Glad to see Zatoichi mentioned on this site. :) It's such a great series. I'm currently watching it. The last one I saw was Fight, Zatoichi, Fight!. One of the weaker ones but still enjoyable. Thanks for recommending Wakadaisho. I'll be sure to check it out. Great article! ^^

They are good. Love Letter was even mention in one k-drama. It's a well-made love melodrama without being too corny or manipulative. All About Lily Chou Chou is one that may be harder to digest; it talks about school bullying in its most rawest way.
If you wanna check out the director, I recommend these two. :)

Cinderella, Ab-normal Beauty and Red Shoes. Red shoes was not bad, the scarier of the three. I'm gonna watch Hansel and Gretel next. :)

It's about friendship, yes. The director is well known but not as much as Miike or Koreeda. Shunji Iwai has more an independent feel and is known for composing the score for his films. I think he is more of a big name in the music industry. Have you heard of the movies Love Letter or All About Lily Chou Chou? They were directed by him.

Oh sorry. I should have caught that. It's from Hana & Alice, directed by Shunji Iwai.

I'm putting dramas on hold for a bit, I'm more invested in movies at the moment. Like watching really bad asian horror.

I intended to watch Ando Lloyd but I took one look at Kimmy's hairstyle and said Nope. I'm the worst. :P And I feel like I've read that synopsis before.

On Golden Empire it's hard to find a likable character, although you understand their actions. You can't rule an empire being nice. But it's weird watching a drama where I don't root for anyone. Interesting too. As for k - romcoms, I also find it hopeless. And as long there's high ratings they are not gonna change. There's always Japan to fall back on. ;)

Golden Empire lacks romance too, at least in the sense of romantic romance, and it's definitely a good thing. I intend to watch The Chaser sometime in the future, having the same writer and less episodes sure makes it look worth a watch. I recommend the Golden Empire, the characters and the dialog are reason enough to watch it. (Y) And it's waaay better than those romantic comedies frolicking about.

I'm liking it so far but I feel it has too many episodes. The characters are well written and the dialogs are amazing but the plot kinda spins around it itself. It's an endless musical chair game. Have you watched Golden Empire?

Now I hate everyone on GE. I'm loving it. Everyone is turning out to be a villain. Even Good Guy Sung Jae is being turned by his mother.

I haven't watched many eps coz I've been busy irl. I'll get on to it this week. And I'm liking it so far, yes.

Tae Joo. Tae Joo. Still dislike him. Probably will until the end. But as another example of greed and how it affects people he's not bad. He's the odd one out, poor all his life, has met hardships in his life coz of it and is the one more relatable to the viewer. The fact that I find him so hateable can tell how good a character he is. Thought-provoking for sure.
