love of SIam" was released in 2007 and garner praises both locally and outside of Thailand. Even the movie I consider half-BL and half-family drama. While in the US, what I can recall to be the first gay/BL related movie I watched is "Philadelphia" and that was aired in 1993. 14 years ahead of "Love of Siam". Making "Love, Simon" as a reference that aired in 2018, plus 14 years, so around 2032 perhaps Thai can do something like "Love, Simon". Not unless GMMTV will lead the way for Thailand to be more liberal than conservative. But how likely? Very unlikely.
And have you ever step back to think why Bright's acting is "bland"? His character is asking for it. He is immensely popular, and yet, he still a low key guy. He needs to pretend to be a snob, doesn't care about his surroundings, distant from others. And have you forgotten how his character turned into a different person in flashback when he saw "the one" and can't contain himself telling it to Man and Boss about seeing him? That tells me that the time when Sarawat is a motormouth is when he is with close friends, Man and Boss.
Furthermore, I trust my analysis. After all, I have 7 #1 most helpful review namely for: "Our Skyy", "The Effect", "He's Coming to Me", "Happy Birthday", "Dew the Movie", "The Moment" and "Angel Beside me". And 3 #2 most helpful review, "The Gifted", "3 Will Be Free" and "What the Duck: Final Call". Out of 11 reviews I made in this site. The remain one still have zero review, so does the other review in "5 Lessons in Happiness: Little Man".
I don't see and analyze things on face value. Usually, I consider as well why a certain character acts a certain way? Is it in line what the actor shows and acts? What is the background or history of the character? I give more weight on facial expression than what and how is it said too.
Lastly, there is an emerging plot in Thai BL... Body swap and/or reincarnation. And "The Shipper" and "A Tale of Thousands Stars" is a mix of both. But definitely I am more excited than ATTS. And the reason why I will watch The Shipper, Ohm and First. I have high hopes that First will develop into a great actor given his acting Blacklist.
How do I enjoy series and movies? I watch it without any expectations. For expectations ruin the "magic" of the show when what will happen won't align to what you expect. The only expectations I have for this, the cast will definitely deliver, even the newcomer Patrick.
This is the perfect series for Phuwin to shine. Ever since I've watched him in "My Tee"/"Cause You're My Boy", I could see his potential. There a number of scenes there where I know he improvised certain actions. And I was surprised when he guest in Dark Blue Kiss, his acting there is waaaaaay more natural.
Now about this sequel. 1.) How they will "make" Pang. I mean, in the previous season, the school administration thinks his memory is "wiped", clearly, he shouldn't mingle with the other "gifteds". Does one of the other "gifteds" develop his/her ability to make Pang "invisible" or low key, let say, Ohm. And that brings me to the next item: 2.) Do the gifted students developed/enhanced their respective gifts? Well, they should. After all is that what the "The Gifted" program is all about? Additionally, how can Pang develop his gift if he is not part of the program? Or Pang will "influence" Teacher Pom to join the class? 3.) Based on the trailer, Pang is the on the PA system that "awakens" the new gifted students. Clearly suggestive that Wave have something to do with it. 4.) Will Punn's "demon" be helpful in any way this time around? Or will Ohm's gift cast it la-la land?
Season 1 for me was Sing's breakout moment. I mean, he shines like a diamond! I mean, he's cute when playing a goofy character. But boy! He can deliver as well in a serious one, especially his episode in season 1. After watching "Angel Beside Me", I never thought that I would miss Jane's queen bee persona. Pffft! Chimon and Nanon will surely deliver evidently in the recent Blacklist series. And for my other bias, Fiat. I really want airtime for him. It's like after his episode in season 1, you rarely sees him, especially towards the end of the first season. For Puimek, the latest I saw her is in "A Gift to the People You Hate", I must admit, her character there was outshined by Aye (Prang in the series). And if my memory serves me right, she was the obedient daughter which is a complete contrast to her role as Mon. And yet, her performance in AGTTPYH can be easily forgotten. I guess it is the material that was given to her. For the 3 new gifted students. I've said my piece for Phuwin, I will go next for Prim. Her acting in Blacklist is inconsistent for me. I can't fault her, after all, her character is a support role. But I can't wait to be blown away by her this time around as she takes a main role. For Patrick, errrr, this will be his debut. So I'm so interested what he can bring to the table. So to speak.
AND NO TO A BL ANGLE! This series did well without that and ranked as the best Thai drama/series even few weeks back was taken over by 2gether but after the 13th episode, 2gether's ranking slides drastically. BL and science fiction doesn't mix well. And I'm hoping that they use little computer generated images and rely heavily in taking shots from certain angles to create illusions or do it through editing as what they did in season 1.
Thank you for sharing your points. With what you've shared, I believe that the GMMTV BL shows offer are limited…
GMM Grammy, parent company of GMMTV and Nadao Bangkok, is the largest entertainment company in Thailand. To a degree, they have a social responsibility that can affect the mind-set of many Thais. So suffice to say that GMMTV is not yet ready to challenge the social norm.
Unlike the smaller ones like TV Thunder and Studio Wabi Sabi have a small pool of talents, thus lesser influence so they are more in the position to be progressive and liberal in what they show.
You can connect it with culture or tradition that Thai people aren't fond of Public Display of Affection.
"Kissing on the lips with your Thai girlfriend or boyfriend in public may be romantic for Westerners but it is certainly a taboo in Thailand. Holding hands can be acceptable but other unrestrained gestures of intimacy displayed in public are frowned on by many Thais."
