I was disappointed in the first ep when that scene came to the screen and i was like "What in the world is he doing"? How is he a romantic lead ? He is like that then why people are posting everywhere about him ? I REALLY JUDGED HIM SO HARD IN EP 1 but i liked the lil trickster WSW so i sticked with it and gosh i'm so thankful to me for not dropping it bcuz as the story went on I ended up liking CC so much 😭( i think i have shared more than enough about my reaction😂 , Now let me tell you a lil about CC's character and why there are so many defenders of him ) .
The reason I kept watching—and what eventually made me forget that awful first impression—is the incredible contrast they build into his character. The fact that he’s so cold and intimidating to everyone else in the world, but eventually becomes so protective and soft specifically for Wu Suo Wei, is what sells the arc. The shift in his gaze and demeanor when he looks at WSW is a full 180. You'll notice that while Chi Cheng is initially aggressive and forceful in his pursuit, once WSW enters his life, he genuinely never forces him for anything important—he actually respects his boundaries and emotions more than you’d expect from a character with that starting point.
So what i can tell you for sure is that the show doesn't try to overlook or justify his initial actions; it uses them as the starting point for his character development. If you stick with the series, you will see a different, more redeemable side of Chi Cheng emerge, which is why he remains a popular character despite his terrible introduction. If you can handle stories where the "redemption arc" involves overcoming truly awful starting behavior, you might find yourself rooting for the later version of him... like me, ahem !!
( PS - sorry guys for writting such a lengthy text , my hands weren't stopping 😭. None of my friends watches BL and i can't share it with anyone so i think that's the reason why this text converted into an essay as MDL is the only place where i can yap about RL ) .
I absolutely agree that his biggest moment of growth would be taking responsibility for his son, regardless of the professional fallout. That would be the ultimate proof of his love and sincerity. And the idea of him cultivating agave plants because that's when he was genuinely happy is brilliant! I'd love to see him prioritize that personal passion over his family's expectations and finally break out of that 'robot' role.
For my own hopes, I really want to see Yan's sister reclaim her independence after everything she’s been through. Maybe a final scene where she starts her own passion project or truly sets boundaries with her parents for good .
It felt as if CC was accompanying his WSW to the SPA ~~
Out of all the Chinese bromance dramas i know, you've mostly seen all of them, so this is the only drama i can recommend to you as of right now .
It's just my opinion, not a statement on all Asian acting. We can agree to disagree.
However, i don't think it was draggy at all bcuz the break up lasts only 2 eps and Even after the official breakup, Chi Cheng is still heavily involved. He shows up immediately after the funeral (in Episode 20) and forces Wu Suowei to finally face his grief. This scene is one of the most powerful and intimate in the entire series!
SPOILER :- Chi Cheng deliberately provokes Wu Suowei by acting cold and saying hurtful things. He doesn't do this to be mean; he does it because Wu Suowei is numb and unable to cry, and Chi Cheng knows that only he can make Wu Suowei feel something strong enough to break the emotional dam.
While they are technically 'broken up' for a short while, the episodes are full of intense emotional interaction, a major plot tragedy, and huge character growth. It feels essential because it forces both leads to admit their true feelings and dependencies without the pretext of their dating relationship.
( I personally feel the break up and all was necessary . You can try to watch it and if you feel its draggy for you or is unnecessary then you can drop it 😊 ) .
