I agree with you and I come from a culture where arranged marriage is rampant. It mostly results in furthering patriarchy and women getting murdered for dowry and what not. The reality of arranged marriage is very harsh, but unfortunately people are conditioned to accept it since it is society's preference. I myself prefer to boycott it as in my country (I'm from India), marital rape is still legal. So it's not like individuals are even safe getting married. Heck you can sue your rapist if you're single or unmarried, but sign that one damn sheet and suddenly you're trapped.
The kids in this story were of course very young, but in dramas, these things are played off as romantic. Same way sexual assault is played off as something good among other toxic things. Kuea and Diao are facing massive misunderstandings at the moment, but Diao's situation worries me more since his Hia is a too controlling. But of course the couple's will soon resolve their issues and become all lovey dovey.
This is common in BLs where there is always a 'top' or 'bottom' and the 'bottom' is generally given feminine traits and considered 'fragile' and in need of protection. The very concept is so far away from the lgbtq+ community and inherently sexist. But Cutie Pie has at least tried to walk away from some of these outdated notions by addressing trans rights and making Kuae more independent. Yes, he is surrounded by people who want to control him, but he has built a whole different persona for himself. I love that. I just hope he doesn't lose his independence by 'submitting' to his Hia and that he also helps Diao gain more courage. BUT that doesn't mean that I hate Hia Lian or Hia Yi. They have communication problems and all four need to talk to each other without one trying to become too overbearing or controlling. Relationships are about partnerships and not 'top' or 'bottom' as bls like to show (and honestly in many gay relationships, couples switch (heck even among hetero relationships, the sexual dynamic is not always the same, if you catch my meaning). But since bls are still stuck in the 'husband and wife' hetero mentality, they project it onto gay/bi people and are unable to represent their relationships accurately. I absolutely adored this pair and how sweet their friendship was. The mental trauma that RSY suffered at such a young age due to his father and his so called friend was horrible and we cannot even begin to dissect it. The fact that among all this his mind found a way to protect itself, that it made the beautiful, strong and honest K come into existence and protect him.. and that K came back even after years and years to first protect RSY from his own corruption and then to be RSY's 'hero'.... well it's just heartwarming and definitely the reason I cried so much when K was leaving. Their pairing is on a totally different level.
Gonna miss thee guys so much. Fantastic job by the actors and a special mention for our Gang leader lady. She was a horrible person, but watching her lose Andrei broke my heart. Glad she got her revenge!
