Love a drama about female empowerment, misogyny & sexual harassment

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this drama since the basis of the storyline is about the FL lying about her identity and then not telling the ML she had his child. It’s hard to like a liar, especially one that keeps a father and son apart. But since the drama had such high ratings, I decided to watch a few episodes to see what I thought about it. Boy am I glad I did that! It’s a great drama.

Liar/pregnancy issues explained:
The FL is bff’s with the ML’s childhood friend that he lost touch with. The FL fulfills her friend’s (the ML’s childhood friend) dying wish & gives the ML the friend’s notebook. She never lies about her identity, he assumes she’s her friend. She even tells him her real name & identity but he collapses from the shock & nearly dies due to his heart condition. He refuses to believe she’s not his childhood friend & she decides to not correct him for fear of it killing him. So she’s not really a liar, she was just protecting him. As for her not telling him about the child, she was several months along before she realized she was pregnant. And by then the ML was out of the country having heart surgery. She didn’t know if he had survived the surgery or how the news of her pregnancy would affect his health if he was told about it. Plus he was staunchly against having a child since his condition is genetic so she knew he would push her to not have the baby. Furthermore, he told her he hated her and never wanted to see her again so she was afraid of how he would treat her if he saw her again. She also feared that once he found out about his son he would take him from her. Though I don’t agree with her decision to not tell him about the child, she had valid concerns about informing of his son.

Storyline:
The story revolves around the FL and ML resolving their issues from the past and rebuilding their trust in one another which isn’t easy. It’s also about female empowerment with a FL that resolves her problems herself and doesn’t rely on the ML or her friends to fix things for her. She consistently refuses others help, which is quite refreshing. It also tackles workplace harassment, misogyny and sex discrimination. The storyline has a lot of depth, touching on very sensitive topics yet is still able to make you laugh. I give very high marks to the storyline, it’s what makes the show.

Acting:
I have no complaints about the acting. Everyone did a great job. The villains made me really dislike them, the heroes made me cheer for them, the romantic scenes had me blushing and the sad scenes got me teary eyed. The little boy was absolutely amazing in his acting and stole the show. He was funny, mischievous and adorable.

Romance:
You can’t watch a romcom and not address the romance. The chemistry between the two main leads was on fire. There’s lots of kissing, flirting, cuddling & skinship. I also liked the chemistry of the two side couples and their romances. They were well matched and had interesting relationships.

Overall thoughts:
While this drama had an excellent storyline, I took off points because they focused on the ML chasing after the FL for too long. It was silly and funny but it got repetitive after it being the main topic in numerous episodes. I know some have said the ML shouldn’t be throwing himself after the FL considering what she did, but I disagree. Her decisions were understandable considering the situation as I described above. And her numerous rejections of him were justified since he had hurt her so bad. Who would go back to an ex that never let you explain what really happened? Who would want to be with someone that claimed to love you, yet kicked you out and told you they hated you and never wanted to see you again? And who would want to be with someone that openly confessed that they were harassing you and causing you problems because they wanted revenge on you over a past misunderstanding? The ML had to work hard to earn back the FL’s trust and rightly so. My only issue with it is how many episodes they spent on the topic. Fortunately, towards the end they really delve deeply into sexual harassment in the workplace, sex discrimination , female empowerment and misogyny. It really redeemed the drama and upped my rating. Few Asian dramas are about such sensitive topics so this was a pleasant surprise. This drama is definitely worth the watch, I highly recommend it.
