Zhang Ling He got less screentime than SML in The Princess Royal, I remember FL and SML got around similar percentage of screentime. And he's running away most of the time in Our Generation so he got less screentime there too, but still second highest I think (or not? I think SFL and SML got quite a lot of screentime). Cheng Yi mostly acted in male centric drama, so he dominated the dramas. Yang Yang eh, I don't think so. He will at least get the same screentime as FL.
Xu Kai is always in the dramas that's focusing on the females. The Legends (Zhao Yao), She and Her Perfect Husband, Best Choice Ever (Mai Cheng Huan), and As Beautiful As You's main characters are the females. In Story of Yanxi Palace, he's the SML.
But isn't it all depending on the director? Which scenes are more important for the storyline and which scenes need to be cut down.
When it comes to high school stories, no country can match the People’s Republic of China. I’ve watched countless school dramas since childhood, and China still stands as number one in portraying coming-of-age stories. Across every genre, they always seem to have something profound to tell—though they rarely go beyond the 1980s (obvious reason) in real-time settings. From the 80s onward, each story feels like a gem, one after another. Of course, not every series is of the same caliber, but the ones I’ve chosen to watch are truly exceptional.
This current series reminded me of one of the best Chinese thrillers in the school genre, Shining for One Thing (also listed among the recommendations). Both series are alike yet different: each depicts a love so silent and selfless that one is willing to sacrifice everything—again and again, without hesitation—for the person they cherish.
There's a scene in ep 11 where he's sitting by her in the hospital holding her hand saying "can you hear me" and crying.... and gotdang I think that's some of the best acting I've ever seen from Luo Zheng.
