I was slightly unsure about this drama during the 1st episode, but after the 2nd one I'm convinced and will watch every week! I recommend others to watch at least the first two eps before deciding.

He completed his military service from 2011 to the end of 2012.
After that, maybe he wanted to spend more time with family / choosing projects (not sure).

So glad I decided to start watching k-dramas. I hope the international community takes a closer look at this one! Really engaging, insightful and makes you think. Medical themed dramas can last for years so I hope they will at least consider making a second series!
