This show was a pretty good watch. I ultimately settled on an 8.5 for 3 reasons, 1) the characters were strong in this story but 2) they didn’t delve more into some of the more interesting characters and gave more screen time to the less interesting. For instance, the Wei generals should have been given more screen time and backstories. 2 of them, Wei Liang and Wei Qu had more banter but it was still surface level. Wei Xiao and Wei Duo became paperweights. They were always there but didn’t have much impact. Lady Yu Lou had too much screen time and became redundant after a while. 3) there was a good portion of the drama that almost seemed to lose focus of the bigger plot, or rather it started to focus on more menial things like Wei Shao and his jealousy or their random trust issues. These were lowlights for me because it stalled the larger story out.
