You sound immature. Do you hate Korea? It's a bit arbitrary. And why do you bluntly call him "Yoo", if you respect…
rando netizens online do not accurately represent the attitudes of young Koreans. That is another thing that is so maddening about Korean media constantly quoting netizens as if they are a representative sample. They are a tiny group but very LOUD.
As I said above, younger Koreans are far more socially liberal than their parents and grandparents. One example is the recent "scandal" involving a popular, veteran Korean actor who knocked up a much younger model. She had the kid but they are not marrying and will co-parent. Koreans 60 and older think he should be crucified. Millenials/GenZ don't give a shit.
You sound immature. Do you hate Korea? It's a bit arbitrary. And why do you bluntly call him "Yoo", if you respect…
Most of the movies I love are out of Korea and I have a fondness for the country in general. Sadly however, I have to agree with you for the most part. Korea is appallingly backward in many of its cultural/societal attitudes. That IS going to change though, and pretty quickly as the old generations die off. Those under 50 and especially under 30, are MUCH more Liberal and tolerant than the oldsters who grew up under military dictatorships. What they either don't understand or don't want to admit is that these Puritanical attitudes were first forced on the Korean people by the first and long-lasting military dictatorships. They were nearly as brutal as the commies to the north.
Now, perhaps you jest, but I want to add that Korea has been a stable democracy since the late 1980s. It is only recently that the president declared martial law, and it lasted for all of six hours before parliament members broke into their own building to override the martial law declaration. And many of the soldiers assigned to guard the building stepped aside to allow them in and did nothing to stop them. Many of the guns were unloaded. The military took the side of democracy.
The dude who declared martial law was arrested and jailed a week or so ago, along with several officials who played along with his attempt to seize power.
Korea is much more than a "proxy power" for the U.S. and it is highly economically successful. I won't argue though. The U.S. did a lot wrong over the decades since the Korean War, such as standing by and allowing the military dictatorships to exist and using 300,000 Korean troops in the Vietnam War, but the U.S. is also the only reason South Korea exists at all and is not under the thumb of fatso Kim Jung Il along with the North.
Exactly, if he hasn't harmed anyone then what do I care what he gets up to in his personal time?
While I agree with you one hundred percent, the Propofol is NOT something to mess around with. It is what killed Michael Jackson. But it was prescribed for Yoo by a doctor and administered in a hospital setting, so of course the doctor and hospital were let off with a slap on the wrist but they're crucifying Yoo.
Yoo suffers devastating insomnia, as did MJ. I have had bouts of insomnia and I absolutely understand how complete inability to sleep, which of itself can make you crazy, would drive a person with $$$ resources to go to absurd lengths to try to get some zzzzzzs. But Propofol only keeps you under for 20 minutes to half an hour so its use for insomnia is not only dangerous, it is ineffective.
They better decide to put him in a rehabilitation center for withdrawal therapy rather than in a prison that would…
He is already IN prison awaiting re-sentencing on appeal. I don't know the circumstances of his surroundings but I certainly hope they include treatment.
Thank god, he's way too good to be thrown out of the industry, but at least if he is, they should release his…
He should move to the U.S. and Hollywood. We don't destroy people with drug addiction; we treat them. Yoo is well known here from all his Netflix work and would be in high demand. F**k Puritanical Korea.
So he is getting prosecuted for smoking weed in the USa where it is not illegal.....what?But ok, lets keep the…
Yes, Korea is one of two or three countries in the world who believes it has the right to control your behavior even when you're in another country and subject to its laws. Like most MDL articles, the one above does not make clear that Yoo was not ultimately tried or convicted on the absurd marijuana charges. Korean media likes to mention things that imply other things without giving the reader the full story.
I'm curious as to what actors Korea has "kept" who are convicted pedophiles or perpetrators of sexual abuse. Could you fill me in?
Blessed are the weird people - poets, misfits, writers, mystics, heretics, painters and troubadours- for they…
"I don't expect anyone to see as big a picture as I do - most can't." hahaha
Oh look! A rando egomaniac on the Internet. That's new. An economics whiz! A genius! lol
Trashing Thai BLs is not speaking "so poorly of one of my favorite cultures." It is speaking poorly of one, tiny element of Thai culture. Like most unbalanced cyber know-it-alls, you don't know much.
Blessed are the weird people - poets, misfits, writers, mystics, heretics, painters and troubadours- for they…
Good god. So they're turning out 30 crappy shows a week because they HAVE TO, the producers in Thailand have zero control over what they make or how often they make it.
Blessed are the weird people - poets, misfits, writers, mystics, heretics, painters and troubadours- for they…
I don't owe Thailand anything. I loved and watched many of its BLs until 2020 when they turned to shit for the very clear reason that quantity is now all that matters there.
I don't spend my time fishing around in toilet bowls for pearls that just might, sooner or later, be there. If they are, I'll hear about it and watch then.
Understood. I would say if you really like the Japanese version, it's definitely hard for you to like the Thai…
Ever hear of the Internet, little person claiming to be Thai? I have as much access to demographic information about Thailand on these issues as do you. And the fact that I'm not living in the middle of Thailand with an agenda to push like you, means I'm far more objective on the matter.
