My take on the ending is after Ma Zhai Xing's death, Chu You Wen brought her back to the mountains and buried…
The ending has a "6-months-later" so I also think the wolf lived out those months and passed later due to poisoning. If the wolf died right after Zhai Xing's death then there won't be a specific 6-month time period for the epilogue. It can be a month later or a year later. Also the 4th Prince said no one ever saw them again, but that doesn't mean the wolf is dead, it's just that no one dares to go up to the wolf mountains so they don't know if he's dead yet. Also Zhai Xing said she wishes the wolf to continue to live his entire life out and that's 6 months. At the end there is a scene where he is surrounded by butterflies and Zhai Xing represents those butterflies so that means he is alone with their memories. And the last scene of them playing on the tree log is after his death when his no longer alone and finally reunion with her in the afterlife.
Whenever Cheng Yi and Zhao Wen Hao (9th prince and 10th prince) are in the same scene, you can notice that there is an acting gap between them and it's huge. Wen Hao's acting is too immature and has no control over his face/expressions. He's acting is very exaggerated and look awkward/out of place. While on the other hand, Cheng Yi knows when to hold in his emotions and when to let it out. It's so interesting to watch Cheng Yi act. I watched L&R, NA1/2, & TLT2 and loved them all. I can't wait for his new works!!!
