Tbh, I didn’t really know that it actually received a lot of backlash from netizens. I got curious with your reply/comment so I googled it. I agree that the scene was really unnecessary. After collecting my thoughts though, I kinda agree that it wasn’t overly disturbing like how some reacted because it wasn’t like ML groomed FL (it was only a one-time encounter). They unexpectedly met years after! But yeah, I do have discomfort with the romance between the leads in the sense that it felt like I have stumbled upon a secret or information of a stranger when I watched that first encounter when FL was still a child. I can’t help but feel like it’s cringe having the certainty that they’ll end up together when as a viewer, I have seen them meet when FL was just a child (it’s weird for me to take even knowing that the backstory between them has no romantic implication on it and ML has been depicted to love his wife very much so no ill intentions toward the kid back then). For the lack of better word: watching the romance develop between the leads is very awkward in my perspective (so I’m definitely gonna skip it over lol I’m staying for the kids who are undergoing their rebellious phase).

Anyway, good for you that you didn’t have to fuss over that little detail like I did. But yeah, they could have really written that scene better. Or better yet, they could have just removed it entirely. Or maybe, made them encounter each other when FL was like 18 if they really want to have that overly used ‘meeting in the past’ theme.

Exactly! That’s what I meant when I commented here. Though I don’t watch a lot of series with ‘age gap’ tag, I won’t mock it and say it’s cringe despite the big gap. It’s the backstory — it was meh like they can still establish the connection between the leads sans utilizing ‘meeting in the past’ theme, especially when the other lead is considered just a child at 13. Anyway, I think I might still stick around and watch how the relationship of each character with the children turns out to be. But definitely, I would just skip the romance between the leads as the backstory made it uncomfortable for me.

I have no issue with the age gap here but with the way they inserted the encounter when FL was only 13 years old. Again, I don’t think it was needed to build-up the future relationship between the leads. :)

It was my first time to see this kid in TKEM when he cameo-ed there and he made me smile with his cuteness automatically. But The Gentleman and a Young Lady is my first series of him and really, he is still making me smile with how cute he is (even though I just watched its first episode). I’m still a bit young but idkw I’m feeling like a proud mother seeing him on-screen. Lol. An adorable kid for real!

I already watched ep. 1 and I didn’t know there’s gonna be a big age gap between the leads. I personally don’t prefer to watch series with ‘age gap’ tag but there’s also still some exception. Now, the fact that this is my first series of the adorable kid, Seo Woo Jin, I actually want to continue watching this. BUT I’m hesitant considering the fact that they just have to give the leads a backstory when the girl was just 13 and the guy already 27. It’s just weird tbh — the encounter when the FL was still that young was not necessary imo. I mean, is the point in that for FL to insta-love ML the moment she realizes he’s the same guy she met when she was just a little girl? Cringe! Anyway, this series would have been okay if they didn’t add that scene... so now, I don’t know if I’ll stay for this.

Edit: If I do continue watching this, it’s prolly for the kids and when they bond with FL or ML individually. I’ll just skip the romance between the leads. Lol

new Jasper Liu's drama starting Sep 25: https://kisskh.at/62437-fall-in-love-with-a-scientist
I clicked the link and it was actually already in my PTW list but thanks anyway. Haha. I’ll prolly binge-watch it after it’s done. ZYT’s performance in Remembrance of Things Past was amazing so I’m excited to see another project of her.

I’m so glad this guy is getting a lot of roles. He is good in Voice and now, I’m seeing him more in a lot of series.

It’s good to see he is getting casted! He’s a good actor so he deserves it.

I voted many but I’ll just list here my Top 10:

1. Kim Won Hae — He has been literally everywhere. From good guy to bad guy, he has done it all and you can’t just help but be attached to the characters he bring in to the table. His most weird character would probably have to be as Vladimir Gozaev in The Fiery Priest.

2. Kang Ki Yong — Kang Ki Yong, just like Kim Won Hae, always play vital character actors in any series he’s casted. I like him being the clumsy guy and all but this guy can also be a creepy villain if he wants to.

3. Park Ho San — Park Ho San is also a great character actor. He is so good at what he does that at one series, he is someone you want to root for then the next one, you just want his character to pay for every dirty things he’s done the trash of a character he is.

