F**********************************************k...best thing out of Thailand since ITSAY/IPYTM, and I stopped halfway through the first episode to post this comment. I am blown away already.
I had read the synopsis weeks ago and skipped it as it sounded like some queenie thing out of the Philippines. Why didn't someone SAY this is by the director of ITSAY/IPYTM, the #3 and #4 BLs on my best BLs list? lol I would have been here for the first ep. Although actually, I'm glad I wasn't, as I get to binge the first five eps now. :D
This New actor is a freaking STAR. From the moment he gave that girl the side-eye when she closed out two DMs within the first two minutes of the show, which caused me to LOL like a hyena, I knew this was no ordinary actor, BL or otherwise. Everything I've seen from him in the ensuing 25 minutes has lived up to that impression. What a fucking find!! When he cried/stopped/cried/stopped afterward at the mall and then next he was on the sticker-covered toilet, I'm dying...I have a thing for lanky/skinny guys like him anyway. When he finishes growing up and filling out...wow, please come to Hollywood, kid. :D
This director is the absolute bomb. EVERY character I've encountered in half an hour feels like a real person...the natural/real vibe is stunning. The cinematography/blocking/music/holy shit, this is good. It's no surprise he also did the Jeff Satur film vehicle Paradise of Thorns, the first good Thai film in years.
Just fuck...I'm beyond happy to look forward to watching and re-watching this show and I know I'm blubbering after half an hour, but I've ragged on so many bad Thai BLs over the last four years that I feel the need to give credit where due. :D
"God help us, another TOOTW (Turd Out Of TaiWan). At this rate, that island paradise will soon catch up with the…
Hey Lyson, I just started Gelboys and after 2:05 minutes had to come back and tell you I already got more laughs and charm out of it than the last 15 Thai shows I've tried. lol
That multi-screen online classroom, the hilarious teacher and the "phlegm" explanation, the guy and girl "frouple"....such GREAT, subtle acting. When those DMs to her came in and she closed them, the look on HER face and then on HIS face...omg, I laughed out loud. hahaha...I am already crushing on that young man. The sour side-eye he gave her, that's when I laughed.
Then we went into the theme song...it all seems several levels above normal Thai drek after two minutes. I'm pushing my expectations back down, but what a great start.
Truth is, I had read the synopsis to this show and decided to not even give it a look. It sounded like the sort of "everyone is a stereotypical queen"-type show that drives me nuts out of the Philippines. And I'm a sucker for straight-but-gay-curious plot lines.
Probably most people don't mind, not all dyed hair is supposed to look natural
I agree with that, though it seems odd that a no-nonsense, hard-ass, business negotiator would be dyeing his hair white/silver like some kpop idol. That aside, LJH's white/silver bob is quite obviously a WIG. How many hard-ass, business negotiators wear silver-white WIGS to work? Perhaps his character does drag and forgot to take it off after a particularly rough night...?
As for the older actor in his role, it is a shoe-polish streak-job AND a wig. lol Make that make sense. :)
Sure they do, Pinky. Look, I get that you're the director's mom, but those fake tresses are amateur hour. Tell your son to fire the head of the makeup team. The older actor's hair looks as if it was done with white shoe polish, like we used to use when I was in high school plays.
Tell your son hello for me, and I'm sorry about the hair.

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I appreciate it and will give Gelboys a look. ALL of the early BLs I first discovered and fell in love with were Thai, as in the two seasons of Love Sick, Together With You, Make It Right, Tharntype, etc. But yeah, as time went on the magic was lost. Midnight Chicken was the last one I actually enjoyed and watched all the way through.
As you said, this is what "dropped" is for. :D Thanks again.
It gets way way better afterwards, you stopped way too early. You'll be immersed in the story and you'll completely…
No, I won't. I've been down that format road before.
Is it explained how a guy on the swim team cannot swim? Did he forget how after being hit by a car at a street crossing, during which he stopped, put his arms up, waited for the car to hit him, and it turned out his parents were in the car and were both killed, leaving him an orphan? Does it turn out the two flirting at the beginning are stepbrothers?
Please let me know if they turn out to be REAL brothers after starting a fling because at least that would be interesting.
Also, any show that takes seven out of 40 episodes to get going is lame.
Can someone explain what's up with the obvious, cheap-looking, gray/white wigs and/or dye jobs of late? If I were to watch either of the shows above, I would find them extremely distracting.
I admire LJH and the other actor above. I feel bad for them that they have to wear such ridiculous head gear.
From the article above, and many more on the web: Promotional materials, including posters, have omitted Yoo Ah In's presence while emphasizing Lee Byung Hun. Director Kim explained,
"The trailer is exposed to an unspecified large audience, but I thought re-editing the film would disrupt the story's coherence, considering its narrative structure and planning intent."
Dear God. Do a little research about the story told in the film. Without Yoo's character throughout, there IS no story. His is a lead role, not that of some minor supporting character. lol
Excellent. The only decision that makes sense. This is a good sign that deranged, sadistic Netizens are losing their hold on Korean culture. Courageous move by the director.
HE RAPED WOMEN AND FILMED THEM WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DONT CARE??? THERES LITERALLZ A SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL RESERVED…
OK, lol, first of all, the all-caps: Lay off them. Your screeching only makes you look hysterical.
Second of all, you are a typical netizen-type and willfully stupid person. Seungri was never charged with, let alone convicted of, rape or sexual assault of any kind; nor was he accused or convicted of filming such acts. Those crimes were committed by other people, some of whom were caught and tried and some of whom were not.
Seungri was convicted of prostitution mediation, which he denied; lame embezzlement charges, which he denied; and "habitual" gambling while overseas (complete BS. SK is the only first-world country that holds its citizens to its own laws while in other countries). Just to be clear, do you understand what "prostitutes" are? I'll fill you in: They are women who CHOOSE to sell the use of their body parts for sexual pleasure in return for money or other valuables. No one forced anyone. Seungri denied arranging for prostitutes anyway, not that you care because it doesn't fit your narrative that he's a rapist and all-round bad person.
During his endless trial, several witnesses testified that police and prosecutors had strong-armed them into making inaccurate accusations, prodded them with leading questions designed to implicate Seungri, and other abuses of police power. Two of the witnesses whom Seungri was accused of arranging to have beaten up said they never felt threatened and had no idea why Seungri's name had even come up. lol
The cops and prosecutors were clearly out to nail Seungri with crimes he didn't commit, for purposes of publicity and career advancement. Korean cops love to do that; it's one reason why so many Korean celebrities kill themselves. Ever heard the name Lee Sun Kyun?

Dropping at 14 minutes. Not that there is anything wrong with what I saw, but as soon as he snapped back in the plane I knew this was not it for me.
Enjoy, those of you who like this sort of thing.
If to you, "I look forward to your apology." is ruder than "WTFFF PLS GROW A BRAIN AND DONT DEFEND MISOGYNST PIECE OF SHITS," you might be a moron.
MYOB, busy-body.

Go Yoo! We're with you, babe.
Dropping halfway.
Daniel Wu is pretty to look at though.

Do some research and educate yourself before leaving such moronic comments. They only show you for the nincompoop you are.
I look forward to your apology.
