so i've been skimming and only watching woo do hwans couple scenes. can someone fill me in on what's been revealed about tae hee's car accident? i'm curious, but not curious enough to go skim through all the episodes again for answers
I'm not bothered at all. It's "an odyssey", not "the Odyssey", I don't think people read the title and think it's…
i like referring to it as hwayugi better too. i can't not associate it with the odyssey, but i see where you're coming from with the "an" and "the". i just feel like whoever came up with the title was like "aaah, here's a popular myth. let's use this name" even though the stories aren't remotely similar.
does the name "korean odyssey" bother anyone else? it's not a version of the odyssey, whoever came up with the english title should have just kept it related to journey to the west..
right, like i enjoyed the cuteness strong woman but objectively the writing and some of the acting was subpar.…
the reason wlfkbj wasn't a success in korea is because the two leads can't act and the korean public cares about that more than ifans do. i wasn't asking for a realistic approach, i was asking for a well written story and that's not what we got. yeah it broke a lot of cliches and i can appreciate that, but the plot still wasn't well written, some of the subplots were completely unnecessary, etc.

but i didn't say park bo young hard carried the drama herself, i said her and hyunsik and the romance between them did and that's the only reason the drama was successful. the way you phrased it initially, it made it sound like you were saying the drama's story was bad because it was like a comic book Hwarang wasn't popular internationally, the only people who ended up liking it were bts fans that had never watched a kdrama before (and there's a lot of them which gives the illusion of popularity). the reaction when the drama was airing was mainly negative. AS I said earlier "most often the dramas doing well domestically do well internationally. the only ones ive seen that didn't do as well internationally (or at least in the MDL community) were dramas that lack a romantic plotline. And even then, those who do watch the dramas agree that they are great" >> this applies to Woman of Dignity, Chief Kim, Defendant, Avengers Social Club, etc. All dramas that international viewers agree to be amazing, but didn't get as much popularity because they lack romance and international viewers have a bias towards romance. And it's that /heavy/ bias towards romance that made swdbs popular.

you're still implying that asian comic book storylines are sub-par because they are comic books, which is not true in the slightest. there are plenty of dramas where the stories are bad but are a big hit thanks to the lead actors. i don't know where you got the idea that park bo young isn't popular internationally, she's always been huge - especially because of werewolf boy and (on the more recent side) oh my ghost. the show had good ratings in korea for the same reason it was popular internationally: korea loves park bo young, and the chemistry/romance between the two leads was great. also, i don't know where you got "only very few dramas do well in korea as well as internationally". yeah there are definitely dramas that do better internationally than domestically, but most often the dramas doing well domestically do well internationally. the only ones ive seen that didn't do as well internationally (or at least in the MDL community) were dramas that lack a romantic plotline. And even then, those who do watch the dramas agree that they are great. TLDR; 1) I never said anything about Goblin, I love that drama 2) I've also never seen anyone praise the genius plot of swdbs. why? because the writing was weak
