I think Taglish is natural in Manila, though you may be right that English may be seen as a language of higher…
Thanks for your message. It's always good to learn more about...well, anything. :) Being an insulated American, of course I know ONE language, English. I come from German immigrants on both sides of the family, but that was back when migrants were eager to assimilate and blend in so I didn't hear German spoken, even by my grandparents. But they were kids in the early and mid twentieth-century here, when the LAST thing you wanted was to identify with war-mongering Germany. I am now curious to know though, if among my grandparents, when they were home alone, they might have switched back and forth as they came to know English. I would guess so.
Taglish and Spanglish, however, are the first I've heard of two languages being spoken concurrently as a sort of THIRD language of its own. Especially since the hybrid language has very few if any rules, being as individual as the speaker who uses it.
great write up on the characters and agree with everything you said! it just feels wrong to write BS's character…
Yup. Shows are so much more interesting and effecting when the humanity and brokeness of the "bad" character is acknowledged and explained as well as it was in this show. BS never had a chance to NOT be a mess, just look at his background. For me, knowing WHY a character like him does what he does and perceives things the way he does adds another deep layer of emotion and heartbreak to the tale. And SE trying so hard, all the way through the ending, to understand and somehow reach BS's heart, was just incredibly touching. He had every EXCUSE, which most people such as commenters here are all too eager to take, to demonize BS as "evil" in a black-and-white fantasy world, but his inherent, emotional intelligence and compassion still compelled him to forgive. All those complications and shades of gray are what I live for in drama. Black and white characters are for simple-minded people who don't want to be bothered to use their brains or hearts.
Nearly flawless theft/murder comedy-noir. This is precisely the sort of thing only the Koreans and sometimes the Japanese seem able to do that has made me over from someone with zero interest in thrillers to someone who always at least checks out such flicks from these two countries.
Just almost perfect. Horrifying, fascinating, thrilling, amusing, even touching...only Koreans can do this shit right. 7.7? You people are crazy.
This is one of my favorite, though devastating/heartbreaking dramas. I watched it a couple years back and have yet to rewatch because I was so torn up by it the first time around. In a good way, of course. Just finished a second watch of "One Way Trip," which made a huge impression on me the first time I saw it, but only now am I figuring out that the lead actor in both is Kim Ji Soo. He carried OWT, just as he carried Amanza, and I will now hunt down more of this great young actor's work. I hope Korea's self-righteous/psycho-vindictive public gets off his back when he's out of national service so he can get back to doing more outstanding dramas and films.
Really excellent film. Great acting, direction, cinematography, writing. Highly recommended. But this is not a fun and zany, teen beach trip movie. Not even a little bit.
I don't get what legitimate debate there could be over what is the "right" thing to do. The question is would you DO the right thing under these circumstances, the worst of which is that no one else in this story, least of all the authority figures, ie. parents, cops, influential/powerful business people, etc. is willing to do the right thing. I wanted to strangle that anchorwoman. To end the lives of four young men who tried to save your life, or at least save you from a severe beating, because you're worried about your career and image? omg, she's the worst person in this appalling story.
I don't trust or respect cops for my own very good reasons, and this kind of thing goes down all over the world every day.
Nothing bad happened at university, their mom died and he dropped out to help care for his brother, or that's…
Oh. Well, that's boring. I'll hold out hope for some big problem at university. It's funny that girl showed up to tell him to come back to school, without offering a solution to his family situation. Is she going to stay and baby-sit for him? That little boy is so adorable I wouldn't be able to leave him behind and go back either. Maybe there's a community college in that little town? lol
Pietro totally deserves his own BL. I like that the characters know they’re gay and we don’t have to sit through…
Fair enough. I'll keep watching too, probably because it's so short and I'm curious as to how this messed-up plot attempts to resolve itself. Sort of a semi hate-watch.🤪🤪🤪
I agree completely about Korean BLs starting to suck, taking the easy, cheap route of pretending the entire audience…
TMS2: The chef had no motivations for his behavior. The writers made him into a cruel, psycho-depressive who abandoned, then treated his lover like shit for no reason other than that's what the script called for. Then after eight episodes or whatever of psychotic-depressive cruelty and hatefulness, he did a 180 and all was well because he saw some old texts he missed. wtf? Garbage posing as art and worse, it suggested severe depression/anxiety/relationship issues can be fixed with a hug.
"... pretty much every male is gay"Pretty much everyone identifies as "straight" in "straight" stories. Why wouldn't…
This reads as some kind of melodramatic ode to living in and viewing only gay fantasy-world live ficitional pieces, which may be your thing but it's not mine. I don't need to "take refuge" in embarrassingly amateur-hour trope-fests like this to escape my life. There are infinite shades of gray between black and white, or all-straight and all-gay. And those shades are a lot more interesting than this sad silliness.
Furthermore, this type of thing is about all Thailand pumps out now at the rate of two or more per week. I don't need Korea to follow suit.

I don't mean to imply all the main characters need to be "straight" either. A mix is fine by me. Every plot known to man has been "done to death" at this point but there are stili millions of fresh ways to tell a story, focusing on the HOW you tell the story, and the details of each character. I find coming-out stories, or those about recognizing and eventually embracing one's sexuality, be it bisexual or gay, extremely compelling because that was my own journey. I just didn't do it at as young an age as most BL characters. I wish I had though.
Every "two gay men meet, butt heads, then fall in love" journey has been "done to death" too, but that doesn't stop more and more BLs from repeating that story over and over with few variations. This one is repeating every freaking trope in the BL playbook. Why doesn't that bore you? Do you really think this is a "good" story? How is it not a tired repeat of the new BL formula? Nothing about how Haram is conducting himself in a professional workplace is the least bit believable, especially aggressively coming on to the "boss" from the get-go.
To me it's like a ridiculous straight rom-com with gay characters substituted for the straight ones.
I can honestly say I'm willing to give it another chance, but I need an official statement about that ladies make-up…
Seriously, my head jerked back when I first saw her. Then I thought "OK, it has something to do with the shoot and she's and actor." Nooo, that wasn't it. lol How could everyone on the set of this show not see how bad that makeup was? Did she herself not look in a mirror before reporting to the set? ugh
This is another step for getting lawer degree of ridiculous series, it's combine all the trops all together ,…
I agree completely about Korean BLs starting to suck, taking the easy, cheap route of pretending the entire audience wants juvenile fluff like this. I hope they don't wreck what had begun to look like a good thing.

Just me, but when everybody is already gay it's boring. It's also not really a BL. It's a K-drama about gay men, as these aren't "boys" either. On the other hand, they certainly don't ACT like grown men in a real workplace. I laughed out loud when that 14 year-old girl said she was divorced.

9.5/10 Highly recommended.
