Because there is a viewership demographic for these types of storylines in this era. This is especially the case for the short-length-series (where they can get away with more toxic storylines) so I wouldn't be expecting anything different from this niche.

What the heck has happened??? Didn't catch up to end but episode 19 was spectacular but too bad it was all illusion.
Those Xiang Liu fans are really toxic, you don't like Jing and you want to force everyone to like Xiang Liu? Keep on day dreaming. Everyone is entitled to his opinion yet here you're bashing everyone who's in love with Tushan Jing character. Your attitudes define who tf you're, keep it up.
An overall enjoyable drama. However, I can't help but feel that there are missing pivotal moments/scenes throughout the latter half of the drama. And it's weird how we did not get much scenes with regards to XY's and TSJ's reunion, wedding and afterwards. After the pain, the suffering, the longing and final reunion, more time with them was needed.
As for CX, sigh. "Heavy is the head that wears the crown." The very thing he wanted to obtain to protect the one he loves, is the very thing that keeps them apart in the end.
Regarding XL, I have such mixed feelings for this character. It's very hard to find a character that from the get go was shown to be cruel, abusive, violent to be anything other than someone to keep a distance from. The drama did its best to make him into a sympathetic character, for some viewers it worked, for others, not so much. He's a character I just SMH at when I think about. Dying for a needless and pointless cause. Sure he is a complex character, okay, but which one of them isn't? Never been a fan of glorifying toxicity, and trying to hand wave it as romantic. This is what his character represents to me.
One thing I am glad the drama highlights is loving and choosing the right person, and that it didn't go down the contrived "bad boy" path. Each of the 3 main male leads loved XY in their own way, but only one of them was right for her, and exactly what she needed. A man who didn't take her as a pawn, didn't take her for granted, put her first, cherished her, and made it clear. He helped to heal her jaded heart, and nurtured her love while allowing her to be able to be vulnerable without always being on guard. He saw her, understood her, and was willing to accompany her anywhere. And that's what she found in TSJ. TSJ with his quiet strength. Misunderstood and devalued by those who only look for superficial qualities. He was willing to always show compassion even to those who had cruelly harmed and betrayed him. Anyone who has ever been betrayed, knows that it takes an immense amount of strength not to retaliate and take revenge against someone who has harmed you. It is much easier to be vengeful, to retaliate, or hold a grudge than it is to forgive someone who wasn't even sorry for betraying you to begin with. So to be able to do so says a lot about that person.
If a director's cut was to ever be released with all the missing scenes, I would watch it again.
