ok, so i almost dropped this at episode 21. i felt discouraged and a little tired from the story and the pacing, but after taking a break for a few days, i finished the rest of the episodes today and i’m glad i did. it’s not romance heavy, not even towards the end, and i blame that entirely on the way the FL was written. there was so much potential here and i wish at the very least they could have explored that part of their releationship more. overall i’d rate this 8/10 - the revenge was executed well and even some characters were redeemed at the end.
with 40 episodes i was really expecting some drawbacks but the drama is written way too well. the cast were absolutely amazing and the romance top tier. commuincation is the key and it unlocked many, many doors. hua zhi and yanxi supported each other with no hesitation or fear from the very moment they met. no misunderstandings or outsiders influence required. healthiest relationship, period. 9.5/10.
watched this randomly and didn't realise they casted YX and LX together once again! a delightful surprise, since go go squid was one of my first cdramas. what wasn't great was realising there's a season 2 after i reached episode 30 and the romance was barely picking up 😂 i suppose we’ll just have to wait. the drama itself isn't a wow for me, definitely not a 10 — but every episode was interesting and there was barely any time to lose interest. woman empowerment, with women supporting each other and a great male lead who supports FL. their romance was subtle, so i can only hope season 2 we’ll see it develop better. i didn't mind the ending and even the newest character in the house, but this also really depends on what they do next. rated 8/10.
ditto. hidden love was good but I can't help but feel the cringe factor because of the age difference in the beginning.
my biggest issue was the one they casted as the 14 year old who looked like she was 8 along with her classmates which was just weird to me. when lusi came it was better, but that image didn't totally disappear, you know? its why i couldn't rate it a perfect 10. they could have cast lusi for all versions but they made it creepy with the little girl at the start. it was a one-sided crush so i could have overlooked that age gap otherwise. still had secondhand embarrassment but that 8 year old kid wouldn't be there
Im on ep 6 and im hesitating whether to continue this drama or not too!!!. Im honestly just soo annoyed at hanyan…
really worried because i really don't want to drop this but it’s not sounding good 😬 for now I'll try to watch some other dramas before trying it one more time then
It's better to stop because that was what I felt after finishing it. As the series goes on it was more and more…
this scares me 😂 i’m trying to not drop dramas this year but this one is tiring… for now just trying to watch other historical dramas before going back to this
OK, let me try to convince you 🤣. If you're already upto episode 21, you've come a long way, don't give up…
that's something I try to remind myself, I've gone through the mother’s arc and come this far so there can only be solutions now, right? 😂 thanks for commenting, if nothing else, at least i will try to finish this. ofc there are comments saying not to so i’m still not sure, i’ll watch a few other dramas in the mean time and hopefully that'll change my mindset before trying again

i honestly loved the starting episodes because there were some satisfying results afterwards but after episode 20, i’m just a little exhausted now. i’m not sure if the sister will ever change but if she does it will be now, around episode 21 so you have a long way to go if you continue 😂
This story was messy and confusing and I really hope she didn't marry her freaking brother. It would have been different if they hadn't grown up together as siblings from infancy and I just don't think you can change feelings to romantic ones like that. I also just really didn't like the female lead? I was truly only here for Zha Lusi and Xu Kai and it wasn't even worth it.
yifan deserves none of the hate she's been getting. i’m surprised this needs to be said. every choice she made was for herself and there is nothing wrong with putting one’s self first. it is not selfish wanting to be free and i can’t bring myself to judge her for it. she deserves to be loved and sang yan is lucky that she gave him that chance. just as she’s lucky that he still loved and waited for her. in the end they have an equal relationship and well, maybe she will live 6 years more than him or maybe in another universe, love him 6 years first. the flawed characters are the best part of this drama because they make it work anyway.
can i say it? i’m going to say it. this is better than hidden love.
no hate at all to hidden love which is a 9/10 for me, but i just liked the plot better here — it was much more serious and engaging and because the stakes were higher, so was the romance. i do wish we had the same cast as hidden love but not for sang yan. BJT is the perfect actor for this role and he played it brilliantly. the chemistry, the story plus the beautiful character development??? it’s the perfect romance. 10/10 rating with no regrets.