"DO NOT * It is not polite to express your private affection by hugging and kissing your partener in public places. Holding hands is OK for foreigners, but rarely seen at locals."
What viewers missed out is only to a few who bother to look it up... Touching one's head in Thailand. In Thailand, the head is considered to be the most sacred part of the body. And how many times Wat touched Tine's head? That action should speaks volume already.
GMMTV is not about to deviate to its country's social norms, traditions, culture. And if you have watched plenty of GMTTV's BL produced series, this is not the very first time they hold back on PDA's.
I can still remember when "Cause You're My Boy" aired and when Tee and Mork kissed and was captured by a CCTV, it became a big thing in their school. So I went out of my way to find the reason why. Alas! PDA's greatly frown upon by Thai.
And how many scenes in GMMTV produced BL series where you can watch when a guy is about to kiss another guy, the guy being kissed often "stopping" the kisser and saying "somebody might see us" eventhough there not a single soul is on sight. Social norms.
BUT, could the scene be turned into a hug? After what Wat told, and Tine agreed, so the public knows their status already, a simple hug would have a great deal of affection and wouldn't be interpreted as a friendly gesture. Even putting one's arm over to another's shoulder will be interpreted differently. =========================== Win is a better actor than Bright. I would like to believe that.
After watching Bright's guest appearance in "My Ambulance", well let's just say his acting, it is very bland. Now in 2gether. Why it seems his acting is no different? Consider the reason why he is acting to be distant, reserved and needs to put a put up a poker face? The reason was established. And can you recall how happy and energetic he is when he found the "one" and going crazy talking to Man and Boss? His character should be calculating every move he does, after all, he lost him once and he does not have any plans to lose him again.
Going to Win. Tine's character best suit him as he was able to deliver the dumb, confused, jolly, sad and crying down to the T. I could say that the material that was given to him was able to showcase his acting skill. But for Bright, it kinda limit his. =========================== Going back to expectations vs Reality.
Don't expect what you've read in the novel would actually be adapted accurately. There are just a lot of limitations. Like a novel can tell what a person is thinking, how can you show that on something you are watching? Only by a voice-over or a narrator. That alone can strip what a novel can offer because when you read, you have a certain construct in your mind how the pacing, the voice would sounds like. So you will have a certain expectation by then. And when you watch the adaptation, if that scene does not comes close to your expectation, you tend to be disappointed.
That is why I NEVER read novels. It is just one or the other and not both. =========================== Honestly, this is a bad start for GMMTV's BL drama. As compared to last year, from He's Coming to Me, which i believe is the most underrate series last year, Theory of Love and Dark Blue Kiss all ended in a high note.
And with GMMTV's track record, they are not fond of doing sequels for BL series, except for SOTUS. I do not consider Dark Blue Kiss a sequel of Kiss Me Again or Kiss the series as DBK if purely BL and the two aren't. Senior Secret Llove : Puppy Honey as non-BL, the primary story focuses on the hetero couple because without the hetero couple, there is no Off-Gun interaction. So I am not expecting a sequel for this, HOWEVER, I would like a spin-off for either Man-Type or Mil-Phukong, like what will happen with Love By Chance 2. =========================== I can rant more or even praise, but that would be useless as this series is done and over with. That goes as well with "The Shipper", the series that will replace 2G in the timeslot. Unlike "A Tale of Thousands Stars" that will still start filming.
And GMMTV will continue to produce and air both BL and non-BL series, regardless the reception of the viewers. I think GMMTV will hear the sentiments of Thai as it is their primary viewers, the inter fans are just a bonus. Inter fans do not have a direct access to the products they show in their series. So if I am part of GMMTV, I will give more weight on the locals feedback than those of the inter fans. They manage for years now and this is the first time where I watched a YouTube episode with Eng sub right away, except for the first 3 episodes.
"The Shipper" will be a litmus paper for GMMTV. If they are going to repeat what they did to 2gether as when it premiers, the Eng Sub is already available so more inter fans can watch the legit videos. If they will, then, they are now considering what the inter fans can contribute to the company's bottom line. Products in their series for the local audience, monetized YouTube channel for inter fans... Win-win. And MAYBE, they will start to listen to inter fans.
Update from Wayufilm Production FB page: https://www.facebook.com/Wayufilm/posts/3343040662373307 : "Final Draft "my bromance brother 2 the series" It took 1 years to rewrite and improve continuously. Until it's complete, now I will gradually send it to the actor's hand."
And Lazy Subber's: https://www.facebook.com/LazySubber/posts/1108823816151735 " "It's confirmed by Fluke Natouch's manager that MY BROMANCE 2 THE SERIES will be on air at the end of this year. . Fluke also has another upcoming series in the beginning of next year but they're not allowed to reveal his partner yet. . THIS IS A SERIES, THE STORY PICKS UP AFTER THE MOVIE (My Bromance 2014). It has nothing to do with the series version (Cooper x Guide). . . Summary from Line TV (I don't know if they'll make changes, this is long time ago): >>>>Five years have passed since Golf, the best brother, passed away. Bank has never forgotten his love and sacrifice. On the day of his graduation from a university in Chiangmai, Bank found out that Golf is still alive. The two brothers will meet again with many unanswered questions after five years, at a time where society has changed.
Their new and old friends are ready to help them grow their love tree again."
Hoping though that the pandemic won't hamper the production.

