Likewise, you're cultivating the green path, planting seeds. Respect.

Just my .50 cents

Monoculture (in the west) is very much here, it's a fluctuating stream though, and its legs are currently being uprooted.

I'm not into the accept/demand dichotomy. I'm more - like what you like, and if you don't like - detach.

Blind acceptance is as ignorant as mindless outrage.

Lol, love this - you're very on brand.

And concur, we've closed our eyes. Monoculture is an ever enclosing straitjacket.

Technology accelerates much of this, but it shall also allow new forms of communities and discourse to arise. Perhaps it is there folks will follow the green mile.

Just my .50 cents.

MY FAV PD IS BACK! The 'Crowned Clown' & 'Money Flower' are both rare high quality works, watch them if you haven't already. Her exploration of what I assume will be a more comedic script (writer of Fiery Priest, Chief Kim) will be interesting.

Hope the leads confirm.

Am I the only one who wishes these two were cast in a more serious role? Their chem is steamy AF. The quirky comedy…
I don't know, melo with a young main cast never sits well with me . . Needs some age in there to sell the angst.

But yeah their chemistry is lit, would love them in a Saeguk, or a romcom with a better script, little to work with here.

Boy this drama is really testing the waters huh . .

Great opportunity for us to ponder on what it means to watch something from the "outside."

Korea is a country different from our own, a different culture, a different people, with different sensitivities. These shows aren't "made for us" . . and yet we partake. This has implications.

If you find something "wrong" sure you can voice your concern your disappointment, and it may affect your ratings.. best case you drop it to relieve yourself from torture.

But pure outrage has no use here. . It won't be heard. They don't need your money (guessing this isn't on Netflix), and they're not making it for "you". You have chosen to partake, and thus you play within the realms of their rules.

If you find it wrong, write a blog post about it — we need more thoughtful commentary on what it means to watch Kdrama from the outside.

Personally I do find some of the scenes insensitive (and I don't think much of the script - we don't need more webcomic adaptions), but I'm also aware of what a tragedy it'd be if Korean cinema was subsumed by western monoculture — only producing things appealing to our eyes..

Watched episode 4 - it's getting better! The show excels when it focuses on the human-ness of the main characters, wholesome zany comedy, and light hearted romance. Drop the histrionics (distasteful rasta guy parody, the overly screaming family members) and there's actually a good drama in there! The ratings increase for this episode (8.3%) reflects that.

I am going to watch it anyway. But can someone tell me if it has any romance ?Bcz before it released, I guess…
There's definitely some romance involved, one of the major themes along with family and coming-of-age. Just a wholesome drama through and through

So sad about Hana..

I'm not here to lay blame, but I really hope the panelists reflect on the impact of their words, especially throughout this season - as they made many predatory and unthoughtful comments against several members.

Also I think moving forward, for a show like this there NEEDS to be some sort "Wait one year after your TH participation until you're allowed to use social media" kind of rule.

1) it increases authenticity of the cast. They are there to fully embrace the terrace house experience, not to self promote.. Watch the first season and you compare that cast to those of later ones and you know what I mean..

2) Mental health. Imagine you've participated in a reality show, your everyday behaviors visible for all to see.. This in itself is scary and requires guts.

Now imagine as episodes come out, you get bombarded with vicious comments from bored netizens all over the world in real time.. Strangers have access to your mind (IG & Twitter biggest culprits here) at the same time as you're being exposed to the world, and they're berating you for things that my not have even been represented truthfully in its entirety..

I think a 1 year sns ban would help here, acting as a time lag. Whatever happens today will be forgotten by the public consciousness tomorrow.

Hana was 22 when this all happened. Barely an adult. Why did she have to be exposed to all that hate? Production needs to think hard about the effects of this experience, especially on younger participants.

Blown away by this masterpiece. Definitely merits a couple of rewatches, along with devouring Lee Chang Dong's previous works.

The constant roasting of Ruka by the panelists is getting unpalatable. He's a young kid, let him learn and grow.. Happy he's not on social media, adds some authenticity to his presence in the house.

Anyway, Peppe & Emika have been a cool addition to the show. They've brought out new sides of the other members & things are getting lively again.

No words for how beautiful this is. 2 episodes in and I'm already shedding tears. Masterful direction by Kim Jin Won - and a superb performance by entire cast (and just wait until Jang Hyuk's character gets introduced!). An early call but this is my runner up for best drama of the year along with "The Crowned Clown".

I definitely agree, and it gets even more tiring when they bring in 18/19 year olds straight out of high school…
Hey, super late reply but yeah I'm with you. The new season is looking great though, hope it keeps up! :)

It's going to be a waste. The narrative lacks the two most important things to be a good story: motives and exposition.…
Interesting comment, but I deem it too early to make the call "it's going to be a waste" when you're only 2-4eps in.. Part of what makes this drama interesting is that it relies on showing rather than telling. You'll find hints of the characters motivations and goals as the narrative develops (rather than a standard 4 episode backstory that plagues too many dramas IMO). This of course requires us as viewers to tune in and engage with the show on a more attentive level, but I like that. The scene where Jang Tae Joon met his father and we learned of his family tribulations (as well as the flashbacks to him working as a police) were great examples of short yet effective scenes— lending an eye into where he came from and why he holds his current worldviews and goals.

High quality stuff! Probably my fav this year after "The Crowned Clown." Few PD's like Kwak Jung Hwan in the industry - always a joy to watch his dramas. And loving Lee Jung Jae & Shin Min Ah as a couple! Hope things work out for them after the ep 4 reveal.
