All the males who have ever portrayed Domyjoji Tsukasa have been doing a splendid job, simply terrific because they used their own styles and flavors for the character while maintaining the original substance.
The movie adaption from 1995 was made when the manga wasn`t even halfway through finished and made it into a simple romantic comedy movie instead. We get Tanihara Shosuke portraying Tsukasa and doing a good darn well job while he is at it with the material given to him. Despie his character portrayal lacking the depth (cuz the movie was pure comedy), the actor really brought on the charisma that is Domyjoji Tsukasa.
Some people doesn`t understand how truly popular the taiwanese version of Meteor Garden was in the early 2000s. It was literally a culture shock throughout whole Asia. Jerry Yan`s portrayal of the Tsukasa character is wild, dark and very veryyyyy sexy! Jerry still manages to show the intense loneliness and vulnerability of the Tsukasa character through his glass shiny eyes. Everytime he looked at his female lead, we could see and sense his deep longing and need for her. Ahhhh this version made me cry so much. The scene where his character breaks down in tears over losing his female lead and his F4 friends comforting him, still breaks my heart to this day.
The japanese drama version of Boys over Flowers from 2005 was just needed at the right time and Matsumoto Jun literally owned the role of Tsukasa! His stance, his cold looks, his barbaric tendencies in lashing out and his need to punish everyone around him- the violent essence of Tsukasa was high-lighted and he is this dark avenging devil like character you can`t help but be intrigued by. Matsumoto showed off ALL THE LAYERS of Tsukasa character in his portrayal, it just amazes so many viewers to this day.
Many people grew up during the korean version of Boys over Flowers, and it has become a hit amongst all the hits and it stars the lover boy Lee Min Ho who created his own version of Tsukasa in the also iconic Goo Jun Pyo. You can really sense the bored brat persona in his character at the early start and Min Ho does that so well! But he still stayed so true to the core essence of Tsukasa in many incedible ways (and me being a big fan of the manga) like there were many great moments where i felt Tsukasa in him. It was in his darkest moments, at his lowest point...everytime his female lead hurt him. I always said: "Ah Tsukasa! Its you" I feel you" because these feelings resembled so much for me like in the manga.
The chinese version Meteor Garden that came out in 2018 is also the longest running version of 50 episodes so they had a lot to explore. Dylan Wang`s portrayal of the Tsukasa character is very beloved and no female can resist his irresistible smile that lights up his whole face! Despite having all the information of the Tsukasa character he also still managed to make his own awesome version of him. You could feel the deep rooted arrogance but also the stark blinding rage and pain inside him. Though, i love all the moments he teased his female lead to get closer to her, he have many of these precious moments with her.
Thailand`s version of Boys over Flowers was to be expected and the actor chosen to portray the Tsukasa character was none other than Bright Vachirawit who came on board with a lot of pressure on his back. Tsukasa may be a very iconic character, but he is also very controversial. It is a character to be handled with care and lots of effort. Bright did just that. And it came off magnificient. Bright`s version of Tsukasa is a beautiful beast destined to transform. His character gets the curse from the former versions of Tsukasa(and the manga) which is his awful violent side that only ever will destroy him and everyone around him. He hates his curse the moment he learns about his female lead. Bright managed to show off so many layers of this character in every episode, he managed to make us root for his broken soul, to give him a chance. His eyes always tells us viewers: "Love me, please love me. At least try. At least give me that". The same with the manga.
His character will always stay iconic and unforgettable. I look forward to see who will portray him next.
