Just started watching. I'm only on episode 1 and am already having a hard time watching younger FL. Her maturity/common sense level is well below 28. I hope her older version acts with a bit more maturity. Or it's going to be hard for me to continue. I think I may be too old for the show...
I just finished the show. The ending was so rushed and convenient. Who the final villian was doesn’t make much sense. The cases were a bit predictable but pretty decent until the end. It would be an 8 for me except for the ending.
I am going to stop watching season 4. The rules and points scores this season make no sense to me. The top scoring performance of the 1st show was not rewarded but punished with elimination of a member. In the 2nd show, one of the coolest performances got an unbelievablely low score. I think it's all scripted now. I will just catch the pure stage performances later.
I'm watching for ML. Mysterious lotus casebook is one of my favorite shows. I'm on episode 5 now. I usually love mysteries but I can't seem to get into it. The story is moving so slow. Will the pace pick up? I'm coming off of strange tales of tang dynasty 2 and am thinking about a re-watch of that rather than continuing this show
On episode 13. I love the show. But this episode is stretching suspense of disbelief a little too far. Where does one get a bag full of dead poisonous bees to keep in the kitchen canbinet? Also where does one get a swarm of live poisonous bees in a duffel bag? Is there a black market insect supplier in the show's universe where one can buy insect based murder weapons?
Just binged the first 4 episodes. This is so good! I usually stay away from cdrama set in this time period since I fjnd it depressing, and from the comments, this one will be no exception. But I like everything about it so far - the pace, the acting, the "wall street" like plot. I can only hope this won't end too badly, with almost everyone dying for what they believed in *sigh*
I just binged this again over the weekend. It's every bit as good as I remembered. I love all the cases and characters. I wish there's a second season.
Just finished. I think the series finished strong. I was worried the last case would be a letdown since the 2nd to last was the climatic one. But it turns out to be a nice epilogue to wrap up the series by giving the ML and FL a case to handle their grief and to move on. It's predictable but the atmosphere is quite nice and eerie. I think I am going to ignore the teaser at the end and may skip season 2. This one was already too heavy and philosophical for me. From what's in the teaser, I am not going to like season 2.
Starting again after a long break to finish the last two cases. I must say I am pleasantly surprised. The second to last case is very engaging as a mystery. It is such a step up from the last 3 cases, ever since they moved and shifted focus to Heiyan. I am almost 3 episodes into the case and am still trying to guess the truth and villain's true identity. There is still a lot of focus on morality and human nature but at the center is a mystery. I have my suspicions but this is probably the first case where the solution is not obvious very early on (sometimes even from the start). I hope this holds up till the end!!
On episode 22. They shouldn't have changed the game. Focusing on the mystery behind the game is fine, but the personal drama in game is just unnecessary and makes no sense. It would have been so much better if the game is still puzzle/action. I fast-forwarded most of the episode.
And since when is the FL so dumb? Why would she trust anything she sees in the game/virtual world? It makes no sense. It's so obviously a ploy to destabilize her and turn her against her dad for whatever reason. I'm too far to give up now, especially since I like ML but I really hope they get back to moving the plot forward soon
This is definitely one of my fav Cdrama in the last few years and it will be put on re-watch list, Ill probably…
Not everyone rates the episodes. I only rate a drama when I finish it.
I personally love the show but there are issues with continuity/timelines, which for a mystery is not so great, and there are comedic sections that don't advance the plot and are a little cringe worthy to me. It's hard to do the balance between drama and lighthearted fun right. This leans heavily towards comedic fun. So I can easily see folks giving overall 7 or 8 if they prefer a more serious mystery (more like Judge Dee).
Starting this after white cat legend. I like mysteries in general and I want to watch a show with Wei Zhe Ming as ML. I'm on episode 5. The mystery is fun and engaging so far, but the chemistry between the ML and FL seems a bit forced to me. And the FL best friend is starting to get on my nerves. I hope they don't focus too much on the interpersonal drama and more on the game/mystery behind the game.
I think the chinese words in the ending song said the last time QQZ saw fireworks was just now. Did i read this right? Did he not die? I mean, he deliberately off'ed himself by throwing himself on the knife. Even if he is full half cat like YZH, wouldn't that have killed him? I mean, I am all for him not being dead (because QQZ is just the type of morally ambiguous character I like), but I'm just wondering what others think.
Hmm, episode 35 and 36 are still showing up as preview on my iqiyi even though I have vip. Where did folks see the last two episodes? I just finished 34 and want the last two episodes badly...
It’s actually surprisingly good for a mini drama. The version I’m watching on Iqiyi has subs.
Yeah, i was pleasantly surprised too. I binged this in 2 days. There are parts seems really forced, but overall, it's fun and held my attention throughout.
When I watched it, the iqiyi subs were so bad that I turned them off. They were translating the literal chinese words and stringing them together instead of the meaning of what is being said. Maybe that's improved?
I just finished ep 15 now. I'm looking forward to ML going back to Thailand now that the professor's case is wrapped up.
