This drama is one of the highest rated shows for a reason. After so long I still cannot find something that makes me as excited for the weekend as this show did.
you havenāt seen a lot of Qing dynasty dramas then. Chinese palace dramas are miles ahead of Korea.
The reason why I like this version of the Qing dynasty better because they didnāt try to romanticize the Manchu during that time like most Chinese drama. They were barbarians and behaved like it.
Janghyun is not a prince. In his childhood flashbacks he wears a noble boy's clothes not a prince's clothes. He's…
Oh good catch on the noble boy clothes instead of royalās. Iām just saying it would be cool if that was the twist because in history the Joseon King ākilledā the crown prince when he returned and put his brother to the throne instead. Jang Hyun is way more competent than the crown prince. King Hyojong (who succeeded the throne) was known as a brilliant and brave ruler who dedicated his life to serving his nation. I feel like that fits Jang Hyun perfectly.
So I read that during the Qing invasion the crown prince of Joseon along with his younger brother were taken as hostages, but they came back to Joseon after a few years. One of the two later became the King Hyojong. How cool if Jang Hyunās real identity is the other prince.
I just love XY and XCās relationship so much! There was a scene where XY was talking Nian out of falling for…
You said everything I felt through out the drama. If there is anyone that deserved an end game with XY it has to be CX. All the MLs are willing to die for her but CX fought to stay alive so he can continue to protect her. He took on the whole world just so she can be safe and at peace.
I think he's quite an interesting character. At least he has something he wants to achieve. I don't think there's…
Why couldnāt they spare him? From the beginning of the drama until the end he experienced nothing but tragedy and loneliness. Iām scared for season 2. The moment he ascended to the throne I knew he had lost her forever. Wahhhš

Yes thank you! His character was so complex it made the drama more interesting for me. He was burdened with vengeances from the past generation. Because of all the lost he experienced in his childhood he knew in order to protect the people he love he has to rule the world first. My regret is that the author made his love story one-sided. While he loved XY romantically, she only saw him as an older brother/cousin. That made my heart ache for him even more. In episode 35, the scene where he stand under the snow with a coat in his arm and a little smile on his face, while the ost played in the bg as he was waiting for XY to return was so touching to me.
Tbh, I've been super confused as to why people are acting like they'd be dating any of them in real life š¤£š¤£…
āThat's what is great about fiction though is that you can pretend/overlook things you would not/should not tolerate in real life.ā
Omg thank you for this comment! Iām so tired of people mixing fiction and real life together and get upset because a character is not morally acceptable. I personally like to watch complex character like CX. And while I do root for him the MOST in this drama, that is not a person I EVER want to encounter in real life.
I end up giving this drama better rating because of CX. I love it when the main lead is a villain and yet somehow weāre still rooting for him. I might be the only one here that hope he end up with the girl and yes even after I read season 2 spoilers.