overall i enjoyed this drama. maybe not the healthiest of couples, but the Li family was wholesome and loving and i enjoyed how despite everything going on, they really tried to be there for each other. i come from a family with no husbands or sons, so it’s humbling to think about being born during the historical times when having a male in the family was so important. my respect for the women is high and i get why the sisters shouldn't be so violent to their husbands but i also don't care because 1) fictional and 2) it‘s a fun and light drama with over the top comedy 🤭
i loved the third sister and her husband the best but that might be because i adore WXY and their chemistry together was too good! the least interesting couple would be the second sister’s because we really don't know much about them and what we do is kind of whatever?? the most disliked is the first sister’s relationship. largely because i couldn't stand her husband being so stupid?? what was the point really — but to be fair to him, all the husbands have done the same more or less at some point, its just that his problems had the longest screen time and that makes it easier to dislike him. trying not to spoil too much but i do wish we saw more of the ward/adopted daughter relationship, she deserved to have more episodes focused on her but i guess technically she isn't a Li.
in the end i rate the drama 8.5/10, almost perfect but not quite there.
this has been said many, many times before but the teenage jiwons??? absolutely amazing. i adore them so so much. the drama is 12 episodes long but i wish we had 4 episodes more just dedicated to the younger versions and their high school days and after. the flashbacks we got were not enough and the young actors really deserved more screen time. i would have preferred them over the weird dynamic with the second couple. it’s such a shame because i spent most of the drama skipping their scenes and hoping to get more flashbacks to the younger jiwons.
the older versions were not bad perse and while the actor playing the ML was okay, the actress for FL was a questionable choice for me. it could be because the chemistry was a bit less than the younger actors or it could be the simple fact that the older versions were not interesting enough. the reunion i liked well enough and i did love the moments when you could see how much the ML still adored the FL but the storyline in present day was just bland. their past was a lot more fun to explore and i honestly just loved the hospital scenes, i wanted to stay in that time and get to know the characters there. present jiwons did not hold a candle to it.
the nurse story was interesting i suppose but not something i cared overly about in the end because there just wasn’t enough information about it. the second couple were mostly dull and stole screen time that could have been used better - the same for the best friend with the love triangle and how that conclusion came??? well at least she came to her senses and was helpful i suppose. the present students or i guess “the next gen” were not very necessary in my eyes?? i can see they were trying to recreate the jiwon teenage dynamic with two of the students and i can both appreciate and hate it because again??? could have used that time to show more flashbacks instead.
so. rating this 8/10 simply because the young actors who played both jiwons deserve this number. the storyline overall however, is 6.5/10 because like i said, the present was boring as hell.
absolutely adored the first episodes and then episodes 14-15 happened, but i pulled through until episode 20 which is where i draw the line. i expected more character development from the FL but it kept falling short. the ML was considerate and kind and the FL didn’t entirely deserve him in my eyes. i love her as a character and the pre-releationship moments, but commuincation is not her thing and it ruined the ending for me.
second lead couple lowkey deserved a little more screen time. i enjoyed SML’s entry, he was so cool and then we see him with his SFL and it was peek comedy. the family was amazing on both sides and i enjoyed the siblings dynamic so much - they were really there for each other without any jealously or uncertainty.
so, i’m rating this 7/10 because they had to add one last conflict and make FL and ML’s relationship toxic. without it, they would have been a green field.
I 100% agree with you! They are surely one of my fav couples. What's unique is how intimately comfortable they…
Exactly!! There's also no toxicity or red flags between them. Everything was so effortless and they way they always tried to support each other 😭
When at one point I thought for sure Yu Tu left after that fight without telling her anything, it turned out he texted her and that’s??? He is a mature adult, you know? None of that childish behaviour. All misunderstandings were cleared up quickly.
When I Fly Towards You, while mostly set in high school, is another example that remind me of the couple, especially with the FL chasing the ML at first ☺️
Ming Lan!! Oh, I dropped at at episode 44 🙈 it's a soft drop, so I might go back...
And Destined!! Oh no, I watched and put it on hold for a long time afterwards 💀 its been a year and I never went back 😬 I don't even remember why!
I'm on episode 14 and I cannot connect to any of these characters — even Ding was not able to keep me interested. There's something so unlikable about the FL and after watching Love Game in the Eastern Fantasy, her personality and chemistry with the ML feels so flat and unbalanced. The plotline isn't compelling enough for me to stay either. Dropping this.
I don't usually watch Wuxia (I think this is actually my first!) but I took a risk and its honestly the best decision I made all year. The characters, the storyline, the visuals — everything is perfect. I don't even care about the bracelet scene anymore and that there were no kisses between the leads, it has little impact on the story itself so who cares, I loved every moment of it.
I will say the second couple felt more like what you expect a parents romance to be like. The love was there but the romance was undertoned and not very passionate. I expected more chemistry from the “original” leads of the story.
