"after spending 50 years to recreate the spiritual realm, he got his happy ending with the people he loved and also RLZ." this is what makes it a sad ending for me! my own understanding of the drama ending, all the things that happened wasn't even real but a long dream he had when he got into a car accident. the memories, the people—ruan, they're all fake. because if the game really did exist outside his mind, why did zaozao, mengyu, chenfie and others have completely different lives? if they just didn't just recognize lingling bc their memory got erased, i would understand, but they also had opposite lives from lingling's pov. the people who died in the game were also actually alive irl so that doesn't make sense if the game did exist. so i guess everything was fake and lingling held on to that fake memories to recreate the fake people he loved in his dream 😭 at least all those people had a real version but ruan really was just 100% fragment of his imagination. i can't taste the sweet in bittersweet.

it's literally happy ending for everyone except for him! they showed the rest of the characters lived normal lives even his bff had a cute grandchild while he got stuck in VR world till his last remaining years. that's so sad 😭
