~ Chi Cheng isn't prioritizing "loyalty to the mother" over his partner; he's trapped by an absolute promise to a vulnerable, sick person—his partner's mother. In many cultures, a dying wish or an explicit request from an elder in this position of need is seen as a sacred, unbreakable duty. Chi Cheng views it as his responsibility to relieve the mother of one stress (her son's grief) so she can focus on her final days.
Chi Cheng knows exactly what profound grief and abandonment feel like because of his past. He sees the secret as a way to protect Wu Suowei from the pain for as long as possible.
Chi Cheng's actions, while frustratingly illogical, are consistent with his character's internal struggle: he is a man who deals with emotional trauma by taking on burdens and locking emotions down, rather than by opening up and communicating. His past has taught him that love can be painful and unpredictable, so he tries to control the flow of pain, which ultimately backfires spectacularly.
( sorry for the long ass essay but i had to do it to explain why CC did what he did ! )
His decision to stay has nothing to do with whether SWL is a jerk. It has everything to do with:
- Financial Necessity: He needs the job to pay off debt and support a sick family member. Leaving isn't an option; it's financial ruin.
- Identity Safety: He has a critical, life-altering secret to protect. This job/environment is likely where he maintains that fragile disguise.
If a character stays in a physically and emotionally draining situation for ten years to protect his family and ensure their survival, that isn't weakness; it’s a profound act of self-denial and duty.
Think about it: what takes more strength? A single dramatic exit, or the daily, grinding effort to suppress your pain and keep fighting for someone else's life over a decade? Gao Tu’s ten years of endurance is the definition of resilience in the face of impossible pressure. Dismissing that as a lack of strength simply shows a refusal to engage with the actual high-stakes drama of his character.
1. Gao Tu’s "Choice" Isn't About Romance: His primary motivators are debt, a sick family member, and a secret identity—not just unrequited love. The job, and by extension the proximity to SWL (who is presumably a boss or important figure), is a lifeline. Staying is a pragmatic choice to survive and protect his family, not a sign of romantic weakness. Suggesting he should throw all that away to "man up" for a clean romantic rejection is a privileged and short-sighted take.
2. Strength Isn't Always a Roaring Confession: The kind of "strength" you appreciate—the dramatic confession and telling someone to "f@#k off"—is loud and momentary. The strength Gao Tu shows is quiet, enduring, and sustained over a decade. It's the strength to put your own emotional pain second, show up every day, and continue fighting for your loved ones even while being personally crushed.
That continuous, invisible struggle is why fans admire him. It's not doormat behavior; it's heroic sacrifice. You can prefer a different kind of character, but don't belittle his decade-long endurance as fragile or weak just because it doesn't fit your personal definition of how a character should react to a crush.
You are mistaking a character's vulnerability and circumstances for genuine fragility . Associating being loved with being fragile really sets up an unhealthy standard,,and that's a messy way to look at love . Gao Tu character is loved by many people not bcuz he is fragile but he's loved for his incredible resilience .
*Fragility is being easily broken
*Resilience is enduring a crushing point of pressure and still getting up
( despite the barrage of SWL's insults , Gao Tu remained unbroken..so how is he fragile as an Omega !!??)
Gao Tu is constantly under immense pressure ; he is hiding a critical part of his identity , struggling with debt and a sick family member , and navigating a workplace where he's always on edge . He has suffered and keeps fighting to survive and protect those he cares about .
That's not FRAGILITY ; that's quiet, enduring STRENGTH .
I was flabbergasted to see the peanut size screentime for LengTu when i was watching the eps and that's why i came here to check their roles and they were titled as Main couple but their screentime speaks otherwise so i was confused in the beginning like CAN THEY BE CONSIDERED THE MAIN CP with their screentime 😭 ?
