I don't usually write a lot but there's just some stuff I wanna get off my chest about the age difference controversy.
First of all when the show's pilot was released I thought alright, not a huge age difference so the characters' maturity is probably similar. But in the first few episodes it was made clear that Heedo has a very bright, innocent, child-like energy. I'm not sure whether her real age accounts to 16 or 17 but regardless, she met Yijin during her 2nd year of high school.
Yijin on the other hand was shown as a mature, calm, collected character. As the show progressed, I think we realized he grew up as a very happy and upright child but had to suddenly grow up & take huge responsibilities due to his abrupt family situation. So he missed out on the fun days of his early 20s, only to find that pure, simple side through Heedo again.
Now Heedo definitely has her mature moments in the show, but I'd say 85% of the time she has very childish actions and reactions. The interesting thing is Yijin always takes her words and actions seriously, even if he makes fun of her silliness sometimes. He also deeply cares for all her worries and feelings.
Now in the first episodes the dynamic seemed like an adult watching & scolding a high schooler, but for me Yijin now looks more like young boy in adult clothes trying to make mature choices. That also makes an "interesting" picture whenever Yijin hangs out with 4 high schoolers. (like last nights episode... incredibly beautiful scenes tho)
These two have a very very interesting dynamic that I loved to watch so far, but I must say I'm disappointed with the confession scene. I also don't think that was something Yijin's character would do? I just wish the writer would leave their relationship as Heedo's "rainbow" analogy for now, and wait for Heedo to fully figure out her feelings and take the first step as time goes by. Their bond so far has shown growth, support and something deeper than simply just romantic love.
My take might be wrong, I'm open to all kinds of opinions. Also I'm so scared to keep watching this show lol I know something bad is coming and its gonna hurt my feelings😑😑😑
I assumed people would find it hard to follow crime/thriller and political dramas but I'm surprised to see a lot of romcoms in this list too. it makes sense though most of the time kdrama love stories feel sooo draggy around ep 10-12 so i skip to the final ep 🤦♀️ or I think new kdrama fans usually jump to these famous dramas with huuuge expectations but meet with clichés instead. I personally would add historical dramas to this list lol. sad to see Vincenzo so high tho, took me 2 episodes to get into it as well but its so good!!! 😳
this show is sooo crazy lmao its literally terrible and scripted but u still keep wondering what's about to happen. it's best not to take anyone/anything on this show too seriously (very problematic on all levels). i literally hate-binged it last night after becoming a dating show addict...
your article was so well written it made me binge-watch this show in 2 days lol THANK YOU!!! I've literally cried over how SWEET this couple was. the actors and their chemistry played a big part as well.
It seems to be pretty typical for these genres. Considering that this is a manga adaptation, I wasn't surprised…
righttt I mean I'm not surprised at japanese/asian shows being sexist & to be fair I'm not super familiar with this genre but I still expected better since its netflix (and the fact that we're living in 2020s now) it's just disappointing that all those producers & director didnt see a problem with how they portrayed women & will probably keep it this way for the 2nd season as well :/
this is like a fun & thrilling binge-watch on a weekend type of show if you let the cringe and some missed details slide but... I was rly bothered by the pointless over-sexualization of women??? whats up with that???
i binge watched all seasons and i think this one was my favorite. everyone was SO in their element: mino as THE maknae he was super playful and his airhead persona was so funny, jaehyun+kyuhyun bromance, kyuhyun's pre-enlistment depression and love for alcohol, hodong with his "swag" phase and blonde hair lol. also have to mention my man jiwon looked super hot here. a lot of legendary scenes starting with that haircut, songfinger, ost quiz, movie quiz, piccolo cosplay, messy mafia game, train ride... i wanna delete this season from my memory so i can watch it again for the first time tbh
this is more high quality than i expected and funny for sure but (barely) 20 minutes a week is so annoying maybe its best to wait until its over. main romance is also annoying give us more episodes and more kyungwoo!! kyungwoo swearing and love line in particular. haven't read the webtoon so i'm interested in how this goes
this drama gives me so much joy lol i like all characters & their stories. haven't seen a mature drama that is light hearted and non-judgemental in a while.
been postponing this since it was airing... years later just finished 2nd episode it was so good that i'm scared to see if the rest of it can get better than this LOL it made me laugh & cry in the span of 5 seconds. i think it's gonna be the perfect drama for quarantine
thanks for this article! will watch unnatural soon. i also saw "nagi no oitoma" during this time and it was great, recommended if u like piece of life - trying to find myself again type of dramas. btw what's the name of the drama in the gifs?
all episodes follow a similar pattern, a little comedy, action and heart-warming stories but it quickly becomes…
finished it today and i'm glad they picked up the pace after ep 11. last episodes were very action-filled with a bunch of plot twists and revelations. still think this drama could've been a lot better but i'm not as mad as i was in the comment before lol
all episodes follow a similar pattern, a little comedy, action and heart-warming stories but it quickly becomes cliche and repetitive. i forced myself to watch until ep 11 but i think i'll fast forward it to the final. on the bright side i was happy this drama touched on subjects such as gender equality, sexual harassment, hidden camera, abusive relationship etc. it fails as a crime/investigation drama (so many mistakes and lack of reality) it also fails as a romance for me personally. kim sun ho's dimples are to die for tho.
psj's acting and the cinematography together makes me feel like i'm watching a movie instead of a drama at times (that prison glass two shot and his expression like. wow) also his crying really made me tear up man... haven't read the webtoon so for me the story had some cliches in the first two eps but i'm rly looking forward to see more. and i NEED that kim feel ost to be released asap