Please provide links to the research information on which you base your BS above. Since you don't have any, maybe zip it. What your limited number of Thai friends say doesn't count.
You sound immature. Do you hate Korea? It's a bit arbitrary. And why do you bluntly call him "Yoo", if you respect…
hahahahaha..."immature."
No, I don't "hate Korea," but I'm pretty sure I hate you. You should move to Korea and become a full-time cog in the Korean celebrity suicide machine. They'd welcome you.
Apparently, you're a fan of Korea's insane drug laws, in which case you're delusional and vindictive. If you're really an American from New Jersey you should be ashamed of yourself. America doesn't treat people like Yoo, who are sick, the way Korea does.
His name is Yoo Ah In. If I want to call him by the affectionate nickname "Yoo" as I often do, I don't give a fuck what you think about it.
Who said anything about "cutting ties with Korea," you numbskull? Not releasing a film or two there is far from "cutting ties." And Netflix's world-wide reach is so vast that the tiny # of Korean subscribers who would not get to see the films of celebrities they're trying to drive to suicide is a drop in the bucket. Netflix would likely GAIN world-wide subscribers if it made it clear it will treat Yoo and others in his situation as human beings with an illness, not someone who should spend four years in jail as if he were a vicious criminal.
See all those "likes" on my comment above, loser? It pleases me to know that at least on the topic of Korea's barbaric treatment of Yoo Ah In, far more MDLers agree with me than you, you hateful dunce.
Episode1: This is silly and stupid and potentially lame, but what's making it possibly OK for me is that the leads are young MEN, not pretty little boys. The acting, though they don't have much to work with, is good. Also, it helps that there are no yellow, brown, auburn, or other bad dye jobs in sight.
For some insane reason beyond my comprehension, I was even charmed by the very badly-performed pseudo-kpop idol dance and ensuing silliness during credits. This along with what I wrote above, indicates the key here is the ever-elusive "heart," which almost no Thai BLs that attempt this type of thing, have.
We'll see how this goes...
Episodes 2 & 3: ummm...I think rather than drive him home, he should have considered driving him to a psychiatric facility. The young dentist is the cutest, but the rich kid is a close second. Speaking of which, isn't someone here going to shriek "PEDOPHILIA!?" As for handsomeness, it's the bar owner. That may be the most defined chin/jaw line I have ever seen. How is it possible that out of seven gay male cast members, only one can dance?
Moving on....
Episode 4: Trope-fest fail. Four or five of them and nothing original or funny about their execution. Which is too bad, because otherwise this show is more good than bad to this point.
No idea how this will go...could still be a drop.
I do like the short-term, mini-flashbacks that explain something we recently saw. I've not seen it done quite this way before.
I just will never understand using standard, age-old, boring BL tropes like trip/fall/catch/stare, get wet/get fever/make porridge/take medicine, bandage-a-cut, and all the rest. What is the point of repeating these not just tired, but dead old stand-bys, especially when they are not done as parodies? They're annoying.
Episode 5: This is alternately delightful and boring. It gets tedious for me when every single character is gay already. :D This is the slowest, least-frequented dentist office I have ever seen. No way it could keep going on "two hours til the next appointment." lol I am now in love with Mr. Chi. As an American, I find it delightful when characters slip in an english word of phrase here and there with what sounds to my ear like standard, Middle-American English with no Asian accent. lol When the Koreans or Japanese do it the accents are thick. Hong Kongers slip in English in much the same way but with an accent. Linguistics is fun! :D
Episode 6: Wow. Each new one really is hotter than the last one. :) The whole setting the guy you're in love with up with women thing is kind of not working for me. This is showing a lot of mid vibe right now. It feels like a better-than-average, better-acted Thai BL with a bigger budget for extras, except in the office which is more like a museum. Why do lower-budget BLs so often way OVER-light their sets?
Episode 7: I've begun skipping ahead. Too slow. Way too much invented drama based on absurd misunderstandings. Someone says to you "and what if I've found the one already?" with his lips a quarter-inch from yours and you think he's talking about someone else? Please. Disappointing.
Episodes 8 & 9: Improvement! Ep 9's smooching made everything that came before, even the lame stuff, worth it.
Episodes 10-12: Meh. It's OK, not terrible, not great. See above comment for a little more. 7.5/10
MDL is weird though. 7.9 is a relatively high rating here. I don't think I've ever seen a show hit 9/10. Have…
Even though to me, based on the synopsis, it sounds like a silly Thai BL, and I can't stand 99% of Thai BLs past 2020, I'm about to give it a try based on a recommendation.
It seems like MDL ratings stay between 6.5 and 8.5 and people get worked up about 1/10 of a point's difference one way or the other. lol To me, 7.9 is a solid B rating which is a good thing.
On the other hand, MDL ratings also tend to over or under rate in my estimation so I generally pay little attention.
I was going to watch this but, I wish commenters would not give parts of the plot away without spoiler alerts…
MDLers are bad about that. Very annoying and at times enraging. There are some who clearly enjoy posting spoilers and then pretending they don't know why others are pissed off about it.
Yes, it made no sense to leave all the drama just for the last episode, and I don't get it...was beating the crap…
Why do you see it as being shown to be "normal behavior?" Just because someone does something fucked up in a drama doesn't mean it's normal or being promoted.

Do some research.
