The family was introduced to lay the foundation for the main drama, but digging deeper into their characters would make the story feel dragged out. In a mystery-thriller, you don’t want the pacing to slow down because it can quickly become boring.

We were already shown how the father treated her when she was young, and it wouldn’t make sense for him to suddenly become a good dad just because his child went missing. As for the mother, she simply follows her father’s decisions, so there isn’t much value in diving deeper into their characters.
