Title Immortality Spoiler
Honestly I don’t think it would work. Unlike Mo Ran, Chu Wanning had a fairly happy and stable childhood and…
The last thing Chu Wanning had was a hapoy and stable childhood. He was kept isolated and desperately wanted a parental figure. When he tried to find that in his shizun, he was coldly rejected. When he finally wanted to leave, he was made to gouge at his own heart.

But the thing is, these things culminated in self hatred and self esteem issues for him. His hatred was all focussed within. So yeah the flower might have worked differently on him, but it could have neen the outlet that he needed to go full dark side.

But then again knowing his heavenly nature, who knows? Ive read a fantastic fanfiction in which its wanning who gets the flower and it's so dark!

It's not hate it's more like annoyance. In the beginning she was this badass police officer but recent episodes…
"I hate this female character" vs. "I hate how the writers are writing this female character" You have put it perfectly! The writes are not giving the character any time to shine or maybe the producers, director, editors are cutting off her scenes. Who knows? But a character needs time to be portrayed and to be understood, Here she barely has any scenes and it feels like they get cut off the minute they start and always revolve around the males. Sigh.. but no no most viewers just want to hate females without questioning what's actually happening.

I am so frustrated with the Soohyun hate lol If the writer could have written her character actually based on…
Same here! I ADORE Yohan and Gaon, but Kdramas always fall into the ignoring females stereotype and it's frustrating as hell! Women are given hardly any time to shine and the audience, instead of understanding thatm just starts to blindly hate. Ugh!

why is everyone hating soohyun :(( i feel bad for genuinely liking her now
Don't worry. Most just jump onto the 'hate the female lead' bandwagon. Just enjoy whatever character you like and ignore the others.

sigh.. this happens in most dramas. And then people will start to hate on the female leads, but never observe that they are not given any time to shine. They mostly revolve around men. We really need more female centric shows.

Very true. Being aware of politics gives you a different undestanding. For ex. if you look at the character of the president, you note a lot of similarities with Trump. The xenophobia, instigating the masses, sexism etc.

people are idiots. lol sorry but most people just jump on the hatred bandwagon without assessing a show with a clear head. That's why it's important to look at reviews objectively and not blindly believe in them.

This show's commentary on society and the human nature is fantastic and accurate as hell. The way they have captured and protrayed greed and insanity.. my god if you actually put in the effort to understand it, your mind will be blown.

As for Jinyoung's acting. That scene was heart wrenching BECAUSE of his sobs and something many could relate to. This is a character who has been suppressing A LOT for a long time and letting it all out.. whew. It was very well emoted and actually Jinyoung is a fantastic actor who has so much scope and acting range. I'm actually looking for him to get a role as a villain (evil and unhinged) because he seems like he would carry it off really well. I've seen him be evil only in Dream Knight (which was not very well shot, but I loved the storyline. If it had the budget and all.. the fantasy stuff could have been made into something amazing)

Finished this show and I'm a depressed mess right now. Plus I can't stop listening to 'Who is the Monster' and it's killing me ugh! I keep remembering certain characters who suffered so much and it's messing me up. Anyone else crying?

The Queerbaiting is strong in this one. Like heart stopping strong. The chemistry between Kang Yo Han and Kim Ga On is searing hot! Very very well acted out by Ji Sung and Jinyoung! I'm amazed by the intensity. Add all the fluffy domesticity, childcare and the genuine moments.. damn the writers know how to hook us!

While we anxiously wait for Immortality, I have a general question about the BL/Danmei genre purely out of curiosity.…
1 word: Equality
The main characters are actually equal and the power balance is actualky balanced well. Something girla donr get to see in heteroaexual dramas, but soemthing that every girl secretly craves for. To have society and her partner treat her as an equal amd to not be objectified or turned into a plot to further the man.

Great job on the article!

But I must say that The Untamed is so much more than just a boyband effect. Sorry, but saying that and fangirls going gaga over them is an insult to the amazing and unique story, the beautiful characters; Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan, the messages that it sends and the superb acting of the cast!

The Untamed is not called a masterpiece because it has hot guys in it. It is a masterpiece because of the love, the waiting, the pining, but most of all the selflessness of Wei Wuxian who leaves everyone to protect the Wens. And because he does so, he and Lan Zhan get their beautiful son A-Yuan.

And let's not forget the other heartbreaking but ultimately beautiful stories like the Yi City Arc that have left us all shattered inside.

This story was different. A beautiful cast can ultimately never guarantee success, and that has been the case for so many dramas. But not The Untamed.

Does anyone get the feeling that the hospital director is the murderer of ST and KT's mother? Just the way they showed his interactions with ST in the previous episodes made me feel suspicious.. Though their interaction in this episode was so adorable that I'm confused now..

I agree i hated bls before just because of this reason tbh
Ahhh I can understand. But hate the society's mentality not the genre. Real and healthy relationships whether gay or not will never have this kind of toxicity in them.

LOL And one of the most popular BL dramas got 8.8 on mydramalsit with a rapey kind of story…
sigh. I know my friend. I've seen the ratings of many stories where rape plays a forefront role between the main leads and it's horrifying!

Hmmmmmm. I can think of many - MANY - "BL" stories, i.e. m/m romances, in which there is no rape or coercion at…
Thing is rape culture is very prevalent even today. Normalising it is so common in media (especially in Asia! Thailand, China, India etc.) whether for heterosexual romances or homosexual and that is extremely disturbing!

The Untamed is simply a masterpiece and the relationship between the two men is that of equals. I mean there are points wherein Lan Zhan disagrees with Wei Wuxian's decisions and wants to bring him to his home, but he NEVER forces these decisions. Respect is far more improtant than Love and it seems to be lacking in many BL genres :(

I simply CANNOT enjoy a show where people are being coerced into so called intimacy and I hate it when the excuse for force is that 'oh the character is homophobic' etc. Really why would they ever use rape as a plot device is beyond my comprehension!

Thai dramas (I shall not name names) even today, in this year itself, have so many shows in which the guy is forcibly holding down the other guy, or one guy is constantly looking troubled while getting kissed and all this is supposed to be accepted as 'he secretly likes it'! EW! It makes my heart race in a very bad way and triggers me and I have had to drop so many dramas because of this in both the hetero and homosexual genres.

I do agree that rape and assault is more common in hetero genres simply because more of those exist as compared to the BL genre. Sigh we all can only hope that writers and producers get over this sick mentality that rape is romance. IT IS NOT!
On Where Your Eyes Linger Jun 13, 2020
The MOST important thing about this show though... it did not disguise assault or full on rape as romance, which is a MAJOR problem in many BLs. There was no forced stuff in here and believe it or not.. that is a very rare thing in BLs!
Seriously, rapey stuff is such a turn off and I simply cannot go on pretending that it's alright but here.. ahhhh this show made me happy! Keep it up!

Shoutout for SEASON 2!
