Wangquan Fugui is so cool!! The way he protected Qing Tong. The way he stood firm on his values and what he believes…
I just love Qingtong. I thought they would make her helpless and overly reliant on Fugui, but I'm so glad she's not. She's smart, loyal, and determined. In the main hall, I thought the script might have her defend herself, but she didn't care about herself at all and instead didn't hesitate to protect Fugui 😭

Even after watching several dramas of Cheng Yi and Bai Jing Ting, I still can’t differentiate between the two…
I thought I was the only one who thought they looked alike hahaha. Everyone says he looks similar to Li Hongyi, but I don't see it - I think he and Bai Jingting look more similar hehe

I am a CY fan but that doesn't mean that I think he has to get the iQiyi male god title every single time? If…
Agreed. Plus, even if the day comes that he doesn't get offered idol scripts anymore (can't see that ever happening tho), he will never stop being offered great, non-idol scripts because those dramas don't really care about traffic actors - they just want quality acting and no one can deny that the man can act.

Please dont talk about unrelated topic like this here.. both Joseph and ARP drama got 10k iqiyi heat index this…
I don't think an actor like Cheng Yi cares about these online awards. And he already has a strong 'foothold' in the industry? He's been the MC in some very popular and very well-regarded C-dramas in the past few years. Cheng Yi chooses scripts based on the characters he finds interesting to play, not the scripts he thinks will be 'blockbusters'/super popular/10K heat index dramas, so sometimes they will be a hit, sometimes not. And that's ok, he has many fans who will support him regardless of how well his dramas do, and his many haters are (in a weird way) a good indication, because haters only hate on successful actors and actresses!

The Wangquan clan are awful and I really hate hypocrites like that. Except for Fei and Tingyun. Hong Ye frustrates…
Not to excuse his behaviour, but I can kind of understand why Hongye didn't act until right at the end. First, he was also wavering - just what exactly is the right path for Fugui to take and should he even let him leave? Second, in the jianghu, might/power is king. If Hongye had immediately jumped to Fugui's defence once the disciples had activated the thousand swords formation, then the elders and all the disciples would have refused to stop and there's no way Hongye, Grandpa Fei and Tingyun could have held them all off. Even if they could, the others probably would have continued to pursue Fugui even after he left. So Hongye needed to satisfy the elders basically to stop them from going after Fugui in the future.

Obviously as the audience, we don't want to see our protagonists hurt, but in the world they inhabit, unfortunately such BS rules dictate actions 😌

The whole of EP12 was just incredible. I was waiting for this iconic scene and they did not disappoint!

Usually I'm not the biggest fan of martial arts scenes that rely on lots of CGI because I find there tends to be a lot of posing and CGI blocking the physical movement, but I LOVED the fight when Fugui activated his mother's fire. Even with all that CGI fire in the way we can still see Cheng Yi's charismatic execution and feel Fugui's killing intent. Cheng Yi ε€ͺ帅啦 !! 😍

Truth to be told, before Sword and Beloved aired, I thought Fugui was going to be stoic and emotionless. I'm so…
I completely agree! I was worried we would be getting a one dimensional stoic character, but I'm glad that's not the case.

I think Cheng Yi is interpreting the character so well too. Some young actors fall into the trap of stoicism = constant blank expression, which makes them seem wooden, one dimensional, and not like a real person at all. But Cheng Yi is giving us variations of mild facial expressions that indicate that while Fugui is not someone who experiences or displays extremes of emotion, he /does/ have emotional responses to events.

Ayo the strung up in a tree scene is finally here, poor Fugui 😭 Looking forward (but also kind of dreading) to the pierced by a thousand arrows scene too and seeing how they pull that one off, remember to get the tissues out 🀧

The soundtrack for this drama doesn't sound very pleasant, especially the ancient flute or something I can't quite…
The 'trumpet' you're hearing is probably the suona, which is a traditional instrument often used at funerals. No need to be rude about other cultures.

what's the major difference between the novel and animated adaptation? I loved the animation.
Yes :)

Same ! It's actually one of the first ending of time travel dramas that I find perfect for such characters. While…
I agree! Personally I think the human face conveys waaaaay more emotion than a hug or a kiss, and seeing as you say the joy and the tears as they gaze at each other across a thousand years is a much, much more impactful final image. I just love them 😭

Title Yummy Yummy Yummy Spoiler
Can someone tell me how the ending in the novel was?
It was a HE! Shaoguang and Lin Yan get married and have a baby. But bear in mind that the novel plot was very different; there was no 'ancestor' plot, no family transmigration, and no returning to modern times.

