the characterizations of the leads are, same as others in the drama, defined by the director,so instead of criticising…
i'm so sad seeing people's critizing liang jie's acting skills saying she's like a teenager, always shaking, and a crybaby. like, say that, but don't say you have a problem with her acting. she did what the script told her, that's not her issue in any way.

as a viewer, i adore song ran a lot. she's simple-minded, very genuine, and shy. it feels unfortunate that her character is misunderstood by some of the viewers. she isn't a senior journalist so skill-wise she isn't very stand out TV reporter. it's also mentioned by her seniors and her mom that what she does isn't something grand. also, a lot of people say that she's always following li zan everywhere. well, it's given that she needs to be close to the military to gain information, and it happens to be li zan's whereabout. and as far as i notice, she isn't always around li zan 24 hours a day, but somehow their path always crosses each other. about her character, she isn't the bold type, so seeing her crying and easily scared is actually expected. even li zan notices it. i think, in approaching song ran, we should be li zan. li zan notices song ran's deepest nature—brave, and compassionate.

regarding the romance plot, i have nothing to say. it's a romance drama and the war arc isn't for the whole drama to go with, so i don't have anything to comment about. it's quite realistic too. song ran fell in love with li zan who saved her in near death situation in such a gentle way. i mean, who wouldn't? li zan is such a wonderful person, if i were song ran i'd act and do the same. while li zan, as an observant person, happens to notice the delicate side of her. they're at the same place, their path crossed, encounter dangerous situations together, and talk about deep topics. it's natural that they bond and find each other charming.

it's only episode 8, so don't be so harsh in making a conclusion out of 38 episode drama. let's wait and see. if you don't find the actors suit the characters, or the story is a meh, better find something else to watch instead of leaving rude comments that purely based on your taste. everyone works hard for a project, if it doesn't suit your taste, maybe this isn't for you.

p.s: i don't really like the directing style, but the acting and story is pretty decent. everyone has chemistry with each other, especially the leads. liang jie and zheyuan are doing great with the acting as song ran and li zian. you just need to pay close attention when watching to notice how amazing they are.

If you start watching this drama expecting it to be a case-study on war and its after effects on a population,…
this comment should be pinned at the top of the comment section because people can't catch the main point of this drama.

Title The White Olive Tree Spoiler
and then they just start playing a heartbroken song and try to make me feel sad about something which wasn't even…
i think it's an accumulation of things happened on that day. song ran argued with her mom about job, place to live, then lost the reporter of the year although she worked hard in the battlefield (she wasn't going for it but a little bit disappointed ig), and later found out the guy she was searching for actually her senior's boyfriend. the way i percieve it that it was an overwhelming feeling on her and seeing li zan being introduced as someone's boyfriend was the last straw.
