I'm so impressed by how closely related this drama is to the anime, they capture all the most important segments that was in the original PoT. Actor selection for each character is absolutely on point as well - with each actor enhancing the roles in original characters of which they play (not to mention they are all so handsome!). I feel that this drama provides greater emotional connection to the characters through the companionship and teamwork exhibited by every player (even those from other schools and are not a part of the main cast), and the character growth is more obvious than in the anime. I am happily surprised by how much I am enjoying this drama - if you are an original PoT fan, please give it a try!
I'm about halfway in and have to say this is such a sweet, light-hearted drama! Love both the leads acting, and might I say the kiss scenes are...ooh lala ;) Not to mention the friendship between the three Zhen, Jin Yu, and Li Qian is flipping hilarious! Definitely worth a watch if you want your heart to be filled with honey ❤
1) He sneaked out to go see Wei Ying. He was supposed to stay in Cloud Recesses.2) The song 'Wuji' was played…
I didn't catch it before, but during that scene in Xuanwu Cave when LWJ answers what the name of the song is, he mouths "Wang Xian"! Just like in the novel! I love how the team added easter eggs for lovers of the novel <3
Up to episode 10 now, I'm thinking of dropping it. "Bromance" is mediocre compared to Guardian, the martial arts…
I haven't seen Guardian so I can't comment on that, but I would say the true plot and story didn't click for me until about Ep12. From what I've been told, the elements of BL are actually much more apparent in later episodes of this drama than in Guardian. This is because in the earlier episodes, LWJ is still struggling with his feelings for WWX due to the rules of his sect.
This is Xianxia, not Wuxia, therefore martial arts will not be the highlight of this drama. Personally, I think it adds elegance to the characters and story, and is more suitable for bringing the "war" elements together.
This drama definitely isn't for everyone, but there is a reason why it is breaking records in the Chinese entertainment industry and so highly rated on MDL. Simply the interactions and expressions between LWJ and WWX show more love and intimacy than a bed or kiss scene in a heterosexual drama! :)
I gotta Q: anyone know the OFFICIAL Chinese rating on this show?...is it really as popular as i think or am I…
The main site for entertainment ratings in China is Douban. A Ling currently has a 7.9 rating - an extremely high and difficult to obtain score for web series. It's very popular in China, and many people expressed their satisfaction with the ending as well. Normally with a rating of 7, the production team and cast would already be having a party and celebrating a tremendous achievement. Therefore to achieve a 7.9 is freaking amazing!
It's been two weeks and I'm still obsessed, HELP haha. I re-watched the drama, re-read the novel & manhua twice, watching the donghua, and just started listening to the audio drama now. Every rendition of the story is tender and heartwarming, but I have to say that Xiao Zhan and Wang Yi Bo brought so much beauty and charisma to the characters of WWX and LWJ. Even if there aren't any BL scenes, their words, actions, and expressions tugged at my heart more than other versions of MDZS :)
Yes! I believe so as well. I think that the chief cultivator is a position that is lifelong however, so he probably did have to give up and pass on the position, most likely after the situation among all the sects reached a certain level of peace following the turbulence JGY caused.
The Chief Cultivator has to consistently facilitate meetings between the clans, such as the discussion conferences, and grand night hunts. If he's always traveling with WWX, then he can't do those things as chief cultivator. It's highly implied that LZ chooses WWX at the end, so most likely he decided to give up his position.
Lan Zhan and Wei Ying relationship in The UntamedLan Zhan: I Love You, BroWei Ying: Love You, too. BroLan Zhan:…
I think I agree with you that LZ showed his love much more explicitly on screen than WY, but I think this was because WY was the one that needed protection, whether it be from other characters such as JGY, JC, or XY, or from dogs haha! Not to mention, WY doesn't realize his feelings for LZ until he is reborn. WY's love is a bit more subtle, but is easily picked up like when he says that LZ is amazing in Yi City, when he yells LZ's name when he's faced with dogs. Also how happy and wide his smile is when LZ is standing behind him during the last episode scene. There were two scenes where WY holds LZ's hand. WY also becomes obedient in front of LZ as well, like when LZ tells him not to fool around in Lotus Pier after rescuing the disciples from Burial Mound :) Not as crystal as LZ I agree, but definitely still there!
Totally agree with you. I just finished the last episode. Totally think they should have given the CP a last shot…
Yes the novel ends in a similar way, except there are extras so there's a few side stories afterwards :) The novel ending is adorable and has quite a few explicit parts to it haha!
The Untamed is my new favorite drama! I've become obsessed with MDZS. I have some serious Wangxian Withdrawal Syndrome after I watched the last episode...currently rewatching scenes & clips, and rereading the novel at night in bed. I don't know how I'm supposed to go on with my life without WWX and LZ :( Xiao Zhan and Wang Yi Bo played their roles so elegantly and with so much charisma, I absolutely adore them. Their chemistry both on and off screen are so tender and heartfelt as well. Such a masterpiece of a drama <3
ME TOO I keep rewatching clips and replaying scenes, and watching their behind the scenes...When I wake I think…
Me too I lay in bed and my thoughts keep swirling about them, I'm about to close my eyes and sleep and my brain: "Remember when LZ did ________ for WWX?" I'm like seriously?! Hahaha.
im so sad and i havent even watched the remaining last episodes. omg i cant help but to think it's over, im honestly…
ME TOO I keep rewatching clips and replaying scenes, and watching their behind the scenes...When I wake I think about LZ and WWX and when I sleep I dream about them. I think I need help LOL I sound like a psychopath. Only Xiao Zhan and Wang Yi Bo could have played them, they were so perfect to play LWJ and WWX! I miss them so much and my heart tugs whenever I think about them and the drama! I'm glad I'm not the only one hahaha.

Very well said and I think your latter interpretation is another great way to view the ending! I would be lying if I said I am 100% satisfied. I read the novel as well and I think my ideal ending would have been if it showed LZ holding the reins of Little Apple while WWX rode, and they faded into the distance of the mountains with the music. But, I like to think such a scene is probably exactly what happens shortly after WWX turns around in the last scene :) Some time has obviously passed since WWX changed clothes, so most likely LZ finished taking care of things at home.
Like you said, considering all the cuteness and intimacy in the present day part of the series, my heart is already full! I was getting worried it would be too much to pass censorship haha. And with the obvious romantic insinuations leading up to the ending scene, it's pretty clear that no matter what, he and LZ reunite. Plus I thought they did a good job combining cinematic effects (music, slow mo) and WWX's expressions/movements to show this is what really happens during the end scene without breaking "rules."
Oh my gosh I'm in serious withdrawal after finishing the last episode...This is now my new favorite drama, beating out Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms and Ashes of Love! Never would I have thought a drama without explicit romance would make number one on my list!
The ending, yes I definitely wish it would have showed LWJ smiling back at him to make my life complete haha! But under the background of which this drama was produced (under strict regulations), I'm content. And seriously though let's be real...For all of the people interpreting it as a sad ending...Can we please consider all the evidence present that literally shouts in your face that they are back together again?! WWX playing Wangxian, the music stopping when LWJ calls "Wei Ying," WWX turning around and the music EPICALLY starting again while his expression changes, WWX smiling and slight giggle as though he's saying "Lan Zhan ah, Lan Zhan :)" The glass isn't just half full okay, it's about to spill over the brim LOL.
