After episode 10?ABP was shit pretty much from episode 1.my friend watched an episode with me and she asked why…
I gave ABP a 6.5. It started off kind of cute and quirky but the plot was so formulaic and predictable and boring. Plus, I couldnāt understand why these two adults were acting like naive high schoolers.
I think people are having trouble finding your joke funny because weāve spent the past month worrying about Crazy Love and its abysmal ratings, with many fearing that KBS might even cut the episode order down.
Crazy Love had the bad luck to be pitted against ABP and its built-in webtoon fanbase, two very popular stars coming off of hit dramas, and the marketing might of Netflix behind it, not to mention its two-ep headstart. And Crazy Love never had a chance to make a splash internationally as for some inexplicable reason, Disney+ is streaming it in only a handful of Asian countries.
People might have been able to laugh at your joke had the playing field been a tad more even but 9.6% vs. 2.53%? A bit like kicking a man when heās down, donāt you think?
I watched ABP and I liked it well enoughāespecially at the beginningābut it seems very much like standard romcom fare to me with a fluffy, predictable plot, which is why its record-breaking popularity is a bit baffling, although Iām sure it benefited somewhat from the bandwagon effect. But what the heck was up with that ending?
I do hope youāll give Crazy Love a chance. The show does start off a bit slow but thatās not unusual for a K-Drama. But each ep is better than the last, as evidenced by the MDL rating climbing to 8.3 after starting out at only 6.7. And its AsianWiki rating is 90.
If you do watch it, please let us know what you think!
I think many of us agree that Crazy Love is ridiculously underrated. As I mentioned in my review, the low ratings in South Korea are not accurate indicators of actual viewership. The ratings only measure people who watch the show on broadcast television the night it airs, and this group consists largely of older women who may not be into quirky, dark comedies like CL.
CLās main audience is more likely to be younger people who are streaming it online, watching it on demand, or watching it on DVRs, none of which are captured in the ratings.
Unfortunately, many people take one look at the low ratings, write CL off as a bad show, and donāt even bother giving it a chance.
KBSās mismanagement of CL didnāt help either:
(1) Delaying its release because of the Olympics, giving ABP and MPD too strong of a head start, especially as ABP is on Netflix and MPD is on VIKI, both of which are exponentially better at marketing K-Dramas than Disney+ has been.
(2) Taking it away from iQIYI and giving it to Disney+, who for some inexplicable reason, is only streaming it in a handful of Asian countries.
(3) Laughable marketing and promotional support.
While we cannot affect the ratings in South Korea, as others have said, we can ensure that our ratings and reviews here and on AsianWiki and other K-Drama sites accurately reflect our enjoyment of the show.
If you gave CL a lower rating after the first few eps but feel that itās improved since then, please donāt forget to adjust your rating accordingly. While 8.2 is much better than its original 6.7, I think CL deserves an even higher rating, especially considering ABP is at 8.9. Every point counts! Hwaiting!!
I wasnāt a fan either as Iād only see her in Sweet & Sour but sheās good in this and very likable. She and KJU have great chemistry and they play off of each other really well.
I noticed that too. Iāve been thinking the opening scene in Ep 1 is a flashforward to the day NGJās supposed…
Oh Iām confident they wonāt die. But the mystery woman is counting down the days to his intended death on her murder board so Iām assuming thatās why they showed the sniper in the opening scene.
Anyone realize that what Shin-ah is wearing at end of epi 10 is same as what Go-Jin was wearing in beginning of…
I noticed that too. Iāve been thinking the opening scene in Ep 1 is a flashforward to the day NGJās supposed to die so maybe heās started dressing like his girlfriend by then.
His parents burned a charcoal briquette and died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
There was some controversy surrounding Another Way because Seo Ye-ji claims that they used real charcoal briquettes, although the producers and director insist they didnāt. She also got some heat for almost getting herself and KJU into a car accident when she narrowly missed driving into a bus.
