A perfect blend of romance, tension & ambition

It’s been a long time since I’ve watched a really good drama that made me binge watch it all the way through. So many dramas start out good then get boring halfway through. The story becomes stale or it gets repetitive with the main leads pushing and pulling back and forth too much. But this drama never had a dull moment. You can tell it was a high end production with a huge budget too.

Storyline:
I like how the story starts with the main leads as a happily married couple, it’s an unusual storyline you don’t usually see in Asian dramas. Then you start to see the cracks in their perfect marriage. It’s a story about honesty, ambition, independence and emotional growth. I like how fiercely independent the female lead is, her decision to leave her comfortable, pampered life and start all over with nothing was inspiring. And seeing the male lead humbly accept his mistakes and do everything he could to fix things was refreshing. He went from the cold CEO to the caring partner that always had her back no matter what, so seamlessly. I also loved how cute and funny it was, the comedy was perfectly timed to ease the tension. I appreciated seeing so much character growth too. Overall I felt like the storyline was very good, I have no complaints about it at all. And it never dragged and even had a few unexpected plot twists too.

Acting:
Lusi (the FL) outdid herself in this role. She really pulls you into her character and gives you all the feels. My emotions were all over the place but in a good way. She’s one of my favorite actresses and she absolutely shined in this role like it was made for her. I had never heard of the ML but I was very impressed with his acting. He went seamlessly from the cold CEO to the bumbling lovesick husband with no clue how to get his wife back. He made me laugh many times, but I was rooting for him. I like how well fleshed out all of the characters in the drama are. There are two secondary romances that are well acted and interesting too. Overall I give high marks to the acting in this drama.

Production & cinematography:
From the beginning you can tell this is a high end production by a major studio with a large budget. The wardrobe, set design, lighting, music & cinematography were amazing. It is one of the best put together dramas I’ve seen in ages. I’d compare it to Goblin or Crash Landing On You in regards to its overall production quality.

Romance:
You can’t watch a romantic drama and not talk about the romance in it. I hate reviews that don’t include this topic. The romance was really good and the main leads had amazing chemistry. There’s lots of kisses, cuddles, piggyback rides, hand holding & skinship. There’s also a few sexy bedroom scenes. The two secondary romances are pretty good too and I’m not usually into them much. I usually find them annoying because the storyline isn’t interesting or they spend too much time on them. But both of the other romances are good and add to the drama.

My overall thoughts:
I’ve been in a bit of a drama slump the last year or so. None of the new dramas have been anywhere near as good as the ones from over ten years ago when I first started watching Asian dramas. Lately they’ve captured my interest then got boring halfway through. I’ve had trouble finishing a lot of the dramas I’ve started lately. But this drama gave me hope because I ended up binge watching it (just like old times) in a couple of weeks, which I haven’t done in ages. I don’t really have any negative things to say about this drama. It was really good, I highly recommend it. It’s probably going to be one of those comfort dramas I watch over and over again because it’s so enjoyable to watch.
