I'm not gen z, and I'm not trying to cancel anyone. How stupid can it be to want to cancel a fictional character? To cancel anyone or anything at all. I still listen to Noir Désir, I still watch Kevin Spacey, Woody Allen, Roman Polanski's movies. I frankly don't give a damn.

Have I said the show should be banned? Have I written that the character is "a bad influence" for the viewers (LOL)? I said I will keep enjoying it, as I enjoy watching any kind of media, without looking for moral inputs or lectures.

The point was: is the character's behaviour toxic? (if you don't like the word you can change it with another of your liking - is "dysfunctional" good enough for you?)
The answer is yes, absolutely.
Do people like this in real life exist and should you avoid them?
Yes, in my personal opinion you should.
Do I think if the characters don't behave like I would then they are wrong?
You won't hear me saying such bullshit in a million years.
Will I stop watching? Not at all.

About the real life comment, this is what I said:

Meaning that in real life people with issues like Watarai don't change their mindset without proper professional intervention (therapy).

Yes, sure, you can try. While you're at it you can include a suggestion to go into therapy. THAT may work. Because I guess you know that things like possessiveness, need for control, pathologic jealousy and abandonment issues can't be solved with a simple talk. (still talking about a real life scenario here, not the fictional character - just to be clear)

Right? I’m used to watching toxic and dark romance BLs, and I enjoy myself very much watching them. I know what I get myself into and I have no problem accepting them as fictional characters.
But this is too close to reality not to feel the creeps.

And this right here is the ultimate red flag we're warned about.
Forget Lu Feng, Fan Xiao and every other toxic character who are so over the top they end up being laughable caricatures.

This one here is the real deal, the one you really have to beware of in real life.
They start with the love bombing, and then:
"You can't talk to anyone"
"You can't appear on social media because I'm afraid others will take a like on you"
"You are my boyfriend so I can do anything I want to you"
"It's your fault I'm insecure because you don't make me feel loved enough"

And everybody finds it funny.
Until it's not.

So. Keep enjoying the show, as will I, but keep in mind that if your boyfriend/girlfriend behaves like this, you have to run away as fast as you can, as soon as you can.

I loved these three episodes we were gifted, a Perfect conclusion to a Perfect art work.

Well, considering that they are basically strangers to each other and they don't run the risk of having sick kids, I wouldn't be opposed even if they were actually blood related. But the point is that they are not, and I cannot see how that's so hard to comprehend.

I'm speculating here, but that van was very conspicuous and Kataoka's question was too specific to be casual. He even chose to walk instead of getting in the car. This screams intentional to me.

Oh my god, people, get a grip! They're not brothers. Repeat for those in the back: THEY'RE NOT BROTHERS FFS!! They're not even stepbrothers. They have no parent in common, they're not related in any way, they never met, they didn't even know of each other's existence until a few weeks before. Can we move on from this? I'm so happy they gifted us with a second season. And I'm happy Kataoka's tattoo underwent a restyling, for the one they painted on his back in the first season was just un ugly mess of black smudges. I have a knack for Japanese style tattoos, so I found it a bit underwhelming that such a charismatic character had a disappointing tattoo on his back.

I just rewatched the first season because I didn't want to go into the second with faint memories of what had happened and I'm glad I did. I even raised my rating for the first season because watching all the episodes back to back gave a more wholesome vision of characters and story. And I must say the start of this new season is totally promising.

Aaaand my suspension of disbelief is gone, replaced by a blaring bullshit detector. I'll pretend this particular plot turn did not happen.

Well, the guy playing as the double was indeed very lucky to be the chosen one 😅.

Lol, I love this series, but I have to admit you are so on point with every single point you made. Why are Korean stories so invested in the "poor orphan whose dead parents left him an absurd money debt that he can only repay by turning to a loan shark (provided that the debt does not have to be repaid directly to the loan shark himself)" plot line? Are there never relatives, social workers, welfare assistance, nothing? And why are the grandmas always lying in a hospital bed that costs like a luxury resort for an undefined period of time with an undefined disease? I just hope this is a between the lines free healthcare campaign.

Thank you. Of course, should they decide to make a second season (which I honestly wish), I will be ready to take back everything I've said and reconsider.

I gave it some time and gathered my thoughts before deciding on my final verdict on this series.
Like many of you, I was disappointed by the ending and the lack of satisfactory answers that might have made the structure of this fantasy world easier to understand. It’s fascinating, but it needs to be understood.

Then I realised what the problem was.
The problem is that we’re all aware the series is a self-contained story and there won’t be a second season.
Let me explain.
Take, for example, some western series centered on mystery and the supernatural. I’m thinking of *Stranger Things*, to name the most famous one. There too, at the end of the first season, there were loads of unanswered questions and loose ends, but we were all aware that there would be a second season (and then a third, fourth, fifth – lol) to tie everything up.
It therefore became more acceptable that not everything was resolved by the end of the first season, because we perceived it, from the perspective of the complete work, as just one part of the whole.
Here, however, we’re talking about a series that is narratively complete in a single season, with no hope of a sequel to re-establish the rules of a fantasy world that is unknown to us.

Imo this changes drastically the final perception of the story telling, causing it to drop and leaving us unsatisfied.

I liked it a lot, the acting was extremely good. The plot was sometimes quite weak, but I could skip the weak parts because of the main couple’s good acting. There is one thing though that I need explained and can’t let go. Who/what was lying in that bed? Help me preserve my suspension of disbelief because right now I’m having a hard time

Because it is bad! 😀 But it's one of those "so bad it's good" sort of shows. And the comments section on MDL is worth watching it.
