nani is SO fine, i love the undercover police plot. honestly i’d kill for a series where nani actually does possess some sort of magic because he just looked too good casting spells.
episode two far exceeded episode one. the rating should be much higher imo, in episode two we truly got to see winnysatang’s charm as a cp. winnysatang are genuine naturals when it comes to a stubborn ‘enemies to lovers’ dynamic, they were truly made for the roles of lava and wave. something i absolutely adore is seeing wave assert his ‘authority’ against lava, he tells him to do things for him completely unbeknownst to his true identity. satang’s acting has been truly phenomenal in two episodes alone so i cannot wait to see what else he has in store for us. lava on the other hand, we’re finally gaining a further understanding of his character, he’s a misunderstood inherently green flag imo (or maybe i’m just a HUGE winny fan with clouded judgement lol). it’s clear that the series has some gorgeous cinematography and directorial decisions. one of the biggest things for me is the idea that it has this purposefully ‘reminiscent’ feel to it. it almost feels as though we’re watching lava and wave’s first meeting and their falling in love which has already occured and we’re simply looking back on ‘that summer’, the best comparisons to make here would be that of call me by your name or twenty five twenty one. it’s seemingly the perfect blend between modern and ‘vintage’ with small details like wave listening to music on the walkman cd player, the vintage truck and even them shopping at the vintage store.
however my fave fave FAVE scene has got to be the cheesiness of mawin’s maths problem for err having the solution of ‘you can do it’. i loved this so much.
aside from seakeen being completely perfect, this short installation is genuinely one of the best shot series of gmmtv this year imo. truly cinematic. two of my most memorable scene directions are the one at the end of ep 1 where err was studying and mawin switched off the lights to err’s frustrations, and the final ep where they yelled at one another and then took synchronised drinks of their coffee. i felt such genuine happiness for mawin in the final episode where he chased his own dreams and made his own friends.
