There have been many infamous “villainous women” throughout history — from Misil, Jang Hui Bin, and Jung Nan Jeong to Medea, Mata Hari, and Cleopatra. Looking back on their lives, one can’t help but wonder: was there a hidden story behind their notoriety? What if they were suddenly transported into the 21st century?
Here is a woman condemned as a villain. With no powerful backing, she rose to the position of Royal Noble Consort (rank 1). Her beauty clouded the king’s judgment; her serpent-like tongue toyed with the court.
Burdened with countless accusations, she meets an unjust death by poison. But when she opens her eyes in a wash of white light, she finds herself neither in heaven nor hell, but on the set of a historical drama. An unknown actress, Sin Seo Ri, is filming a scene where she dies from poison. Of all places to land—why a penniless, struggling extra with nothing to her name? And to make matters worse, the man she runs into is just like her: Cha Se Gye.
A man who would sell his soul to the devil for money and success, nicknamed a monster born of capitalism — the enfant terrible of Korea’s business world. And yet, this man collapses before one woman.
Two people, like villains from a fairy tale, meet and discover happiness in a twist of fate. The courage to open tightly shut hearts. The warmth that can transform even a beast back into a human being. This story seeks to deliver growth and redemption; fierce, intense, and beautiful.
What began as a story joined for fun, like clothes slowly soaking in a drizzle, may quietly linger as a small meaning in each person’s life.
