i didnt like the first movie but imo this was a big improvement

the first movie wasnt very enjoyable for me at all so this one was a pleasant surprise

- to start, the overall atmosphere feels much more fitting. maybe its because it started at night, maybe its because the first body was dropped from the roof rather than on a screen, im not sure but i know from the start i just felt the vibe registered better. to me, the horror vibe felt slightly faker when the game begun in the first movie

- the side characters were more noticeable here than in the first movie. before it felt like they were all virtually nonexistent and did nothing but fill extra space. besides the mean (?) girl, most were difficult to differentiate from one another due to how little their characters were built up or given personality. these side characters are much more distinguishable and to the point where i thought wed get more content focused on them

- the mystery surrounding the mastermind is also better done in this movie. the teacher in the last one served as a quick plot twist and not much more but this one really adds to the suspense. involving multiple people in the crime rather than just one person was a good idea because there are people who can be built up and also disposed of to add to the suspense and make the deaths feel notable while still allowing us to steadily uncover the truth

- i enjoyed the tasks more too even though there werent as many. they felt more put together and relevant like sifting through the evidence and killing the girl who killed tae yeon. it felt so stupid when the kids would die anyway even if they got the question right in the first movie but this time it feels more fitting since this is revenge against those who were responsible for tae yeons death. the tasks were more about exposing the perpetrators to the class judging by the mean girls death

- i also love how unlike the first movie, the deaths didnt feel gory just for the sake of it. JK dies from his own motorcycle, ji yun gets killed by the class, hyeon a is poisoned by her own pills, all the dying students being complicit in the crime so the brutality also served to punish the students for their actions. meanwhile the candle dude and the other students deaths in the first movie were so unbelievably brutal (even more than the actual killers) for virtually no reason.

- i liked the plot twist about the main characters decision too. it was wrong of her but i cant say i dont understand where she was coming from and it puts her words from earlier in the movie into perspective

- overall, this movie made the deaths and overall situation feel more purposeful and the characters were better utilized too. so were the relationships imo. i definitely enjoyed it

definitely the best season

i thought the message was well delivered and i loved the last interaction between the old man and gihun. all the characters served their purpose well whether it was to be hated or loved. the antagonists were enjoyable and complex and the main character was flawed yet lovable at the same time. the games were compelling and i enjoyed the character interactions too. the deaths were as impactful as they shouldve been and i didnt feel like any character was wasted

not very good

i recently realized i loved killer game plots so i decided to try this one. i had high expectations but it was pretty disappointing. the students outside of the main group of 5 barely existed. the reason behind the games was pretty predictable which i wouldnt have minded if the games themselves as well as the character interactions and dynamics were interesting but they werent. the switches in perspective after the groups split up were hard to follow and i was lamenting about stupidity too much to enjoy the movie
- why did the guy friend feel the need to turn 180 degrees just to yell at the girl to run when he couldve taken advantage of the fact he pushed a crazy killer on his ass and restrain him or something?
- the groups constantly splitting up when theyre literally being kidnapped one by one (where is the logic there?)
- answering the questions achieves nothing because the students are killed afterwards anyway even if you get the answer right. the best friend dying anyway was so stupid and i kept getting confused about whether the answers were correct because the kids were dying regardless. its very boring watching a killer game when the hosts are constantly breaking the rules
- not sure if this counts since the teacher was the killer but him killing the crazy kid pissed me off because he literally didnt know if it was him (he didnt seem composed enough to set all this up anyway) and he was already unconscious. they couldve at least tried tying him up and getting some answers or something
- no one wanting to answer the 3rd (?) question and the teachers just letting them stay back as if their classmates arent literally dying and its better to at least have more minds working on the problem
- the parents reasoning made no sense to me. itd make more sense if they wanted to punish the kids for whatever reason
- what the hell was going on with that crazy kid who kept trying to kill the main girl? he saw the teacher murder jiwon but was that supposed to be what made him totally crazy? he acted possessed. theres no way thats supposed to be from witnessing a murder.
- the truth was rooted in reality so im confused about some of the scenes that seemed to be driven by supernatural forces like the hallucinations, ghost looking girl spawning and despawning instantly, people being kidnapped in such a weird manner
- the deaths were super brutal which could be considered good since its horror. i like when brutal deaths elevate the sense of suspense and dread (like in jigsaw) but since the games were boring and the rules were being broken, it fell flat.
- some scenes were strange…like did we really need to see the main girls underwear as she bled through on her period (which had no plot relevance) or her best friends underwear (surely the uniform couldve had build in shorts no?) but whatever

really entertaining imo

i used to be obsessed with roblox games like flicker and i still love those types of layouts so i absolutely lovedd this show. i enjoyed guessing who the murderers were, who would die next, and how as well as how creative and morbid the game controlled eliminations were. i was frustrated with the characters pretty often but honestly i didnt mind because it made it way more engaging and most of their behavior was somewhat understandable. the confrontations interested me because its such a complicated situation since killing people is obviously wrong but they dont exactly have a choice yet i can understand why their classmates are angry. im not usually into shows enough to get so frustrated so i had fun.

i liked the main character and her personal relationships with her friends. wish we got more of her and se eun though (which brings me to my next point). unfortunately the ending was really rushed. i think the show wouldve benefited from an extra episode featuring the class before the games, leading up to the first one.

im not really good at rating acting so thats kinda randomized but i found it good. ive personally rewatched this show a couple times. i find it entertaining to study the characters the second time around, knowing who is and isnt citizen. its also a lot to take in the first time so rewatching it gives me the chance to appreciate the smaller characters and relationships. its short so it doesnt take much time to rewatch.

im surprised this is the only show like this that i could find considering it seems like a pretty basic concept but i was disappointed to learn that all the other “similar recommendations” dont have the aspects that made this show so entertaining so its pretty unique.
