Display a bit of critical thinking skills, this obviously isn't a romance drama. They aren't a couple.
"You have eyes," right? Then try using them on the synopsis instead of imagining a romance that isn't there. The story literally says she's investigating her father's suspicious death while he's the corrupt factory director she's trying to bring to justice. That's called an antagonist not a love interest. ML and FL don't magically become a romantic couple just because they're the main male and female characters. Have you never watched a crime drama, thriller or mystery before? Main characters can be enemies, rivals, detectives, criminals or victims and perpetrators. And bringing up Neo Huo just proves you're carrying expectations from a completely different drama into this one: different story, different genre, different character dynamics. Assuming romance here because of another show isn't evidence; it's your own assumption.

I have to point out that the scene where Xiaowei gave his mother flowers was one of the most emotional moments for me. Seeing her finally be appreciated by her own child was incredibly touching.
To me, her husband has failed her as both a husband and a father. She's kind-hearted, innocent, and easily deceived because of how she was raised. She never really learned to deal with people's deceit, and instead of protecting or supporting her, she ended up with a husband who only cared about money and never paid attention to what his family wanted or what they were going through.
Qi De Yao constantly puts others down with his words, especially Xiaowei. Instead of encouraging his son or praising him for even the smallest achievement, he belittles him at every opportunity. It's no surprise that Xiaowei grew up lacking confidence, avoiding problems and caring too much about other people's opinions. A child's self-worth is often shaped by their parents, and Qi De Yao played a huge role in the person Xiaowei became.
He also continues to show what kind of person he is as a grandfather. He was already calculating how much money Xiaofang's baby could make if it were a girl, treating his future grandchild as a way to profit rather than as family. His priorities have always revolved around money.
Even in front of his grandson, he tells his wife she's not beautiful enough to enter the "Most Beautiful Mom" contest. Then, the moment he hears there's prize money, he suddenly supports his daughter-in-law entering because he hopes to benefit financially if she wins. Moments like these show that he values money over the feelings and dignity of the people around him.
That's why I place much of the responsibility for Xiaowei's character on Qi De Yao. Despite everything, though, Xiaowei never stopped recognising his mother's love. When he gave her those flowers and told her she was the most beautiful mom in the world to him, it felt like she was finally receiving the appreciation she'd deserved all along. That scene genuinely made me emotional.

I completely agree. I have seen many good fathers in the world struggle to be good husbands. Even if they do change for a while, they often revert to their old habits, and the cycle continues. So, I’m hoping they don't end up together.

If they had cast someone much older trying to act like a teenager, it might not have felt as believable. She really captured the character naturally. And yes, I hope people continue to separate the production's casting decisions from the actors themselves. They accepted the roles they were given and approached them professionally. I hope the ending is as satisfying as the journey they've taken.

I think it's completely understandable to feel uncomfortable. A lot of us had the same reaction when the casting was first announced. At the time, there was a lot of criticism about pairing a minor with an adult in a romance drama. If you were active on social media back then, you probably saw many people asking the production to recast the female lead with an older actress instead of casting a minor opposite an adult.
Even after the drama aired, some people continued to criticize the casting and the real-life age gap, with some even unfairly calling HMH a paedophile. From what has been shared, HMH signed on to the project before he knew who his co-star would be, so I don't think it's fair to place all the blame on him.
That said, I think many viewers, including me, have come to appreciate the work the cast put into bringing the story to life. The acting is strong, the pacing is engaging, and although there is romance, it isn't the main focus of the drama. The show also avoids anything explicit or overly intimate that many people were worried about before it aired.
One of the biggest concerns before release was whether there would be kissing scenes. Ironically, I've also seen people complain that there *weren't* any. Personally, I don't think a kiss scene determines whether a romance is convincing. I've watched plenty of C-dramas with little or no physical affection where the emotions and chemistry came across beautifully through the acting, cinematography, and storytelling. On the other hand, I've also watched dramas with plenty of kisses but weak chemistry and poor writing. So, for me, the absence of a kiss doesn't make a drama any less enjoyable.
As for the chemistry between HMH and Ai Mi, I thought it came across naturally through their performances, their expressions, and the way the story was filmed rather than through physical intimacy.
I also have to say that after watching the drama, I genuinely can't picture anyone else playing Ai Mi's role. It feels like a role that really suited her. We've all seen adult actors trying to play much younger characters, and sometimes it can come across as forced or overly cutesy. Here, I never felt that. She simply played the character well, and HMH also gave a strong performance and worked well alongside her.
At the end of the day, I understand why people were uncomfortable with the casting; that concern was valid and was widely discussed before filming and before the drama aired. At the same time, I think it's also fair to acknowledge the quality of the finished work and the performances without ignoring the conversations people had about the casting.
If you've finished watching, does the drama mention the story behind the ledger that the FL's mother hid under her mattress, or was that plot forgotten? I hope they explore further, as I'm curious about the secrets the ledger holds. (I'm on ep 22)
I'm on ep 5, and I feel someone needs to confront the Qi family, especially Qi De Yao. Xiao Wei also needs to mature mentally and stop being swayed by his parents' and the villagers' opinions. He needs to take responsibility for his actions and be honest with Xiao Fang to build a healthy relationship.
At this point, I cannot recommend that they get back together. I also wouldn’t want them to be endgame because, from his friend group, they show disrespect towards the woman who is carrying his child. He makes no effort to defend her or to confront his friends to ensure they treat her with respect.
SXH disappointed me when she saved her ex-husband. She should be ruthless and leave him alone because I know he wouldn't have died easily if she hadn't turned back. What a waste of her ruthlessness.

I totally agree. Honestly, I thought she looked very similar to how she did in Princess's Gambit. The scene where she reached out her hand in the rain while the Crown Prince looked at her especially reminded me of Princess's Gambit, even down to her styling and makeup.
