The Untamed and Word of Honor are perfect even without the more intimate stuff. I might start Killer and Healer…
First of all, I'd like to mention that Killer and Healer is not a Wuxia drama. It's about a doctor and a police man that live around the 18th -20th century (I forgot exactly when) and if you cried in The Untamed or Word of Honor, you will probably need tissues for this drama too. I liked it because it was so different from regular plots. And I agree with the tie investment thing, chinese dramas can be quite long
Second of all, I didn't feel attacked by anything you said or anything, just wanted to mention that.
I also got used to it quite quickly, and even though I think (non-BL) korean dramas for example are so much better in terms of storyline, character development, etc, I am still watching more BL than those other dramas. I still don't know why to be honest.
All of my friends (irl) are from a completely different background, different religion, different ethnicity group to me, so I am quite used to that sort of thing being different (eg: hierarchy, marriage, etc), and it was never that off-putting for me to start with. That being said, a few years ago, I was ONLY around people who shared my culture, etc so it did take me some time to get used to the way my friends' families thought and viewed society, so I do understand where you're coming from. The tropes I was talking about... well, while I have gotten used to them, I find that a bit concerning tbh. Personally I haven't really been in a romantic relationship, therefore I don't think it's great for me to be watching stuff where the leads always seem to get jealous of eachother, and where it seems like they don't fully trust the other that they won't cheat on them? And then that often spirals further and further. While that is the type of drama that I have got used to watching, now that I think about it, I think for the sake of the viewers' relationships, I think it's important that the BL industry, or the entertainment industry in general, moves away from portraying these type of relationships as cute, desireable, and what-not.
hmmm... definitely. Personally I am not as informed about the LGBTQ+ community as I want to be. That's also a small part of the reason why I started watching BLs, however at the same time, I am not sure that watching BLs is a good way to learn more about queer relationships and the LGBTQ+ community in general?... Maybe you have some tips/resources on that?
please... i've had enough doctors, foodies and musicians by now... I'm just praying that the mafia or "bad" guy type character won't be overdone (such as in Not Me)
Ok some are funny, and I'll admit, I didn't even realise the Pink Milk was an add until you mentioned it. lmao i was always like "wtf is this with the pink milk" and now my life suddenly makes so much more sense
definitely agree with your point about plot. And to be real, I do like some cliche, basic type plots, like enemies to lovers, best friends to lovers, or a simple plot like in color rush season 1, or Semantic Error. Especially Semantic Error had such a simple and common plot, but it was (in my opinion) one of the best korean bl dramas.
And I didn't mean I want BL dramas to be realistic realistic in that way, what I meant was, I want them to not overdo certain scenes and dramatise everything so much. If BLs were realistic, the dramas would sadly be filled with scenes were other people are being homophobic and what-not, and I couldn't watch that either. What I was more referring to, was some of the embarrassing scenes, or the cliche "girl gets jealous of bl couple so she tries to sabotage them", or the screaming by girls everytime a cute boy walks past... I'm not sure if I was able to explain that well? I guess what I was also trying to say was that I want more focus on the character development and the development of relationships between characters (ie: them having meaningful conversations, cute/fluffy moments to deepen their bond, etc)
Hi bby, welcome to the chaos we are glad to have you here. The untamed will remain special in my heart, to me…
ooooh tysm! I will definitely. OMG I CANT UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN WAS SO GOOD AND DAMN I CRIED SO MUCH JBDJHVEJHVjejhW definitelyyyy
A tale of a thousand stars and to my star have been on my watch list for ages. Where your eyes linger and cherry magic are both *chefs kiss* Cherry magic was my first japanese BL, I loved it! And I also really appreciated that the drama was so good despite the fact that there is basically no skinship and they don't kiss (if i remember correctly). It proves that BL doesn't have to be about the skinship, kissing, whatever

Oooooh ok, you've raised my expectations for Immortality a lot now, because I tbh I hadn't really heard a lot about it before.
Which platform is the fan translated version of KP on?
Oh yes, I see. There are a few BL dramas that I actually quite liked, but there were certain scenes that concerned me, because r@ping, sxxual assault, abuse, etc gets sweeped under the rug quite quickly, and almost portrayed as something completely normal between gay couples, or in relationships in general? which I find incredibly concerning. In general, I think certain stereotyping and certain portrayal of themes and concepts isn't acceptable, especially when it's not explained properly, or it's just a small subplot without/with less context.

honestly same here. I know it's a cliche, best friends to lovers for queer romance, but I don't mind it as long as its done well.
And same with the enemies to lovers plot in We Best Love, it was cliche in a way, but also not unrealistic, and the uni plot was done in a realistic and cute way. It also didn't matter that they were at uni if you know what I mean?
oooh ok. I've heard quite a bit about HiStory 3: Trapped, so I think I'll watch that soon :))
Are there any other dramas you recommend?
ALSO BTW I JUST SAW WHO UR PROFILE PIC IS OF <3333 honestly manner of death is probably the only Thai BL that my rant above didn't apply to lol
Hi bby, welcome to the chaos we are glad to have you here. The untamed will remain special in my heart, to me…
hey mimicat :)) I've read a few of your longer comments on kisskh, and I just want to say every time I read your opinions, I find myself agreeing with almost everything you say ahahah. I think your opinions and views are really refreshing to read and also insightful, because they are (in my opinion) very reasonable and well thought through.
Anyway, I definitely know what you mean with Untamed, and I agree 100%. The Untamed will forever be one of the best dramas ever in my opinion, and to this day it is my favourite chinese drama and favourite historic drama. It will probably stay in my top 5 dramas for a while too ahaha
oooooh is the novel for the drama immortality good? I only ever read the novels after the dramas have finished airing because I am scared that I'll have expectations for the drama. For example, I disliked Harry Potter the movie because it missed SO MANY of my fav scenes, and I don't want that to happen to any more movies, or dramas in this case. But Immortality is definitely on my watch list. I've read Mo Dao Zu Shi (The Untamed), and I know I'll definitely read KP and Immortality once they've finished airing.
LMAO "kid's shows in an alternative gay universe" is SUCH a good summary of what a lot of BL dramas are like, sadly.
Regarding your comment on toxicity, are you talking about dramas like CP?
Definitely, I think that is why KP has attracted so much attention and such a huge audience, and I am hoping that it will introduce many more people to the world of BL.
Hi bby, welcome to the chaos we are glad to have you here. The untamed will remain special in my heart, to me…
oooooh i'm watching Plus and Minus and i ADORE it <33 definitely worth it. I only regret watching it this early on because of the wait.
Tbh I only watch dramas while they are airing if I find the trailer REALLY good, and others I will binge watch after so I can just skip watch.
If you like Taiwanese dramas, have you watched We best love? I know the first season is Uni/college, but the 2nd season is. Also, I've wanted to watch some of the History dramas, which one should I start with?
