Some people are being overly sensitive about age gaps, and the real life ages of the FL and the ML.
If it bothers you so much, then don't watch the drama.
There are no laws being broken here, and no one is being forced. The actors willingly signed up to do the drama, and they are just acting.
Age gap is no big deal in a relationship if the couple themselves are okay with it, anything else is just age discrimination.
They even poked fun at the age gap in the drama in episode 11 at 15.30.
Where the FL says if ML wears the black robes, he'll look 10 years older and people might mistake him for her father, or think she married him just for his money.
Zhang Jun Ning, the ML is one of my favourite actors. He works really hard and deserves more lead roles.
Other actors that are 40 and over 40 are playing 20 year olds, despite Zhang Jun Ning's real age, he still looks youthful.
On his weibo, you can see, Zhang Jun Ning, has was been working really hard in the gym.
His body is real, he does not use body doubles, fake silicone body suits or CGI.
He has been working hard for many years in multiple dramas, and on himself too, and he does not deserve to be discriminated against due to his real age.

But atleast I wouldn't have felt that bad when I'll see that this drama is getting Korean version Thai or Japanese version... But nahhh!!! You're remaking it in it's original language??.... Why they had to waste money??? Where they might had used those money for Hidden Love season 2 if it's possible or Wifty where you might had shown what happened after su zai zai and zhang lurang has kid... Youku lost it... Literally... They literally wasted our time in "The first frost" By adding that grandpa's illness.... Like I know you want us to know that *Even if we're old we should never forget our love for the person we love* I know... But I watched "The first frost" for Sang yan and wen yifan.... I didn't asked you to give me a story of a grandpa or to change Sang zhi and Duan jiaxu.... Youku did it once I tolerated it... But it's twice now..... Do you really think?? We'll love any other actors as real "Sang zhi and Duan jiaxu"????..... I respect the author.... But whoever idea is it...please don't do it 😭🙏

I was writing that long review earlier when I saw the drama’s hashtags and noticed the #agegap tag. I thought, “Wait, how big is their age gap anyway?” I assumed maybe 8 to 10 years at most… and then I found out the actor who plays Gu Yuan is 40 years old. I was genuinely shocked 😭 like?? He doesn’t look 40 at all in the drama—his chemistry with Bao Shangen felt so natural and seamless, I didn’t even think about the age gap.........
But anyway Bao Shangen is 23 and totally legal so it’s not a big deal. I was just a little caught off guard 😭👍🏻
Aren’t we getting enough rom-coms these days? It honestly baffles me how people rate a drama low just because it’s not a light, fluffy rom-com. This drama is heavy, yes.... but it beautifully captures the reality of many Asian families. I can genuinely understand what each character is going through, even the mother.
For me, this drama is perfect. It’s a breath of fresh air. It’s not your typical love story, and that’s exactly why I’m enjoying it so much. It’s been a while since I felt this connected to a modern drama.

So far I am loving this drama, sometimes there is too much comedy involving the side characters, but the main leads and their chemistry is great.
