I noticed in this drama they turned down the male lead "trashy" character. For example, in the original Taiwanese version, the ML actually wanted the FL to have an abortion but when she was almost about to have it in the hospital, he decided he wanted the child. But in this drama the ML didn't want her to get the abortion from the start. I guess in this day and age and especially today's social climate, it's not a good idea to portray the male leads as overly trashy haha

I think this drama is enjoyable so far but my one problem w/ this drama is that in the original Taiwanese version the female lead character (Joe Chen) is a kind-heart person but has no fashion sense. She looks so ordinary like someone you can bully easily. For Liang Jie style in the drama, I like the pigtails and big glasses but her clothes in this drama even before she had her transformation, look a bit too fashionable than the character should be. It kinda takes me out of her character. But that's just a little picky on my part haha it's still really enjoyable so far :)))

In the original Taiwanese version her character actually doesn't interfere that much on the main lead relationship. Its not as crazy as most dramas these days. Her character is relatively nice.

Finally someone made a HK related article ! I love Hana Kuk songs and Kayee Tam's Can You Hear :)))

I know how you feel thats the one of the problems of c-dramas these days but the story for this one is so well told and the characters have a lot depth it's worth your time :)))

She's the best! One of the things I LOVED about Yanxi Palace was that they didn't make the Empress as a cruel and jealous person like most palace dramas which was so refreshing :)))

I liked the FL character too b/c she not another Mary Sue like most palace dramas but she use her wits and has that don't mess with me or I'll mess with you personality that is rare in dramaland these days.

Yeah it made me sad too espically when I read what the Emperor wrote to her: ""Every autumn, I can’t help but cry when I pay homage to you. I am ageing and I don’t wish to live till a hundred-year-old. It’s comforting to know that we will be reunited in less than twenty years."
