Yes, the C idol drama genre is like that. Unfortunately that's the genre the international viewers has access to. None of the highest rated dramas in China is even on my watchlist. Personally I love/prefer dramas with beautiful looking people but definitely not everyone.

I heard on Reddit that on Viki, C drama release in SE Asia countries is very limited. No license probably.
I am watching When Life Give You Tangerines though, I have high hope on that one.

In K, C dramas, bosses have romance with subordinates all the time. Maybe doctor/patient relationship is acceptable in their country? I am not saying it's a good idea, but that's just how it is.

You should check out the Douban rating for Fang of Fortune and the guardians of the Defang, the ratings are just horrifying. Both dramas are my favorites. I seriously don't understand ...
