I find myself quite intrigued by this drama. Don't get me wrong, I abhor the whole rabbit caught in the headlights…
hmmm...a rare point of disagreement, JJ. I find the plot boring and predictable, the actors lame and untalented, and the thing as a whole lethargic and gray. Dropping out today.
It's a no for me. Niihara hasn't changed his face in 2 episodes & quite a bit of emotion should be shown on it…
Precisely. I just got halfway through the second episode and thought "why am I forcing myself to watch this bore-fest when there's nothing worth my time going on?"
Also, I find it insulting and lame to watch all these people pretend that the washed-out, scrawny blond guy is hot when, ummm...he's not. The dark haired half of the MC is just dull.
This could potentially be an interesting, sexy story if it were rewritten, directed and cast with actors who possess some charisma. But oh well...that didn't happen.
Nice comment. I'm with you all the way.As for MDL ratings, they used to drive me nuts too, until one day I did…
Glad to be of help! Also glad to be your first friend request. What an honor! :D
When in the mood, it can be entertaining to simply keep pelting the ASJWPCLGs with questions as to WHY they feel the way they do. Eventually, their heads explode.
They're vicious people, if you dare to disagree with them. lol I've been denounced as a serial "cheater" more times than I can count, as well as a "pedophile" and "pervert," along with many other fun names. These lame-brains believe that if you enjoy the portrayal of a negative character who does bad things as part of a live-action story, then you must BE that type of person and do those things in real life.
Which makes millions of people murderers, as murder mysteries are probably the most popular film genre ever.
"or high-fives where there should be f**king"That's a bold statement under a series that had one of the most disappointing…
"That's a bold statement under a series that had one of the most disappointing kisses I can think of. "
Agreed. Which is why I added at the end of my comment above: "9/10 (There are two unfortunate dead-fish kisses. Minus 1/2 point for each.)"
Agree with everything else your wrote about the kisses too, which is why I wrote in response to another commenter below: "I just finished watching this. I'm going to rate it 9/10, primarily for its uniqueness of style and mood, as well as the good acting. The only glaring deficiency is those kisses, and for that I blame the director. He needed to push the actors the extra 20% that was needed or to cut the kisses out.
Dead-fish kisses are the WORST. Not only because they are reflective of an immature and downright goofy attitude toward kissing in live-action drama, but they KILL whatever led up to them, no matter how well done.
The scene leading up to the first smooch was well-acted, then the dead-fish kiss blew it all to hell. ugh."
I think you underestimate the Korean public on this, the general Korean public definitely has a very negative…
It's incredibly telling that you completely ignored the alcohol/"drugs" issue. You ignored it because you have no rational explanation for it.
"Whataboutism," my ass. WHY is booze OK but pot is not? Why? It's a very simple question. Answer it?
Why would I be angry at Yoo Ah In? Why should he be "blamed," and punished, for having an illness, IF he has one, that has nothing whatsoever to do with his profession or his ability to complete his obligations in regard to "Goodbye Earth" and Netflix? Why should he refrain from pot smoking while in the United States, where no one gives a shit, and yet be charged for same in Korea?
Tell me, do you blame Lee Sun Kyun for being dead? After all, he went to a bar where he met a horrible person who blackmailed and spread horrible lies about him, isn't that right? I'm guessing in your world that makes it all LSK's fault? He deserves to be dead, right?
You are exactly what is wrong with Korea's Psycho Celebrity Suicide Machine culture. Be very proud of the role you play in that. Are you Korean or do you just play one on MDL?
ADVISORY: If you are a fan of most Thai or Pinoy BLs, this show is not for you. If you think "Bad Buddy" is a masterpiece, and that "The Untamed" is a romance, this show is not for you. If "Secret Crush On You" or "2gether" ring your bell, please go away. This show is not for you.
You will not understand it. It will fly over your head. You will be confounded and confused. Please spare yourself the suffering and leave now.
Thanks.
For those of you who appreciate deliberate, focused story telling, with excellent direction and acting, and a complete absence of product placements or high-fives where there should be f**king, please do watch and enjoy "Gray Shelter."
9/10 (There are two unfortunate dead-fish kisses. Minus 1/2 point for each.)

Rating of this drama shows again, that we can't appreciate good things. small company with low budget managed…

As for MDL ratings, they used to drive me nuts too, until one day I did some research and discovered that 25% of the MDL membership consists of American SJW/PC Little Girls and that explains everything. These people, even if they're 35 years old, are still the ASJWPCLGs I mentioned above. They believe they have a right to only encounter situations and behaviors on screen that they would like to see surrounding them IRL. They have no empathy, no compassion, and zero comprehension of the fact that many, maybe most, people are significantly damaged by early life traumas that haunt them and drive their actions until and unless they somehow come to terms with their experiences. If not, they are doomed to repeat what was done to them.
The saddest, and most annoying thing is that these ASJWPCLGs think of themselves as caring, compassionate people. They are not. They are play-acting for their own appreciation. They suck.
I get so say all this because I am an American as well, but the opposite of what I describe above. So, this is a long-winded way of saying I learned to ignore MDL ratings because they are directly opposite to what they should be. At MDL, good quality = low ratings and vice versa.
I use MDL mainly as a resource to know about new and old shows I have not seen, for info about production, actors, and directors, and to make up my own custom lists, as well as to keep track of what I've seen and how I rated it. "Gray Shelter" is going to get a very high score from me, but I have no fantasy that my score will lift the MDL one, so I don't stress about it. However, on occasion I DO give a good show a higher score than I otherwise might, just to do my little bit. :D And I frequently hand out 1/10s to trash shows that get 9/10 ratings here, purely for my own satisfaction.
Wow, who expected THAT when Soo Hyuk took off his shirt? Holy god. I live for the melancholic, depressive vibe of the opening credits animation. This show is building beautifully, and has that Strongberry vibe which reaches my gut but which I don't have words for.
Am I supposed to be buying that rather frumpy woman who apparently kicked Yae Doon out of her apartment, as his GIRL FRIEND? No...just no. His auntie, his older sister maybe, but his...GF? No.
what about men cheating? why come for only women straight away? the ML physically and emotionally cheats and if…
You specifically said this drama "justifies or glorifies" women's cheating....never mind, it's clear you have no idea what you're talking about and your hilariously bad ESL is not helping.
Enjoy!

Dropping. 1/10

I comprehended the plot quite readily.
The editing was great. I liked that it kept me on my toes without needlessly confusing things.
What didn't you understand? Perhaps I can help.
