I am slowly catching up. I am on 18 now. The cast and chemistry is great, but I still can't get used to the mix of scifi and costume drama. A cgi voltron lion just appeared...
I suppose "video game-ish" is more appropriate, like it's all cgi and not real.
I am not to the desert sequence yet, but there was a sequence in the 13th house episode (force lightning and charging death star) that made me think of Star Wars, heheh
I am on episode 8 now. The story is getting engaging, but the action sequences are too over the top. They look so cartoon-ish that they kind of just take me right out of the story. This is probably the first show where I wish for less action sequences...
lol different genre. this is not wuxia but xuanxia. fantasy martial art. even the male lead not human.
Wow, seriously?! I thought fox is a nickname. I generally stay away from fantasy because there is too much room for story to head down a path that defies logic and common sense. I'll give this a few more episodes though.
I think my expectations were too high. This was one of my most anticipated drama since it is from the writer of mysterious lotus casebook and has XSY in it. I didn’t get a chance to start till now but I am disappointed with the first couple of episodes. The action went too far into posing and cgi and looks cheesy to me. I was really hoping for something more like MLC where the actors did the action choreography and the cg is just there as a background assist.
In general, although the show has great visuals, somehow it looks a bit too "digital" like too high definition and not quite real. It reminds me more of blood of youth than MLC.
I hope the mysteries will get a bit more engaging soon. The ML is good looking but his character and the setup is not that interesting so far.
I just finished. It started so well. The first three stories made me cry. I love the message too - that everyone dies and the most important is to live in the present. But something changed in the middle when the romance (×2) develops. The message changed too - from living without regret and letting go to being together always (i.e. the typical romance).
I think it would have been better if the show ended with the resolution of the uncle's story. The episodes after that arc were draggy and so much didn't make sense. The ending itself was underwhelming and the side couple "happy ending" completely undermines the message in the early part of the show about moving on. Overall, it was atill a good watch but it could have been so much better
I just completed the show. I have watched (though not completed) every lost tomb series except one; and surprisingly, this is my favorite.
I think it is because this is a remake. I know the general story already and was expecting the cliffhanger. I'd probably be annoyed at the ending otherwise. Although this is not my favorite cast, I'm looking forward to one (or two) more fast-paced seasons to finish out the story.
I am 12 episodes in and it certainly looks like a reboot (of the original). This covers main adventure in the 1st lost tomb series (with Yang Yang as xiaoge) and the first part of lost tomb 2 (with cheng yi as xiaoge).
So far, pacing is very good and they bridge the two adventures well. It helped that I'm prepared for an ending where things remains unresolved. That is like a given for a lost tomb show. But I think I have a good idea where this series will end (given the number of episodes left). And if I am right, that is a pretty good place for a series break.
I noticed that this series is with tencent now. Tencent did great with candle in the tomb - releasing multiple series with the same cast till the full story is completed. I really hope they'd do that with Lost tomb too.
I have watched the new generation x-sister stage too. It's a bit disappointing. Lee is great, but she completely overshadowed the rappers.
I think I have now seen all the stages I care to watch in the 5th round. Since I have no intention of watching a finale with TOP in it, I am officially dropping the show and have rated it.
I felt like a 6 is being generous, given the ridiculously obvious TOP bias and that most of the stages this season are good but nothing new/fresh. But I do like all the teams except TOP (thank you mango for making me dislike them intensely because of the unfairness), so I can't bring myself to rate it lower.
curious to hear anyone's thoughts about the recent 5th round performances that came out just now
Wow!! Just watched 0713 x-sister stage. It is so good. Very touching and artistic. The singing, dancing, and acting are all top notch. This is one of my favorite stages of the season so far.

I found the x-brothers x-sister stage too. It is pretty. But as a Cantonese speaker, except for Max Zhang, the singing is a bit off. Also, the two brothers don’t look at each other like rivals in their "dance-off" to get the girl's attention. Because of that, the character relationships are not as clear as it should be.

I only watch the first x-men stage so far. I thought it was very good and touching, but I got so angry with the scores I had to take a break. Hotdog is the creative leader of the song. The performance would not exist without him. Yet, he scored lower than TOP kid by 20 point for the song. It is basically an FU to what matters most in an artistic performance.
I knew I should have just watched the stages but I was lazy and thought it should be ok if I fast-forward through the episode. But no, it was not ok. I'll just wait for the individual stages to be uploaded.
I just watched the 3rd performance. How in the world fif Boa Lian score so low? It's so artistic and has great energy. It was my 2nd favorite after Ching Fai.
To make it worse, TOP was out of breath and out of tune on their PK dance stage and still got first in the PK. I mean, seriously?! I've seen trainees do better on idol competition shows.
0713 and INTO1 were both better by a lot. 0713 performance was touching and the harmony was so good. INTO1 performance was energetic with powerful vocals.
They never bothered hiding their bias for TOP. But this is just too bady rigged. I wonder how much TOP's company paid Mango. I wished they would just make a ahow for them instead of ruin call me by fire. I think I will just go watch one of the previous season or 0713 in go for happiness
My new favourite group, the rappers, New Generation got eliminated. ASLO IN WHAT world would TOP be able to earn…
OMG! Seriously?! I have been a fan since S1 but this season is not the same show anymore. It is clear that the production team has decided that TOP is untouchable and will just manipulate the competition rules or fake the scores so that they can eliminate the more experienced groups that kept pushing themselves and giving refreshing and better performances. I took a break after the 2nd performance; and from everything I've heard, I don’t think this show deserves my time anymore. I will probably not watch any other mango music competition shows again either. It is clear that fairness meant nothing to their production teams.
I am on episode two. I love costume mysteries in general. But the casting of this show is really throwing me off. The FL looks oldest among the leads and far older than 18. She did not play her character like a teenage girl either. The magistrate ML looks too fresh-faced relative to her. Only the traveler ML looks the right age for the character.
I'm old and like mature leads. But if they were going to go that route with FL, they should not make the character 18! It's just not believable, which is a big minus for a detective drama.
I took a break after ep 20 and finally finished. I thought the pace picked up a lot in the latter episodes; and the storytelling from there through the resolution of the Haiya mystery was great.
Then came the big reveal that I had kind of guessed. I know I am the minority but I actually found the episodes after the reveal not believable. Aside from the ML getting way with speaking to the emperor the way he did, it's like they made the ML stupid so that the big bad can be smug and all-knowing.
Even I know what the big bad is planning when he turned himself in. How can ML fall for it and not see it as a ploy to enter the prison? If ML had even half the brain he normally had, big bad would have been stopped before the 2nd "holy beast" case. It is like the writers decided that making sense is less important than building big bad up as worthy adversary to ML.
The whole back-and-forth cycle of plan/counter in the last arc defies logic at multiple points. And then, everything conveniently culminated in a situation that justified a previous plot element that I (and others) had disliked and complained about. I like happy endings where everything is wrapped up, but this one just felt too convenient and forced to me.
Still, it is a fun and engaging watch. I gave it an 8.5 overall. It would have been 9+ if not for the beginning and the end (neither of which I liked).