And I'm hoping that they use little computer generated images and rely heavily in taking shots from certain angles to create illusions or do it through editing as what they did in season 1.
Unlike the smaller ones like TV Thunder and Studio Wabi Sabi have a small pool of talents, thus lesser influence so they are more in the position to be progressive and liberal in what they show.

Yes, that high five is cringe-worthy, but why?
You can connect it with culture or tradition that Thai people aren't fond of Public Display of Affection.
"Kissing on the lips with your Thai girlfriend or boyfriend in public may be romantic for Westerners but it is certainly a taboo in Thailand. Holding hands can be acceptable but other unrestrained gestures of intimacy displayed in public are frowned on by many Thais."

For more "official" website:
"DO NOT
* It is not polite to express your private affection by hugging and kissing your partener in public places.

Win is a better actor than Bright.

Going back to expectations vs Reality.

Honestly, this is a bad start for GMMTV's BL drama.

I can rant more or even praise, but that would be useless as this series is done and over with.
"Final Draft "my bromance brother 2 the series"
It took 1 years to rewrite and improve continuously.
Until it's complete, now I will gradually send it to the actor's hand."
And Lazy Subber's:

"It's confirmed by Fluke Natouch's manager that MY BROMANCE 2 THE SERIES will be on air at the end of this year.