I just want to say that I think WYL and LYR both did a great job! I really enjoyed Yummy Yummy Yummy, although I have to agree that the first half was much stronger - I loved the comedy and slice of life aspects. Once the plot got going in the second half it definitely became weaker.

And the ending? Lmao, well I'm an oddity in that I love open/sad/tragic/bittersweet endings the most, so I don't mind this ending at all hahaha. There are some things I would change, and there are some logic issues that I will just put down to the romance of fiction, but overall I'm happy I watched this one.

When does it start going downhill in your opinion? I'm torn between not wanting to finish and wanting to finish…
Completely fair enough. Even if you drop it, I still highly recommend you watch the first 85% (ish :P) of EP31 (i.e., the penultimate episode). It's full of happiness and sweetness and you can just treat it as the ending ;)

China has censorship because back in 2010 children and girls were committed to transmirgate and several harmed…
The issue is that if the drama spends too much time in the present day after they come back, then it might end up still giving the message that transmigration is possible and you can have a happy ending from transmigration, which is what they want to avoid for the reasons mentioned above. Just explaining, I know it can be frustrating but hopefully you understand why this happens with the censorship and can brace yourself for next time :)

It depends what you mean by going downhill. For my tastes, I don't think it ever became 'bad' but it was definitely at its best when it was purely slice of life and ignored the politics.

Title Blood River
tales of dark river is one of my fave donghua, i fear that the drama can't match up with it, but man this sure…
I love the donghua too, so I was slightly concerned with the Gong Jun casting because although he looks the part, I'm not quite convinced he can pull off a role like Su Muyu. But I am hoping (and want) to be proven wrong! :)

but their lie is causing the hindrance to their love and marriage, aint it? how is that helping? she went back,…
For example, one of the reasons Lin Yan fell in love with Shaoguang is her resourcefulness when it comes to handling the affairs of the restaurant. But if she knew the future, maybe she subconsciously wouldn't have tried so hard to make the restaurant a success because she knew Lin Yan would be there to support the family, so that takes away one aspect that Lin Yan likes about Shaoguang. Not sure if that example makes sense!

but their lie is causing the hindrance to their love and marriage, aint it? how is that helping? she went back,…
That's why I think it's a balance. Imagine if she was told, 'Shaoguang, one day you're going to transmigrate and fall in love with this guy called Lin Yan,' I wouldn't be surprised if she thought a) you're crazy, and b) wow, so much pressure! What if I don't want to fall in love with him?!

So it's kind of necessary for them to go in blind without any expectation.

And there's also that cliched time travel thing where they don't want to erase all the memories and experiences that brought them together in the first place (i.e., if they didn't go through those trials, tribulations, and misunderstandings they wouldn't have fallen in love in the first place). Let me quote from Doctor Who:

Doctor: 'Time can be rewritten.'
River Song: 'Not those times. Not one line. Don't you dare.'

Any fun theories on how they will resolve the ancestor misunderstanding? πŸ˜„

Considering the limited scientific methods of the time period, I'm wondering if it will be a bodily thing like the family was told by grandpa (the one in the flashback in EP1) that their ancestor has a mole or mark in XYZ area and that will make them realise Lin Yan is not the ancestor, because he doesn't have that mark? In which case, I feel like Liu Chang is the best candidate for being the true ancestor since his background is quite similar to Lin Yan's.

Regarding then why they think Lin Yan is the ancestor, my guess is that it's a kind of grandfather paradox? If Shaoguang and the Shens didn't travel back in time, Shaoguang would never have met and fallen in love with Lin Yan. But if they traveled back and didn't think Lin Yan was their ancestor, maybe they never would have gone to find him to survive in those early days and so they never would have met that way either. So I wonder if they deliberately told a white lie to their descendants and asked them to pass down the story that Lin Yan is their ancestor so that they would have the opportunity to meet in the future? πŸ€”