4. Nam Goong Min — Nam Goong Min has always been one of my favorite actors. This guy has certainly work his way up to be who he is today in Korean entertainment. He is a versatile actor that can give you comedy and deliver angst/tragedy/crime the next moment.

5. Lee Je Hoon — His character as Kim Do Gi in Taxi Driver. Need I say more? But yeah, Lee Je Hoon is another favorite actor of mine.

6. Kim Nam Gil — Father Michael of The Fiery Priest! Kim Nam Gil has certainly stolen my attention the moment I saw him portraying the quirky, rude priest, Kim Hae Il. Another favorite actor.

7. Ahn Nae Sang — Another character actor who can deliver both the comedy, drama, or suspense in the series he is casted.

8. Heo Sung Tae — His portrayal in Watcher would always remain iconic to me. I also loved his character in Psychopath Diary. He is a great actor for real!

9. Kim Byung Chul — This guy is honestly another brilliant actor. There probably can’t be any more eccentric character than the character he played in Pegasus Market. To the point that I even had to wonder whether I can watch any series of him wherein he acts all dark and villain-y if you may (to answer that though, yes... I successfully managed to get over his role and enjoy his character in Doctor Prisoner).

10. Ahn Kil Kang — Ahn Kil Kang is another actor who I really appreciate seeing in a series. And yeah, this guy has been part of so many series too with different genres.

*I know my 4-6 have been playing more lead roles than ‘character actors’ but they had a fair share of peculiarity in some of the roles they’ve played. Also, I actually would like to add Kim Byung Chul in the list (I might even change my ranking and add him in my top 10 if he’s added — okay I just added him in and ranked him at 9). Anyway, let’s please support these character actors. They literally bring life to the series they are casted.

Other character actors I voted and (some or many haha) added in the list: Jo Han Chul, Lee Moon Shik, Jo Jae Yoon, Sun Dong Il, Min Sung Wook, Go Gyu Pil, Ahn Chang Hwan, Go Jun, Yang Kyung Won, Tae Hang Ho, Kim Hyung Mook, Lee Gi Young, Yoo Jae Myung, Jung Jin Young, Lee Si-Eon

Mostly lead guys with main roles but I also voted: Park Hae Jin (as Lee Jung Moon in Bad Guys); Lee Dong Wook (as Seo Moon Jo in Strangers from Hell); Kwon Yool (as Bang Se Joon in Voice); Choi Won Young (CWY is actually one of the few who still do supporting roles despite already doing main roles and I commend him for his acting really)

You are right. It is pretty uncommon to find both of the leads rich.
Bummer! I just read the synopsis after seeing your comment. I got so excited to see PGY as main lead (+photos I saw on ig was enough to put this in my PTW) that I skipped the synopsis and proceeded to the tags. Lol. But reading it now, it looks like it’s indeed gonna be part of RM/PW trope. But it’s still exciting because perhaps, her personality before is still gonna be there considering she used to be from a wealthy family too — she won’t be fazed despite the lead being rich.

Right? If it isn’t Rich Woman/Poor Man, then it’s Rich Man/Poor Woman so really, it’s gonna be fun to see rich leads in a romcom like this occasionally. Haha

Is is Autumn Concerto you talked about? That is one of my best drama! I tried to watch two of Aaron Yan's dramas…
It used to be so maybe? Also, older Thai series! But really, I’m more into watching Korean and Chinese series lately (especially the former).
On Dali & Cocky Prince Sep 21, 2021
I just saw the tags and both leads are actually rich. I mean, I haven’t watched that much and I feel like it’s pretty rare to see it in dramaland so it’s an interesting realm for me and I’m excited. But oh well... maybe I just haven’t explored enough to see series with rich ML/FL pairing.

Well, I wouldn’t consider it as really a ‘top’ favorite but it does serve its purpose for me. Haha. Anyway, now that I think about it, I haven’t had any watching slump for quite a long time now so don’t think I have watched any TW series for 1-2 years. I have a lot in my CW/PTW list but like to say that I really started any? I haven’t. Your article did make me reminisce the period I put my attention to it though.
