Well, I'd argue that even a depressed, miserable person shows their thought processes taking place, even if just in their eyes. As to your assertion about her "expressive" eyes, I found them dull and expression-LESS. Guess we'll just have to disagree.
I will say that her performance in the last two episodes was quite good. Her speech to the board of directors about LSK, and the scene in which she went to identify Grandma's body, wrecked me.

I deliberately did not insult anyone else for enjoying and watching this show and others like the ones you mentioned. I am not capable of turning off my brain, even when watching something "just for pure entertainment."
No one watches anything with their brains turned off. That assertion, a common one here on MDL, is silly. You are ALWAYS using your brain to process what you're watching; otherwise how would you be "entertained?" I love well-made comedies and slapstick and goofiness. Deep Night is not those things. There are a gazillion well-made films of that type on the Internet that do not insult my intelligence or cause my eyeballs to roll out of their sockets. With all those options out there, why would I waste my time on something like this?
Also, the more depth of understanding we get regarding each character, the more entertaining it is to see those characters interact as the series progresses. Thai BLs such as this one deal with TYPES, not individual characters, and it's lame.
The beginning of this show, with the BMOC strutting across campus as all the dumb girls squeal with wild abandon at his supposed physical perfection and glittering charisma, is something I've seen dozens of times before in earlier, much better Thai BLs.
The people who write and produce this kind of schlock, shamelessly regurgitating plots and people as though we have no memory of what we've seen before, are lazy, uninterested, and devoid of original thoughts. I don't support shows made by such hacks. Why would anyone?
There are hundreds of thousands of great, light-hearted, well-made movies and dramas on the Internet. I'm not so desperate to see gay men in BL situations that I'd lower myself to the level of Deep Night to get a fix. I prefer to wait for the few, much better quality, BLs out of Taiwan, Japan, and Korea, that are worth my time.
However, as I said, please do watch and enjoy this show. I won't try to stop you. :)

Dropping 2/3 through the first episode because this Engineering Faculty/Host Club/Cirque du Soleil mish-mash abortion is not for me.
Just today, I finished watching the nearly-flawless, 10/10 Taiwanese BL "Unknown." It is an abomination that it and this cringe-fest will forever be categorized as of the same genre. It's like labeling double-chocolate silk ice cream and a bowl of s**t both as "brown stuff."
The amount of $$$ that goes into making these high-end, god-awful Thai BLs is depressing. It's shocking to think this stuff comes out of the same country that once made series like ITSAY/IPYTM, Love Sick, Make It Right, Together With Me and the like. The latter three had much smaller budgets, but schlock-free stories and great big hearts.
Given Yuki's lack of presence, nervousness, and bland affect in that audition, there is no way in hell he would have been cast as a walk-by extra in a high school play, let alone a co-lead in a major BL drama production. Give me a break.
Meanwhile, the big star of the BL looks to be at death's door by starvation, with the limp, oily, blah-blond hair that many Japanese seem to think is attractive.
Teetering on the edge of a drop, but willing to give it at least one more episode as I pray for some Japanese weirdness to liven things up.
First of all, FF is a talented actor, with charisma, screen presence, and beauty.
Second of all, this film is absolutely terrible. I watched to the end just so I could continue to enjoy looking at Fandy, but I broke down and began skipping ahead toward the end, even so. If there is a coherent, overarching, connected storyline of some interest here, I don't know what it is. If the same actors hadn't kept showing up again and again, I doubt I'd have known most of the scenes were connected. A rando sense of disconnectedness is my main take. Perhaps that was intentional in some artsy-fartsy way, but if so I still don't care.
FF is tragically underrated and underused. I hate to see what should be his most productive years passing by with nothing much coming of them. He should learn Korean and head over there where they're making great films and he'd fit right in.
His best work remains the 2018 BL, History 2: Crossing the Line.
If all you want is to look at FF, watch this. If not, skip it.
My goodness. I sniffled through all three final episodes.
Top-notch BL drama-making; the kind of show that proves the genre does NOT require one to settle for fourth or fifth-rate standards of production in any category.
Superb: Acting Direction Lighting/cinematography Sets/set dressing Music Did I mention ACTING? I was deeply moved or made to laugh over and over by the UNDER-acting of the ensemble. No overly dramatic histrionics or shouting to make up for lack of talent; everything so understated and lovely.
The BLs that have moved me most deeply have one thing above all else in common: Moments in which the primary characters are together, perhaps saying nothing or very little, and yet I well up in tears simply because I am filled to overflowing with FEELS which have been created by all the hundreds of perfect moments depicted prior to that point in the show. That happened a good 20 times during this series.
Such is this series' perfection that I forgive the Tiger/Lamb/Top/Bottom silliness near the end. Partly because it seems clear to me that this couple does not hold to such lame categorizations. Let the topping AND the bottoming be as fluid as their love.
My love for this series derives in part from its courage in confronting the main issue concerning the MC and knocking it aside. Well-done.

However, in my judgment, her acting in MM episodes 1 through 14 is the OPPOSITE of your description of what she did in Scarlet Heart. Perhaps if the director HAD put a carrot up her arse, it would have helped. She looked as if she were on heavy doses of Methadone, AND bored.
That is, until episode 15, when she seemed to emerge from her coma. The scenes in which she gave her speech about LSK to the board of executives, and again when she went with LSK to identify Grandma's corpse, moved me to tears.
I get she was trying to portray someone who has completely emotionally shut down. However, even depressed/shut down people THINK. I never saw her gears turning as she responded to events or planned something or reacted in a split second before remembering to shut down. She was a BLANK until episode 14.
So the first thing a rookie actor needs to star in a BL drama... is to go look for someone to rape them?!! WTF…

Unattractive, anorexic prostitutes are unlikely to make a living working the "street." She's also utterly charm-less, so all these men falling for her is absurd. Apparently, the oldest brother is unconcerned about STDs. His new GF has them crawling all over her.
I watched about 1/3 of the film before I started skipping ahead, looking for nude scenes of the bros, but there weren't enough of those. The attempts at artsiness only made things worse.
Based on the synopsis and the "sweet, cute, homey, comfortable, relaxing etc." comments below, this sounds like a dropper. In my world if you put all those words together, they spell BORING.
In such cases, I wait until the show has aired in its entirety to check it out. So...see ya in six weeks!
