How their chef (Dae Jin) could not solve it for so many years??... For him, who has been living and working here…
Quite honestly, I would have expected Woong Soon, who was not only the residing police officer of that area but also was from BBV, to have made a connection before Dae Jin.
Plus, what was Dae Jin supposed to solve? I mean, all he had to go on were yellow ribbons, empty yogurt bottles and what appeared to be accidental deaths. He was suspicious that something wrong was afoot, but without anything concrete it would have been difficult for him to extrapolate that the accidental deaths were in fact intentional.
More importantly, Dae Jin didn’t have Hyun Jo’s visions which is the only reason HJ knew the deaths were murders. It’s also likely that Dae Jin didn’t remember who all of the BBV residents were (given that it was 30 years prior), so he may not have readily made the connection that the people who had died on Jirisan were all originally from the village.
this drama had me hooked from the get go. i've loved pretty much all aspects -- the search and rescue scenes giving us a glimpse of how hard first-responders work, the conservation efforts and messaging, the gorgeous mountain scenery, the characters, and the intricate storytelling which has been slowly feeding us pieces of the puzzle since ep 1. not sure if we'll have a happy ending or not, but i'm fine with either at this point. sad that this drama is almost over!
im siwan is one of my favorites, but i just can't picture him as a rugged gunslinger. he played a pretty savage role in "merciless," but the entire time his baby face kept distracting me from the character. lol. i think maybe someone along the lines like nam koong min or lee jin wook might work. thanks for the fun article!
do you think it was relevant from me to rec this drama to pegasus market fans? i keep thinking about this as in…
yes, absolutely! like you said, the stories in PM and WLDN are different, but i think anyone who liked PM would appreciate the zany characters and hilarious situations in WLDN. i wish korea would give us more of these types of dramas, but it's probably not an easy task for writers to balance catering to the humor of korean viewers, and still being able to push the envelop with eccentric story lines that aren't too cheesy. eulachacha waikiki is probably one of the few other kdrama examples that pulls this type of comedy off well.
pegasus market was phenomenal in all of its absurdities. lol. it took me a few episodes to warm up to work later, drink now, but by the end i was rooting for everyone. the binge drinking was off-putting at times, but that may very well be the writers intention -- to provide a satire of the extremes of drinking culture.
i feel like the writer is throwing us the police officer as a last red herring just to mess with us.
kim sol seems to be the most motivated to kill, as he lost everything to bbv. his mom was murdered, then all of the villagers abandoned bbv leaving him and his father alone, and finally his father suicided. that must have been traumatizing.
the police officer seems to have had a happy childhood and didn't lose anything to bbv (at least as far as we know). they showed us his high school graduation picture where he is smiling with whom i believe are his parents (he called the man "appa"). i just don't see why he would be motivated to kill anyone, unless he's just a complete psycho.
also, it now makes sense why se wook partnered with the killer. it looks like his father was also killed right after kim sol's mother.
What's with the ending, did all the others know that Andrew was a total nutjob psycho ass?
i wonder that too. the residents were conveniently gathered in front of their apartment with bags in hand, as if knowing they would soon be able to collect #501's food/water after andrew eliminated the detectives. what they probably don't know is that andrew is infected, otherwise they wouldn't be clamoring to be on his side. those people are utter savages and deserve whatever bad comes their way.
i like this drama it's quite entertaining but the whole origin of the disease is kinda blurry like the NEXT drug…
there are plenty of medications on the market that are indicated for one thing, and then further study reveals they can treat another disease state. so it isn't a stretch that the blue pill, originally created to treat pneumonia, also showed promise as an ADHD treatment.
what doesn't make sense to me, however, is that medications have to go through extensive clinical trials that take years before going to market, so why didn't they catch the disease during this testing phase? unless the pharma company illegally cut corners and distributed the blue pill without testing?
people without ADHD sometimes take ADHD medication as it can provide energy and alertness/cognition for work or social activities. that's probably why the politician and all of those other people were taking NEXT, even though they didn't have ADHD.
regarding the cross, my guess so far is that the pastor is infected or has some sickness that repels the infected people. but like you said, hopefully we'll learn more about that in the final episodes.
I'm pretty confused too. So it's not related to the victims being poachers, but they were somehow linked to the…
for some reason i assumed the killings had stopped, but you're right -- i think they are still happening. i believe in the beginning yikang said that "ghost" hyun jo was still trying to signal (via the rock/stick formations) where the next victims would be, which is why she decided to return to work.
kim sol in that rock scene with yikang does look younger/different, but it could be because he was wearing street clothes vs a uniform.
crossing my fingers as well that hyun-jo will wake up. i'm sure he will, otherwise they wouldn't have kept him in a coma all this time and could have killed his character during the snowstorm if he no longer served a purpose in the future story.

I think the central link is the 1991 Black Bridge forest village, and the 1995 tragedy seems to potentially be a connection to the village. It’s possible the park rangers involved in the flood, and later killed, also had some involvement with the cable car company and the village being destroyed. It might also explain how the son of the park ranger that stayed behind in the flood, possibly became a replacement target for the killer.
The guy sitting next to Yigang is the park volunteer/historian, Kim Sol. He’s top on my list of suspects. Even though he’s not a park ranger, he knows almost as much as one and could easily steal their gear, like the white poncho used by the killer in the snowstorm. Plus he's been getting more air time. LOL.
Goo Young is still suspect, but I’m starting to think it may not be him because the show is making it too obvious, and we still have 5 episodes to go. If his girlfriend was killed in the flood like a lot of us our suspecting, he may have just been hiking to where his girlfriend was killed to pay his respects on the day Da Won was murdered.
I agree that Il-Hae is also becoming suspicious. I’m not entirely convinced his knee injury is real, but if it is, it could explain why the killings stopped after he went to headquarters. They only resumed with Da Won because she was getting close to the truth.
ratings on any platform have to be taken with a grain of salt. it's all about preferences, and sometimes a drama can be an utter mess, but it still appeals to the masses. and the opposite is also true with intelligent and well-done dramas being underrated. MDL and Douban ratings aren't perfect, as they are reflective of their target demographic which may not mirror your own perspective, but they're useful tools that at least help sort out the really awful ones.
phenomenal acting with an interesting glimpse into what life can be like for the hearing impaired. however, a couple of scenes were too unrealistic, making it frustrating to watch at times.
I guess that's because it's a new apartment and the price for the house is big so they just weren't occupied yet
thanks...couldn't remember if the reason was that the apartments were unsold or if residents had been left out when the barricade was put up around the complex.
